Dear Bud Selig, Commissioner of Major League Baseball.

Where do I begin…
Lets start by saying I am a Yankee fan. Beyond that and to a much larger degree… I am a Baseball fan. It’s the sport I was brought up playing and I love the sport on all levels.

You made comments about the recent report of Alex Rodriguez using steroids I will never forget. You were disappointed and embarrassed by Alex. These are not idiotic comments coming from a fan, but from you… Contradict much?

Now as I said, I am a Yankee fan but my bias is revoked in a situation like this. Alex Rodriguez is a cheater and has embarrassed himself. HOWEVER, you sir have embarrassed the entire sport that is Baseball.

Though there is no actual documentation of when steroids were implemented into Major League Sports… We know when it hit its peak in Baseball. That peak was on your watch sir.

You have been commissioner of the MLB throughout the entire steroid era as we know it. You have watched “Americas Sport” become flooded with drug peddlers and drug abusers while you sat on your ass. You knew and still know the names of people who have taken positive tests yet act surprised, shocked and awed when the results are revealed. You have done absolutely nothing as far as ridding the league of these enhancing drugs… Congress has fought this battle for MLB and have yet to make an impact. Yet you are embarrassed with one of the players taking steroids under your supervision?

As a fan of the sport I am disappointed in these players using drug enhancements and at times damn angry. Sure I am somewhat embarrassed to be a fan growing up in this era. Sure Alex Rodriguez and any players using these drugs is an embarrassment… I don’t need to hear this shit from you though Bud.. The largest embarrassment of them all.

Let Cal Ripken tell me…
Let Tony Gwynn tell me…
Let Derek Jeter tell me…
Hell, let Dustin Pedroia tell me…

You, Mr. Selig have no credibility here. You are by far the biggest embarrassment in recent sports history. I am disappointed in you.

/End Rant.

mega applause.

I have not watched Major League Baseball on television since the '94 strike, and have only attended a handful of games since.

I have a baseball card (Fleer, I think) of Mark McGwire when he was with the Oakland A's. I distinctly remember him being a skinny mofo, not buffed out.

'nuff said.

Yeah. Barry Bonds looked like me, and now looks like Andre the Giant. His fucking head grew. That doesn't happen.

Baseball is a sham. Shit sucks. They're all frauds. I wanna hear the other 103 names off that list so I can pass my judgement onto all of them as well. Ridiculous.

I think it's a lot more fun to guess which player isn't the one that's juiced. I'm pretty sure I have a better chance at winning the lottery that getting that one right.

I can't recall the article I found on ESPN.com but it made some good points about where to spread the blame. And really it can be put on more than just the shooters and upper management on MLB. What about the icons that were supposedly "pure"? Cal Ripken Jr., Tony Gwynn, Ken Griffey Jr., why the fuck didn't any of them step up and raise a fuss about any of this? I know we, as the fans, have been sick and tired of questioning the integrity of what we're watching and hearing about who got caught doing what this week. They were just as happy to pass that responsibility on to someone else just like everyone else was.

And don't think that the legit players out there who act like they're beeing cheated havn't benefited from the bigger salary's that came along with baseball's boom in revenue.

You'd be hard pressed to find someone who ISN'T at fault this late in the Steroids Era.

Even those guys might not have been "pure".

It's simple. Baseball was going down hill fast. Selig turned his eye away from Steroids on purpose so the sport could be "saved" by home runs and great pitching. He's just trying to put blame elsewhere. Worst commissioner of the big 3....ever and if anyone should have been banned from the HOF, it's HIM.

I know we, as the fans, have been sick and tired of questioning the integrity of what we're watching and hearing about who got caught doing what this week.

Don't include us all on this. Though I'm sick of hearin' about it every time I turn on ESPN or watch a sportin' event, that's all I'm sick of. Jucin' makes you stronger, faster, for longer. None of it matters if you can't hit, get on base, and catch balls in the first place. It sucks that baseball has been degraded into a home run fest as of late but hell, steroids don't win a World Series.

As far as Big Man Selig goes, he has every right to be embarrassed. He hasn't done this to baseball, poor decisions of the players have. It's all their responsibility to follow the rules and him to enforce penalties on them if they choose to not correspond. He's had a damn fine run up until now, imo. Hell he has been there since 1992 and the influx hit after the mid 2000's. Let's also not forget who's watch most of the steroid regulations came under as well. As for him sittin' on his ass, that may be true and may not be true, the only way for us to know is to be there, but we're not.

Here's a nice little chart though of baseball's steroid era: http://www.baseballssteroidera.com/

With all that said, it's fine to blame who you want but blamin' anyone other than the players, imo, is just as bad as the wackos who blame violent video games for bad kids instead of bad parenting. These are grown men for cryin' out loud.

Steroids make me all that much more grateful to watch little Dustin Pedroia win an MVP.

Seilig has not been a great commissioner. The thing he has going for him is the sales and attendance numbers... But we know what changed that. HOME RUNS.

Attendance was horrid until Seilig turned his head away and allowed steroids to invade our sport. Again there is no proof of when it officially started but the peak was obviously on his watch.

I dont give him total blame because you just cant... Sure the players and players association are all equal in blame here... The biggest issue i have is this moron acts as if he should not be mentioned in vain during this era. He honestly feels he has done nothing wrong and is in shock here.

We dont need to be any were near the man to know he sat on his ass...

When was steroid testing actually implamented? When congress stuck its nose in.

When did we see players on the hot seat for steroid or PED use? When congress stuck its nose in.

Seilig sat in the 90s-2000s and watched his sales and attendance jump to record highs... If i was him i would have done the same thing, but i am a scum bag at times. He has no right to judge any player, period.

Bud Seilig should retire before this shits slaps him in the face, which it has started to do allready. He says Arod embarrassed the game and other users also... He then days later was in the Daily News i think defending himself and upset and annoyed how he is perceived during this era... ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME SEILIG? What a freaking joke the guy is.

Someone intending to gain an advantage is all that matters to me. I don't care if you wether or not the end product is questionable. If you intend to gain an advantage over everyone else from steroids, you are cheating.

Grown man yes, but people are still stupid and will act like children. Think being a grown man absolves anyone else of all responsibility of you? Have you ever had a supervisor? A players actions reflects on the coach and the organization.

The thing about your argument that bugs the hell out of me, Osy, is that you condone Congress sticking their nose where it doesn't belong.... I won't even say it doesn't belong there, but there are much more productive and important things Congress should be doing than fuckin around with baseball, lol. That being said, I'm not a huge Selig fan, but he's been a C-student for me. Not great, not terrible. The Steroid Era isn't all his fault, but he hardly did everything in his power to stop it.

I do not condone congress getting into this. I failed to get into that because i was trying to avoid writing stories instead of paragraphs. Sorry about that. There are thousands of issues they should be concerned with before this one.

My main cause for this thread was i am pissed this dude thinks he should have a voice and an opinion we care about. He has no right to judge any player... He is just as tainted. Unless he started the sentence with... "The league along with myself are an embarrassment to the game...".

Fair enough. I could write a novel about the stupidity of congress being involved with steroids. Or illegal taping in the NFL for that matter.

I agree with the point beind made that Selig has NO right to judge or say ARod was a shame to the game and all that crap. Selig is not innocent in all this, when kids do bad things in school, or steal etc, parents are held accountable at times. Selig is partially accountable for the steroids era, so STFU and try to fix it instead of going after ONE guy.

No one is debatin' whether or not steroids is or is not cheatin'.

Irrelevant

Think being a grown man absolves anyone else of all responsibility of you?

Yes, I do. As a grown man I take responsibility for my actions be them wrong or right.

Have you ever had a supervisor?

Once, he was a pretty ace fella.

A players actions reflects on the coach and the organization.

I think he just ticked you off, you sound like a loony toon to me, and I like ya.

Furthermore, I guess you should be angry with me as well. I think A-Rod and any doper is an embarrassment to my favorite sport and find it insultin' that he, like any of the other worthless douche canoes who doped, are still on the field. If I blame Bud for anything, it's that these players are not bein' kicked out of the league. Suspension is not enough, shame is not enough, a fine is not enough, these chuts need to be banned from any and all things MLB oriented.

In the original post i said if Buds comments were coming from a fan there would be no issue. The fact is the comments are coming from someone just as tainted as the person he is calling out.

The only thing Bud has done posative in baseball is celebrate history of older players with great ceremonies... His sales and attendance numbers are a wash due to HRs and Roids. I dont know how i can sound like a looney to you Strid. You need to wake up here.

Not sure about you but I've never seen a homerun at a game that looked any different than T.V. I'm sorry but I just can't get mad at ONE man because he expressed his disgust with a cheater, even if he set there with his hands behind his back. If he forced him to do them, then we'd have a different story. No matter what, I'll never blame one man for another's actions. Bud isn't a baby-sitter.

Bug Selig should resign immediately as commissioner for overseeing baseball during the "steroid era" being virtually powerless against the player's union to implement testing on his own, being (in my opinion) the enabler of the "steroid era".

Donald Fehr should resign immediately as head of the players union for allowing the results of a test (that was conducted under the assumption of anonymity) to be "leaked out" under his watch.

Baseball's drug testing policy was only implemented due to the pressure of Congress being involved and still does not include a test for HGH.

The players are at fault for using the drugs, of course. That being said they basically were allowed to under the "leadership" of Selig and Fehr.

I'm still going watch baseball and go to Yankee games and support my team, but baseball would be best served to remove these 2 and start a new era of baseball under new leadership.
