No they can, they just don't nowadays.
The old school early 90's rap has some pretty cool shit, but nowadays it's all about gun-toting hip gangster wanna-be thugged out fucktards.
In the mainstream, yes. But there are tons of great underground hip hop artists, people who can actually read music and who write well. Like the mainstream version of any genre, there's much better stuff than just what's on the radio.

Real Tool fans don't listen to rap :(
And "kid"? How old are YOU? XD

The great thing about music is age isn't a factor.

From my experiences, I prefer not to associate myself with people that refer to themselves as "real fans" of any band. Generally they are the most closed minded people. That's fine, but it really just boils down to them liking what they like. It's utter horseshit when the notion that being a "real fan" is brought up and the air is filled with a sense of superiority.

To put it in perspective, there's a bunch of metal fans out there listening to some heavy tunes thinking to themselves that they are so great and that they are the real fans of metal. They think Tool is a bunch of pussies.

Obviously that's not the case, but just think about it.
Putting down someone that says they like Tool, just because they also listen to other music, when you are a Tool fan yourself, is ignorant as hell...

Musical talent and appeal doesn't start with Metallica and end with Tool. Not by a long shot.

Cranes - Avenue A (gogo Pandora)

Excalibur - J5 is real good, listen to some Immortal Technique if you get the chance.

Pernice Brothers - Overcome by Happiness

Built to Spill - You were Right

Kind of a depressing song in retrospect. Lol. But all it does is use quotes from other songs.

Charles Mingus -Moanin'
