My Account was Hacked :(

Smartest comment I've read in a long time.

This is the dumbest post I've read in a long time. Maybe your next argument will be that this is the fault of the people who were hacked because they didn't have their attorneys look over the TOS before they started playing too? Where's that common sense you were just talking about? I don't see it anywhere in this post.

And I'd argue this entire thread, along with Kisada's fucking toolbag 'please fix your security' thread both fight for the stupidest thread in a long time.
You're basically telling the hackers, 'I can't fend for myself, target me' by putting your name on the list. Jussy, you signed a legal document. That's why they have the license agreement. I didn't read it, but then again I wasn't stupid enough to go and get hacked, now was I?

Tre, this isn't rape, its a fucking video game. Its not Jussy's fault he got hacked, but its a preventable offense. You don't go downtown big city and leave your car unlocked and unattended, you're asking for it to get ripped off. Same precedent here.

You still somehow gave someone your account information, Ie Username and password. The fact that you didn't know you were doing it isn't a legit argument...you did, and because of that, thats all that has EVER been needed to change CC information. You can't cry wolf now simply because you've been wronged. Where were people bitching about this 4 years ago when the policy came out?
You agreed to the license agreement, or you wouldn't have been playing this game.

Man what makes you such an expert?? How do you know how the hackers got her username and password and again how did they get her POL ID that would be required to change CC info??? Well??? I am quite sure that she didn't key in her POL ID to log in...I could be wrong but try asking her instead of assuming she just gave it out. As much of a knob you are I wouldn't even wish you being hacked...here's a word "compasion"

I have said it before and will say again there is absolutley no proof that you nor anyone else on this entire thread have been able to show that the keyloggers trojans etc were the cause...it is only assumed...deal with it. See you had the keylogger see see that was the cause...everyone may have had windows installed...everyone may have had adware...who knows how they did it. Point is that until an investigation is actually launched and proven it is all heresay.

For your information I do run A/V software, which to use your words try reading before you respond DIP*&%$....if you would have bothered to read you would know that. Again who said I didn't turn my A/V back on after the install...I didn't say that so stop making assumptions

As for SE neither you nor anyone else will convince me that SE does not have a degree of responsibilty, so beyond being the Internet Security Expert you are :nono:, unless you moonlight as a Judge I will take my chances.

Oh I don't know, maybe precedent was set for years here when everyone on these boards said that the only way to get hacked was to give out your info?

Just because you are aware of how to keep your pc secure, doesn't mean that everyone is. I could argue that you're a fucking idiot because you don't know how to do certain things too.

Yeah this is the stupidest thread of all time because it got out a warning to a ton of people on how to protect themselves from this happening. That makes so much sense.

1. Don't take precedents from a Video Game forum
2. Watch the News. People / Industries have been getting hacked for much longer than this game has been around.
3. Not protecting yourself on the net is just as, if not, more retarded then not taking proper precautions irl. Yes, you could go into certain areas of the world without proper precautions and come out unscathed, but before doing so you'd always make sure you knew what you were doing beforehand. Just because this is a virtual world doesn't mean there aren't virtual criminals.

TL;DR ALERT. YOU ARE WARNED.

Im sorry I didn't realize what a group of security experts you all were..wow First off if you followed the warning it is entirley possible you can get hacked, if you knew as much about computers as you think you do then you would know that 2-3 minutes can be a lifetime in the network world.

Second SE has done nothing but issue a statement blaming other sites without any kind of investigation on their part to back up their claim.

Third since you have not been hacked and just so you know what you are in for...

"You downloaded a malicious piece of software" to "You are using illegal 3rd party tools" to "It was your fault, Mr. Customer"

Tell me now that the offending sites have been either shut down or corrected so the most recent hacks on people who had thoroughly checked their systems because of all this and got hacked anyway would be?

Deserve to be hacked... real nice so customers that have followed the same internet practices for years with no issues, the TOS, paid all their fees and bought all the software deserve to get hacked?

What I do know for a fact be it assumption or not is this rash of stolen accounts began on Nov.20 and has been growing ever since (Read Nov.20 since WOTG release) It can be argued it was happening before, which I can buy for a buck but not in these kind of numbers.

It's nice that you all feel you can flame on people as it has not happened to you directly.....but tell me will you all have the same mindset when 3 years of your lesiure time gets taken away from you in a single night? And will you so strongly defend SE when it gives you the same answer as we all have been getting...think about it
I agree with EVERYTHING this man/woman has said. This is not the fault of those persons who have been hacked. If they did not know safe browsing practices, freaking teach it to them as I've had to do in every single thread that has been started on this subject in the past week.

Well said Metal.

I can't believe some of you are blaming the people who got hacked, you're just as bad as SE. Wanting to play an MMORPG on a computer doesn't make you a computer tech and believe it or not a lot of people use computers strictly for leisure and really don't all the steps that you can take to save yourself from being hacked. Expecting everyone who plays this game via PC to know all this is like expecting everyone who drives to know how to change their brake pads and rotors. Totally ridiculous.

I hope you all get your accounts back - you're not cheaters and hackers, you're just people who hit a snag of bad luck :/
I fully agree with this whole post likewise. They were in the wrong place at the wrong time, and just as an added precaution to anyone who feels they may be in danger of being hacked:

I'd venture over to these websites, and put alerts on your accounts.
http://www.equifax.com/home/
http://www.experian.com/
http://www.transunion.com/

Put holds on your accounts, and you'll be alerted or the shady transactions will be halted. (i.e. a transaction that occurs from China/Korea/wherever won't occur if the majority of your recent transactions have occurred in, say, Florida).

Yes, it is your fault for going to possible leery websites and not having correct security procedures on your machine. SE is providing a gaming service, not a babysitting service. As was mentioned earlier in this thread, be glad it was just a ffxi account that got hacked, and that your Credit Cards weren't phished while making an online purchase. If I got hacked, I'd at least have the balls to hone up and say 'Maybe I shouldn't have done that', rather than starting a stupid fucking petition to SE to change their security methods.

If you take a serious look at internet security, as you should with any internet proceeding, you'll begin to realize that being a dumbass doesn't pay when you're dealing with hackers.
Good lord, how ridiculous can you get?

Actually, I'd much rather leave my car unlocked. If anyone's going to steal my shit, I'd rather them test the door, open it, and take it before smashing out my windows.

How's that for security?

Oh ok. So by your definition if I go to a neighborhood I've been to a thousand times before, which has always seemed perfectly safe and I don't bring a handgun or mace with me, I'm an idiot?

This is a stupid argument. Just because someone is not Internet-savvy does not make getting hacked that person's fault. It's the hackers fault and it's the company's fault for not having proper account protections in place. How can you blame the individuals getting hacked when the company isn't even smart enough to have proper precautions in place? If SE couldn't foresee this wave of hacked accounts, how could the average player?

Regardless I'm done with this because it's silly, and your lack of empathy is pretty pathetic, so it's not really worth arguing with you at this point.

I've said a few times already. Its not their fault they got hacked. But its a preventable offense. Bringing a handgun to a neighborhood park isn't the same deal. The internet =/= real life. There's many more predators here then are found out in the real world, why you wouldn't take precautions is beyond me.

Who could know that gonig on some FFXI related site, without even downloading anything, would get your account hacked by someone in China? Granted, how people still use IE, is way beyond my comprehension, but it still doesnt warrant them being bashed by you Jamal.

Make love not war....rior.

However, I bet if you did leave a convertible with the keys in it, that the customer service (in this case the cops) would do something about it. Not tell you that the person who took your car changed the plates on it, so it was rightfully theirs now.

I don't recall signing a legal document. (Not sure what you mean here)

Trelution is bringing this to a matter of principle. No it's not rape, but what individual is to judge what crime is more serious than another? The fact is that it WAS a crime, and should be rectified. Rapists go to jail... which is not what we're pushing for with these hackers. We are pushing for a policy that will return our characters to the rightful owner.

I think we're doing a pretty good job of keeping the seriousness of the situation parallel to our recommendations for change.

Tristram: I do have a hold on my CC account so that someone who tries to do a transaction in China wont be able to, however, SE doesnt recognize such worthwhile policies. The people who hacked my account changed the CC info, and any charges now go to their CC.

Read the bolded. So which is it? I'd be stoked to think that we actually changed your mind and that you agree with us, however I won't get my hopes up.

I would like to point out that the "leery" websites were Somepage, and FFXIAH. The exploit was through Realplayer, and was newer than almost every single virus definition in most AV programs. Check your facts.

Figures. For all SE knows then, you might have sold your account via ebay, and are now regretting the decision; I can almost bet that's their mode of thinking.

It's not right if they are, but that's probably why they say their hands are tied.

I mentioned this idea to the PoL rep and how if that's the case, then they should freeze my account and investigate it, because buying/selling/trading accounts is also against their policy. She said I was right, but that policy didn't allow her to freeze it, that I needed to file a report with the STF etc. Her nor a different advisor were able to connect me to a superadvisor. Go figure.

Please do quote me saying its your own fault for getting hacked.

Can't? Oh, that's right, I never said it. And FYI, Jamal didn't say it was your fault either. He simply stated its stupid to not protect yourself as a "just-in-case". A "It won't happen to me" attitude is never good to have. When you go have sex with someone, you most likely use protection. If you don't, odds are you'll either get infected, or you/your partner will get pregnant. Internet is the same thing.

LOL.

You're absolutely right, but I'm sorry, our policy doesn't allow us to take any recourse on actions against our policy because we're making money, one way or the other...

Circle-jerking fucktards. After I'm done with FFXI I'm never purchasing another Squeenix product again.

Not at any point in either of those posts does it say TO UZOR or UZOR:

I'm not going back and looking for when it was said that it's the hack-ee's fault for not having a secure enough computer but I've read it a few times and Jussy has gone through and done so all ready. Besides most peoples computers have basic protection via built-in firewalls and Norton, someone exploiting a security flaw in Real Player isn't really something you could see happening. Your example fails. It'd be more like if you had sex with a condom and the condom failed and you got pregnant.
