My Dearest Masta Audino

Status
Not open for further replies.
I have posted my feelings on the subject in the past and they went largely ignored so masta (and yes I will call you masta for now on seeing as it appears to annoy you) I feel as if our discussion can now get started.

The flame board will turn into whatever the community wants it to turn into if we want to see more pictures of Kefka or popcorn then that’s what will be posted… the people who don’t like what is posted can stop reading at any time.. I don’t believe this is the only page your internet window allows you to view.

Rules on the flameboard beyond the security of sensitive information are extremely useless the only thing that it will cause is the death of the site… if that’s what you are going for have a fucking ball because your doing a bang up job. And if you don’t like masta Audino I can always start calling you Sculli… but even I think that that is a bit below the belt. For the most part we are adults... so treat us like one and stop editing our content whatever that may be.

First thing is, you're calling him "masta" over his actions as moderator on an internet forum? Really? You do need to step back and think. This site isn't going to hell because they're trying to clean up the useless garbage that clutters up so many threads on the flameboard. I can see your reacting this way if they start clipping things that are important to an argument or could settle an issue in the public view, but you're getting all worked up because they're editing out trash that has nothing to do with the subject at hand?

While I do agree that controversial topics like religion and the like shouldn't be deleted from QCDN in general because I think they generate a lot of very interesting and thought provoking discussion, in the end it is to their discretion, not ours as the community, that determine the content of this site. You'd like to think they will take our thoughts on changes into consideration but the bottom line is, if they wanted to wipe out everything non-FFXI there's not a damn thing anyone could do about it. I don't think they would, but I also don't think they'll take someone turning blue and stomping their feet over what they want very seriously either. History has shown that tactic doesn't work too well, and I'm not sure how you think being rude to Audino by resorting to name-calling is going to somehow make your opinion more valuable or likely to make changes.

This just in:
the enforcement of rules on the asshole of QCDN is causing the downfall to the boards as a whole.
I never knew this.

These types of topics come up every couple of months. People are always pissed off at the mods for something or another. Hell I think I made one once, can't remember. Honestly the mods put up with a ton of our shit and it's not something I'd want to deal with if I weren't being paid for it like I am my rl forum job.

Honestly, there's little that can be done if you don't agree other than to just stfu and move on. A lot of old timers will remember during the prime of the "sculli carebear era" that a large number of users said "fuck these rules" and created qcnn, a rule-free haven that actually still had rules anyway. It lasted... a month? I think less than a month, then everyone was right back here again. Face it, this is Quetzalcoatl's forum. If you don't like or agree with something, you can either attempt once to peacefully have a rule changed (off the flameboard and without kindergarten language), or you can just deal with it. Them's the breaks.

Dejavu, you will always be to me that fucking loser that made that "flame" about "hay qcdnerz! lets see how ZANY we can get with DERAILZ!!!!!"

Once I can get over seeing you as just that guy, I can hardly take you seriously. Good luck with this flame. You're going to need it.

You do realize the futility of this situation don't you?

The mods here really could care less. They're far from adult. A lot of them suffer from the same guiding forces behind kids on the playground that "Take their ball and go home" when they lose. They change the rules constantly to fit their needs... If you piss them off they willl just make rules specific to you and only you. This forum is getting to the point to where people are flat out afraid to post because they'll get banned because they're not in the 'in crowd', or berated because they have a legitimate question or theory that doesn't fit the /bg/ modus...

Realistically, this is just like any other forum. It wouldnt' exist if it wasn't for the readership. And that's been declining for a while. Some days I poke around here and look at threads and see that it's got more Mods than Readers. It's growing into the admin's other failed project Shinracorp or whatever that shithole's called. If you look at the history of the admin he's got another forum he's ground into the earth, and this one is headed in the exact same direction. It's turning into the slowest Instant Messenger in the FFXI world for an exclusive group of people.

To the mods:

Ease up on the rules. You're just making rules for the sake of making rules now.

Grow a pair, 3/4 of you just say "It was a staff decision, I'm just enforcing it" if that's true, then it was your decision, and you're not "just enforcing it".

To the previous statement, either man up and take responsibility for your decisions and stop hiding behind that bullshit, or stand up for your conviction and actually have a voice when these decisions are made.

If you're going to mod, just mod. Don't be the cop that pulls over people then follows them to where they hang out and annouce what a douche people are for speeding... You're in a way enabling that behaviour. Be impartial. If you're going to be a member of the community, be more prepared for the reaction of those who will enevitably see the favoratism and biases you have. Lashing out to "Defend yourself" only makes it worse...

No, just because you have Mod status doesn't make you smarter or more mature than the group you govern; it just means you were on someone's good side, and they decided to include you in their hobby.

To Reeve:

Shinra failed, it's over. If the square wheel doesnt' roll, stop making square wheels... Move on and up, because you constantly looking into the past is affecting the future of this forum.

The princemercury thread itself was a touchy subject and itself a sort of "gateway" flame if it was allowed to be then threads of any similar nature can be posted regarded anything and it wouldn't be "discussion" it would be flaming. I did/do not agree with drew's viewpoints but agreeing with the manner in which the thread was constructed would drive more people away from the site.

Which goes onto a point you made about people not liking the site, remember that we the active posters(or trolls whichever word you want to use here) are just a small part of the members registered. What keeps people from here is the deragatory attitude that is shown in most areas of the site. Why would we want to allow these types of threads(ie of rl nature like prince's) to co-exist with what he have now? Are we really into bashing people's beliefs and spitting whatever we think back at their faces?

There is really a baseline sort of decency that follows with any form of communication but we have rules that try to establish them(read: they shouldn't be there but why are they there?...). Allowing flames of that would just push the bar lower for just talking and would indirectly allow more flamebaiting(yes it's there sometimes subtle but it's there) in other areas against people not just for now game aspects but now rl concepts.

To me the thread itself was a push to allow a rl flameboard even prince wanted that.

As far as the community deciding the content, that's not in our control you have to remember that we don't support this site directly and it's currently on a deficit as far as upkeeping goes, to an extent you have to be concerned with what others that aren't active posters think and what keeps them here and away since their views do help the site. Isn't there also a clause stating that everything we say is subject to administration's curfew anyways?

Mods arent the problem, from what I see, 99% of the posts are just bitches bitching for the sake of bitching. I honestly dont understand (after reading grammar, spelling, subjects, ect) that some of these people got to where they are today.

I am quite happy with the mods here, although I think they are way too nice on QCDN as a whole. If I was a mod, *loads the gun to shoot himself in the perverbial possible mod foot* I would ban people for life. "These people should be unbanned" posts would be deleted in an instant. If you complain about modding, I would verbally eat your skin and ban you. Flame me? I'd flame you back.

Seriously. The only people who need to grow a pair are the posters of QCDN. "Too scared to post out of fear of being banned". What are you? a pussy? Does QCDN mean that much to you people that you hide behind other people willing to post? and only jump on the mods backs when someone does it first?

You should all consider youself lucky QCDN even exists. Dont like it? Leave. Mod's take time out of their day to work this site. If you dont have the decency to keep your mouths shut, then I have something you can fill it with.

Damn, I wanted to be a mod some day.. oh well. I hope some of you read this twice.

Damn man some people have too much fucking time on their hands around here.

Audino's an Ass. I hate him. (was that a good flame?)

Exactly, don't want people to say something that they didn't think through, give you shit, then back up and take a different stance so that they look like less of an ass.

I like the no-edit rule because of this. I enjoy making myself look like an ass.

Making an ass of yourself then admitting it is always the best course of action anyhow.

Hell, even making an ass of yourself then completely denying it is better than editing it out and pretending it never happened. =P

Meh@The thread being directed at Audino, however I do agree with one point - We (Or "you", since I'm not reallya frequenter anymore) shouldn't give a damn what people who are one-time stoppers think of the site. If they're pushed away by the fact that there's a flameboard on the site, sad for them. There's many more subforums full of quality posts and information thats helpful to the game and community (hell, even many flames have had such information and posts as well).

Whole thing seems silly to me. Seems to be one of the lesser-beaten dead horses, but a dead horse nonetheless.

Jesus are we back on this subject again.. first it was the whole ignore issue.. then the derails.. then the rep( sorry if they are not in the correct order too many bitchy issues to keep up with them) so I'm like the other person i cant remember who said it.. but fuck they need to change the name of this to BItchfest.org or at least change the flameboard to the "I have nothing better to do than bitch about some insignificant bullshit". Seriously.. no thread i have read about someone bitching about the mods has done a bit of fucking good.. they are the mods deal with it.. thats like the neighbor kid sayin "Nuhuh your not my momma you cant tell me what to do" Pssht please gtfo with that shit. Bottom line.. you can tell from the get go what a thread is about generally from the title.. or where its housed at.. and if its here on the flameboard its just someone bitching about someone else.. When the fuck did bitching about shit ever evoke changes? And so what if they do change it to please you , then what about everyone else? May be everyone should have thier own fuckin forum and then they can make all the fucking rules they want.. or not.. I honestly dont care.. but fuck dont come here complaining about people who are working these boards BECAUSE THEY FUCKING WANT TO. NOT BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO. Sorry for the caps but I felt that i needed to raise my voice for that one.. lol Any way long story short.. Bitches are bitches because...... they like to bitch.. To bitch or not to bitch... that is the question..

Sorry for the randomness of my thoughts.. thats just how they come out sometimes.. and for the record.. when a thread runs its end it should be fuckin locked.. Whats the point in keeping it open? There is no point. And this is the only place were we cant edit our posts but there is this great thing thats called preview post.. and there you and read your dumbassery way before you post it and edit it there.. No need to go back later and try to make your self or someone else look good with an edit. No flip flopping. ok.. I think im done now.. heheh

Dejavu will likely take this as a compliment, but he's too liberal.

Human beings can't survive without rules (or too few rules), much like they can't survive being equals (see: communism). Anyone with an ounce of understanding of the human nature knows this.

Can Dejavu make intelligent posts (or at least attempted intelligence) and not simply toss out crap? yes, but Deja tell me you trust more than 20% if that of other people to do the same.

i'd honestly say this should be met part way with both sides. I hate crap posts (see: posts with "/em eats popcorn" etc), and i think they should be deleted. In regards to topics or actual discussion, it should be all goes so long as personal information maintains as much of an enforced confidentiality as possible. I also think that this leads me to believe that we should have multiple flame boards. One for FFXI/QCDN and one for those of a high controversial nature (perhaps as part of the "off topic" section). This will make it easier for people to avoid these threads by those who wish to keep strictly to FFXI related things, while allowing this outlet for the higher stung members.

If you're worried about how that might look, make it so the more controversial flame board is restricted from viewing unless you become a member of that section of the board. I think this would be a relatively easy solution to meet the needs of all parties.

I can't wait to see how Deja reacts to the editing of his post...

Well, in all fairness... It was a private message. You should get consent from the other party first. But whatever...

Btw, I post strictly for the PC+1. That's why Jamal be hatin' on me. And don't worry Mish, I'm always more than happy to admit when I'm an ass ^^

I have to disagree with "Flameboard is what the community makes it" bid cus well... We don't have that authority or power, and we never will. If Reeve or Miros or Arc says the FB goes buh-byes then its gone, you can bitch gripe and moan but there wouldnt be a damn thing you could do about it. These players are mods or admins for a reason and what they say or do, goes. This isn't the US or any other country, it is QCDN.org and if you don't like whats going down, then hit logout and never come back...

QFT first and foremost. Jamal also has a VERY good point there.

Seriously Deja, what do you plan to get from this? This board ISNT a democracy or republic so we dont have MUCH of a say in what goes on. I say be thankful to Miros and the mods that they take into consideration what changes can and should be made to the site. If you have a problem with a mod/admin take it to PM, dont make an ass out of yourself in the FB trying to make a point that hardly anyone is going to side with. Rules are rules, and as human being we NEED them in order to function. Ease up and try a less hostile method of dealing with shit.

Why yes actually, I do have a problem thank you for asking; however, I do not feel like getting over it I would rather see it fixed.

Actually yes I have read the guidelines and they are pretty clear

Oh but what about this part… well this is refers to people who are angry at the site QCDN like this thread and not really towards people who are angry at people who use QCDN… Hence my comment

If you want to know the problems with the way that masta is running the boards let me list them for you.

1. Locking threads on the flame board for no good reason (thinking that a flame has run its course is not a good reason)
http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showpost.php?p=947513&postcount=350

It is the flameboard when we are done with a flame it will fall of the front page in a natural death. The only valid reason for locking a thread should be if someone necros.

No, actually. There are some topics that are ultimately beaten to death. Both sides will have been given, and then it's just people re-posting the same thing over and over again. Those topics are really considered to be dealt with and over with.

2. Locking threads with no reason given even though it has been stated that one should be.
http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showthread.php?t=59792&page=7

Apparently a policy has been put in place so this wont happen in the future however the explanation needs to be fucking added when the thread is locked because if it is a good thread there are most likely a few people who are in the process of typing responses to it like I was on the princemercury thread. When I hit post it said thread was locked and there was no explanation. I hit refresh a few times and there was still no explanation so I made a post in the QCDN Support, Feedback and Announcements section which is the correct course of action to take when you have a comment about something that is going on, on the board.

Not only was that thread locked before I felt that it was resolved but Miros also felt the need to edit my original post and change the title of my thread… Why?

The "editing" of your original post was simply to change the title. People were more apt to view it if I put up that title instead of the title beforehand. The post I had at the end to lock it did have something to do with the flame and your OP. That is why I edited it.

Most posts that are locked do deserve an explanation. If there are some that have not gotten them within a reasonable amount of time (Just FYI - I consider 1/2 hour a reasonable amount of time) then feel free to PM one of the mods and we'll do what we can to figure out why it was locked.

3. Deleting or locking threads because they are controversial

Well shit I cant exactly post a link for this kind of occasion because the have been deleted. What is wrong with a little controversy? The thread that both Enlenne and Princemercury posted were both interesting to read and in no way warranted having the threads locked. Same thing applies to the gay pride thread and any religion threads.

The threads themselves were interesting because it was usual drama. Quite frankly, I am tired of this site just viewed as the drama site. We are going to be doing our best to bring it more FFXI orientated and bring a wealth of knowledge here instead of useless drama. This may upset some, but what can I say? While some people may view FFXI as dead, I personally don't. And one way I believe we can bring in the demograph of new players is by showing knowledge instead of drama.

And like I said in the other controversial threads...I have no problem against them until they become ugly. The minors + adults one got ugly. I had three choices in my opinion. I could have let the flame go on with a bunch of "I hope you get hit by a bus you disgusting pervert" and break my general rule about what's said in RSI...stays in RSI. Or, I could have closed the flame and cleaned up the Minors + Adults one which would have angered people and I guarantee would cause people to start making assumptions that I agree with pedophilia. After debating what to do, I decided that ridding both the flame and the original post would have been the ideal thing to do. The original post was up for a long time and I believe that anything that should have been said...was said. They are both gone so that we can focus on the future instead of waiting for another blow up.

If controversial topics are something that you would like to see, then you should do your best to convince your friends who use QCDN posts to intellectual debate. (Please don't take this as Princemercury is your friend. I don't know and it's not relevant, I'm just saying spread the word to those you talk to on QCDN and off perhaps.)

4. Miros response to the flame

There is only one group that should be concerned with the content that is being posted on this board and they are the community members. I don’t give a fuck who the hell you have coming to the site that you think that you need to clean it up to your standards. We are the members of this forum and if we decide to enter into a conversation about the dating of a 12 year old girl (ewww btw) then we should be allowed to have that conversation. The members of the site should be allowed to decide the content of the site… if no one wanted to talk about it then it wouldn’t have been addressed in the first place.

You may not care about the growth of QCDN, but I do. I do not enjoy giving out everything I am doing for this site, because surprises are good sometimes, so I am going to leave my comment at that.

To Miros...
If the people that you have visiting the site are going to think less of you or us because of what they read us conversing about I have a question for you. Who the fuck cares? If you are trying to use this site to get a job… Then they should understand that we are people and you don’t have any control over what is posted… well shouldn’t. If you are just showing this site to your friends then what the hell is the problem and if you are showing this to someone else for some other reason… Who fucking cares what they think about the members of this forum for whatever reason.

I don't mind if they think less of me, it's the site that primarily concerns me. My resume isn't too shabby so I don't actually need to add this site to it however. :)

Conclusion

So Audino you ask if I have a problem… and my answer is yes I have a huge fucking problem and it happens to be everyone who has the button that allows them to edit, delete or lock anyone else’s thoughts out of the conversation because they do not like them even though they have not directly broken any rules.

http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showpost.php?p=946841&postcount=61

I have posted my feelings on the subject in the past and they went largely ignored so masta (and yes I will call you masta for now on seeing as it appears to annoy you) I feel as if our discussion can now get started.

You have to realize again...some flames just will make lots of people uncomfortable. We do have a large audience that doesn't exactly post on the boards and we are trying to think of them when we close some posts. And not to mention, the flameboard is in the FFXI section so flames should be going back towards FFXI. I apologize if you feel any different, but like I have said earlier, I have no problem with intellectual debates in their specific forums. There's no reason to have to call anybody anything to try to get your point across. Also, with the edit button, we keep it out so people can't retract what they have said.

The death of this site will not come from flameboard rules being a little harsher. Sculli took the flameboard away and the site was still up and running. I understand you may think the rules are a bit more stricter, but all they are doing is cutting out certain items. Now it should be easier to keep up with flames without having to read through useless posts of people getting out popcorn or posting pictures of a breast and a kitten with a slogan. We do not usually edit content. Your post had the title edited and I wouldn't consider that as content.

I hope this clears up some issues for you.

First off, Audino I love you, and this has nothing to do with you, thought I should mention.
I agree with my dearest friend DJ, people with the control to lock and edit other peoples post, for no apparent reason, or out of sure bias. Like when Mikeman posted the "truth" about Mikeman thread and later someone just edited everyone of his entire postings. What he posted may have been Bullshit, but hey its a forum and this forum especially is 99% pure unadulterated bullshit, and damn it, I wanted to read it.
If someone is trolling or necro posting on a thread, there are understandable instances to lock or edit post. Editing and locking threads because "You" don't agree? People post bullshit and I want to read it. Welcome to QCDN.

I like to think that we aren't doing it out of pure bias. We should be giving a reason for every locked post. And like I said earlier, if there is not a reason after a reasonable amount of time, then just PM the mod or admin that is on and ask why. The Mikeman incident is indeed a difficult one to explain. The easiest way to say it was the post was made and edited outside of the flameboard. After we viewed it to be a viable flame, it was moved to this forum. The posts were not edited within the flameboard and not edited by a mod except to put a note in as to why it was edited...

The "ifs" come in a little bit there. I'd like to think the staff has come a long way since last year even. We do take into consideration what the people of this site want. I can point out the QCDN Support, Feedback, and Announcements forum to prove my point. Some items I may not be up for debating, but they are usually items that are primarily concerned with staffing.

I completely disagree with the statement that the mods here really could care a less. I cannot begin to tell you how many hours I spend speaking with some team members and attempt to find ways to brings users to this place, or stop certain poor things from happening. I don't really think we've changed the rules all that much. We are doing what should have been done in the first place. I would like some examples of the "rules specific to you and only you" as well. Let's look at August's crime and punishment. Two issues were from abuse of the reported post feature. There is a note when you report someone's post saying "Please do not abuse the report feature." One was a sockpuppet. Three were from inappropriate material. Those rules that we used were set in place back when Cmdrfly was head administrator, so at least for the month of August we did not use any biased to ban any member.

I don't see a reason why people are afraid either. In fact, sometimes it seems that people don't talk to me much since I'm the admin...so there aren't many people that can be considered the "in" crowd. :( But in all seriousness, people should not be afraid to post at all. That is unless they are going to the good times section and going to rip in a member and explain to them why they suck. Even then, unless they have enough infractions built up it won't constitute a ban. So even that section seems a little...2 years ago.

I beg to differ actually...according to the statistics, and I just pulled a random date out. August 7, 2007 had only 60 more visitors then it did this year. However, the difference in new posts was 301 in favor of 2008. Looking at the new posts statistics, one could see that the side is actually growing. However, it may be growing in areas that you don't visit.

I don't exactly appreciate the jab towards Reeve here either. The reason I say that is because I believe him and I have a good understanding. You should know that a good deal of the decisions go through myself and the staff that we have. So basically...by saying that Reeve is running this forum into the ground, you are saying that I am running the forum into the ground and I will have to disagree again with you on that topic. Reeve has been a great mentor for me when I returned as admin. He has helped me with a lot and I hope we can continue to have the same relationship we do now.

I guess maybe I'm confused with those whole section. I don't think we're trying to hide behind a staff decision and make us look like heros? Do you have an example of this? If you are referring to the video game forums...well...the mod who was in charge of them did have the balls to do what he had to get them back.

Again, I would really like to see examples on the board for this.

No, just because you have Mod status doesn't make you smarter or more mature than the group you govern; it just means you were on someone's good side, and they decided to include you in their hobby.
Quite the contrary actually...Make joined the team without myself even really knowing who he was. We usually look for people with clean histories who present themselves well. Either that, or people who express interest in certain areas. Audino was somebody I had never spoken to until he expressed interest in being the dynamis forum moderator. He was upped to global mod because I believed he could bring a good opinion to the table and have the ability to tell me "No, that idea would suck" instead of being a yes man.

To Reeve:

Shinra failed, it's over. If the square wheel doesnt' roll, stop making square wheels... Move on and up, because you constantly looking into the past is affecting the future of this forum.

Once again...it's mostly me whose the one doing the admin with Arc, so a jab at Reeve may fall upon deaf ears.

Also, just so people know...I would prefer to have private messages to be private. I was debating on closing this, but I think I'll keep it open for the time being so people can respond to my post.

Hate to run right now but I have the computer geek here right now to help me with one of my computers.

Well, just cleaned up all the PC+1 and irrelevant one lines. I figured even though the flame fails, thats no reason to not at least make it look pretty.

Its the least I could do as a biased, corrupt global moderator that doesn't give a shit about any of you and serves no other purpose other than to screw you all over. /end sarcasm.

Just gimme my fucking ball back, Phraust. I'm going home.

Let me address the part of this that bothers me the most first.

First off thank you for being a dick once again and editing my original post so that it did not include the PM apparently with past precedence on my side a PM is still somehow considered RL identifiable information… no I don’t think so. A RL personal threat… I don’t know how I can make one of those just copy and pasting … (I’m pretty fucking talented if I can do that). Well then it must have been harassment… yea im prolly guilty of this one.

There has never been a problem with people posting pictures of their private messages in the past and to my knowledge it has never been deleted.

http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showthread.php?t=62550

If the problem was that I posted something that someone intended to be private… well then that’s too fucking bad im not gonna caudle a retard. Also if this is the case then we need to start by removing all of the rate down comments from people’s signatures because those were also intended to be private when they were written and those fuckers are everywhere. I am not trying to get you in trouble but look at Moink’s sig if you don’t know exactly what I mean.

But without a valid reason to remove the picture from my opening post I will repost it here and ask that it is reinserted into my original post because I do not much care for the tone that masta used when he sent it to me. Also I do not need consent to post a private message for the same reason that you don’t need consent to post a rate down.

By the way… your preference should not matter you put rules on the board for a reason and as far as I can tell I haven’t really broken any. So stop editing my posts as PMs have never been deleted out of arguments in the past.

No, actually. There are some topics that are ultimately beaten to death. Both sides will have been given, and then it's just people re-posting the same thing over and over again. Those topics are really considered to be dealt with and over with.

And what are the guidelines to decide that a topic are beaten to death… because right now it just seems like a judgment call. As I said before when the users are done with the flame they will let it die there is no reason to lock a flame and make it die.

The "editing" of your original post was simply to change the title. People were more apt to view it if I put up that title instead of the title beforehand. The post I had at the end to lock it did have something to do with the flame and your OP. That is why I edited it.

And what was wrong with the title that I had chosen in all honesty the reason I didn’t call it iaredrew flame or w/e you decided to call it is because for me it was less about the flame itself and more about the idea of locking a thread purely because it had disagreeable content… if you think that I was actually mad that I couldn’t berate a pedaphile you sadly missed the entire point of my post. I was angry because the thread was locked and the deleted solely on the basis that it was controversial. There was no reason and you should have no ability to change the title of my thread because it completely changes the tone and focus of the argument that I presented.

Most posts that are locked do deserve an explanation. If there are some that have not gotten them within a reasonable amount of time (Just FYI - I consider 1/2 hour a reasonable amount of time) then feel free to PM one of the mods and we'll do what we can to figure out why it was locked.

Well jamal already covered this one for you in another section of the site… there is a lock and post function on almost every board that I have seen and I doubt that this one is any exception.

If people want to see knowledge about the game then this is definitely not the site for them. This site is a forum not a guide and as far as I know that is going to stay the purpose of the board. As for new players to ffxi… lol the game is dieing and it has been for quite a little while hence all of the changes SE is making to keep it on life support. New players for the most part are not going to come atleast not in the droves that it would take to reverse the number of people quitting the game. Truthfully we have more people on this site that do not even play the game anymore.

Controversy is a good thing because for the most part it sparks intelligent debate that at times can get a little heated. The only thing that closing a topic does is make people either more closed-minded about a subject or stronger in the belief that the way they do things are acceptable.

You may not care about the growth of QCDN, but I do. I do not enjoy giving out everything I am doing for this site, because surprises are good sometimes, so I am going to leave my comment at that.

Nope… this is a forum for a video game when the game dies I fully expect the site to die as well… however by the amount of people sporting the retired tags I kinda doubt that to be true.

I don't mind if they think less of me, it's the site that primarily concerns me. My resume isn't too shabby so I don't actually need to add this site to it however. :)

Then why did you make the comment, “However, I have been speaking to a few people regarding this site and when they visit it, I don't want this to be the thing they see.” If you do not mind if they think less of you then why do you care about what they read.

What is wrong with uncomfortable. I was uncomfortable when my first friend came out to me when I was in high school. Because I had to deal with that discomfort I was able to get over my feelings about it and now I could give a rats ass what peoples preferences are. In fact sadly enough of my friends from high school over half now play for the other team…While I agree that for the most part there is no reason to call someone a name to get your point across for the most part because in all honesty it detracts from your argument more than it helps it; people should be allowed to argue because discussion is the only way that consensus can be made.

Actually you didn’t clear up a damn thing… The death of this site will come from the same reason that it came the first time when QCNN was formed, Overmoderation. Its not like I am asking you to do more work, I am infact asking you to do nearly nothing at all on this section of the board.

Its nice to think that but a valid reason should be given for any locked post and short of extreme circumstances moderators should not be allowed to edit posts either.

Let me explain the masta thing. I started calling him that pretty much the same time as he started to refer to himself as QCDN’s Harvey Dent. I call him that because he seems to have the “I am going to save everyone by telling them what they can and cannot post” mentality. I personally do not want a babysitter. They can argue that certain misc details are trash all day long but truthfully every word is valuable to an argument even the title. If I say fuck too many times in an argument people are going to assume that I am a jackass (maybe that is my intention), if I talk in a condescending tone people are going to thing that I am out of touch with the common member… Any editing detracts.

Yes in the last year the staff has gone a long way towards pissing a lot of members off.

It seems as of late that the mods on this site are on a power trip and doing very little to actually save the site. The rules have changed and the posting on the site has been negatively affected. In the past there was never a time where we could go 2 or 3 days without a post on a general board let alone the flameboard. It is not because people don’t have things to post it is because for the most part anything that is worth flaming about is going to get someone put on read only. Several times I have typed up a response to a flame only to read it and say… eh why bother posting it… its only going to get deleted.

You can cherrypick statistics if you want but the truth is that this site as well as the game is dieing… the only reason that we have nearly as many users as we did the year before is our influx of server transfer people and the fact that for the most part even people who do not play on our server anymore still post on this site regularly.

Truthfully I like what Reeve is doing with the site for the most part... he hardly every posts or edits other people’s posts. Too bad the rest of the mod staff doesn’t follow his example.

I guess maybe I'm confused with those whole section. I don't think we're trying to hide behind a staff decision and make us look like heros? Do you have an example of this? If you are referring to the video game forums...well...the mod who was in charge of them did have the balls to do what he had to get them back.

What phraust is referring to is the fact that everytime there is a controversy about the policies on the board the knee jerk comment is that it was a staff decision so that no one directly has to take the heat for the decision.

I don’t know if consider myself liberal but I am a libertarian… You take the good with the bad but when you start trying to be a police officer petty offenses start to become major ordeals and the community as a whole is hurt by it. There is sometimes where I read someone’s post and I am like god damn is that person an idiot I cant believe I wasted my time reading that, I wish someone would delete it… but the problem is that things that need protecting most are the things that you typically do not wish to hear. An example is that I do not agree with White Supremacist hate speech but if we stop that what else do we stop. I am reminded of a story that I read when I was little which kinda deal with this sliding line of acceptance called when you give a mouse a cookie. The things may start out as seeming obvious and unimportant but the problem is that before you know it you are agreeing to much more than you had originally anticipated.

Yes I did make that post and to be honest I still think that it was fucking hilarious. Except I don’t think I have ever posted like that I mean last time I checked I was not the one who used the word pwned in my signature. Good luck with being a tool… I fear there is no hope for masta.

Also i like how this flame was 6 pages when i started typing my response and it was reduced to 4 pages.. i sure hope no one thinks what they had to say was important because ... fuck its gone now.
