this project has been a long time coming, years infact since last i mentioned it here on QCDN. Before the Elite existed and i wanted a black xbox.
Well now i own an Elite and i own a First Gen model.
I got bored with the plain look of the first gen model, I also did not want two black xbox 360's, And decided it was time to start my modding work!
I have never actually done anything like this before, Im an artist so the design work wouldnt be hard, But i had never actually used a dremel for something like this (I etched glass with one for awhile when i was much younger, but that lasted like 2 months before i got bored)
I wasnt sure how to go about painting it, I only knew what electronic mods i wanted to make.
So i began work on the "Thundercats" Xbox 360.
I figured if i was going to do all this work, i would be able to make a guide out of my experience for those who might venture into such a project with no experience.
So i decided on my design and drew it out in pencil on the case.
I used a CD for the circle outline, and sketched by eye the thundercats logo head from an image on the PC.
After that it was time to make the first cut, Which i nervously plunged in.
Not too shabby actually, I found it odd cutting with a circular cutting tool on rounded parts of the design, but i just took my time and got it the best i could.
I then very carefully cut out the eye
I then completed my basic design cuts
As you can see there were some things off with the cuts, So i made some adjustments using the sanding tool and then i used the buffing tool to smooth everything out.
I made the circle a little rounder as best i could by eye since i couldnt line anything up and cut around it without cutting it too. I buffed out what i could and smoothed it all over.
Next i took some sand paper and sanded down the entire case and sprayed it with primer.
I bought some small spray paint cans of car touch up paint, These cans held enough to do a couple coats of paint on each part of the case
I Decided on a Dark Blue for the case and a Light Blue for the hardware and smaller pieces.
I also had decided on Chrome for the cat head itself.
I decided to paint the cat head first since letting it dry and covering it up would allow me to paint the rest much easier than painting the whole case then covering it all up to paint the head.
In the end the chrome irked me way too much and i decided i dont like it, so im not keeping it. It also bugged me that the "Xbox 360" text still showed through some.
I painted the Blue on, But sanded down the Cat head.
I then painted the face plate and the other half of the case.
