Musicals!

[Zephayra]

I am one of those weird people who enjoy watching grown men and women dress up in elaborate costumes while dancing around and singing a story. I'm killing time at work by youtubing musical numbers and was just curious if anyone else goes to musicals, and which ones they have seen. Also, whether you thought they were good or not, because I'd love to see more. Movie versions don't count, but I'd count high school productions.

I have seen:

Grease
The King and I
The Phantom of the Opera
Lion King
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Spamalot
Evil Dead: The Musical
Wicked

[Isollde]

In order of my favorites:

Phantom of the Opera
Rent
Funny thing happened ont eh way to the forum
Guys & Dolls
Cats
Wicked
Gypsy
Lion King
Spamalot
Sideshow

[Zyndara]

I love them too! I've seen:

The Phantom of the Opera
Les Miserables
Miss Saigon
Once Upon A Mattress
Anything Goes
Fiddler on the Roof
Damn Yankees
Oliver
Guys & Dolls
Mame
My Fair Lady
West Side Story

They were all great... my least favorite was Once Upon A Mattress. Les Mis and Phantom are my favorites. Damn Yankess is funny, and West Side Story's classic.

Oh god... I fucking love musicals!

Guys & Dolls
Funny Girl
Cabaret
Hello, Dolly!
Fame
The Sound of Music
Westside Story
Wicked
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Oklahoma!
Hairspray (the original, not that Zac Efron crap)
The Producers
Moulin Rouge!

...but we never talk about Dreamgirls. That was just a big mess.

Oh, and Shoggoth on the Roof.

The first time I saw a stage production of Into the Woods, I thought the show was over at the end of Act I because it was so self-contained. I was happy when my buddy John explained there was an entire second half after the intermission and it was even better.

I don't have a lot of musical soundtracks on my iPod, but I made room for Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, and Rent. I've recently started tracking down all the shows John introduced me to back in the day. I still need to get a copy of Chess.

[Excalibur]

Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny

Who says movies don't count? ><

Not only do I love to watch them, I love to be in them as well. I have seen:

Spamalot
Into the woods
Rent
Cats
Beauty and the Beast
Chicago
Ragtime
and a bevy of others that escape me at the moment.

I have been in:

Cannibal: The Musical
Bat Boy
Diamond Dead(more of a rock show that a musical but hey)
Vlad Dracula
Little Mary Sunshine
The Pajama Game
Currently working on President Harding is a Rockstar

I just love musicals. They are way more fun than straight plays. I am glad that I am not the only one here.

[Morwen]

The King and I
Cats
Rent
Phantom of the Opera
West Side Story

Ahhh I only said this because I've seen a few musicals in their movie form and while they are good, I just didn't think they were the same kind of atmosphere. If anyone wants to talk about musicals they've seen in movies, go right ahead!

I've seen the movie versions of:

Cats
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (The original with George Hearn and Angela Lansbury, but also the Tim Burton Version)
The Pirates of Penzance
Phantom of the Paradise
Lil Shop of Horrors
The Phantom of the Opera (This was very well done)
Les Mis (But it didn't have the songs =/ )
Chicago
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Mulan Rogue (I think it sort of counts)

Oh and I saw Peter Pan in at local theatre one time...it had songs but I can't remember if it was really a 'musical' or not.

I also really love it when tv shows have their own 'musical rock opera' episodes. Yea, I'm weird.
