i need money and thought a good way to get some would be the stroper chyme. i thought to myself it spawns every 12 minutes, and its not to tough, and it drops a payload. sounds like a dandy. so a few LS buds headed there with me to make it a bit more fun. well we wandered around a bit untill a very nice ranger or thf not sure wich (Necrosis i think was his name) helped show me where the spawn points where.

well now that we were in the right spot and al set up to go. we were the only ones in the room so i thought this should be a breeze. well a minute or so before the stroper chyme spawned about 5 people ran into the room. before he even apeared on my screen he was voked. seconds later with him dead on the ground the 5 people all ran off to the other spawn point. this same thing happened a few times and we decided to head out. there was no way i could compete with a voke that happens before the mob even apears on my screen.

as a drk/thf i use stun to pull. my macro looks like

/targetnpc
/ma Stun <t>

i can't think of a faster way to do this. usually i can keep up with a voker but in this instance i was left in the dust. even if i /war i dont think i could get off a voke that fast.

can anyone tell me if theres a secret to this? or better yet. if you've had luck on this i could use the help...

I had the same experience with stroper...

There's a definite delay between the time that folks in Japan see the spawn and the time that we see it.

Two things.

1 - The majority of people camping the Stroper Chyme are JP, and according to others they are closer to the real world server, so they get 1-3 second head start on you. (not sure if this is true, just what i've been told)

2 - It is suspected that quite a few people that camp the Stroper Chyme use voke bots. (again, not posotive, just suspected)

I have camped the Stroper Chyme for probably a total of 10-12 hours, most of it in JP prime time. I have killed the Stroper Chyme about 5-6 times. Not even Chi Blast can beat them in speed. :(

I've tried many things and am still looking for the best.
I have never camped stroper but have camped other NM's before.

I used the following:

/targetnpc (just like your stun macro, but added more)
/ja "Provoke" <t>
/ja "Provoke" <t>
/ja "Provoke" <t>
/ja "Provoke" <t>
/ja "Provoke" <t>

I select a brand new macro page in my menu and
place the above on 1 through 9 on the CNTRL side.

Then, I place a weight (obelisk statue on it's side)
on the left CNTRL key. ( the statue is stone and tall
I just place it on the side to keep CNTRL pressed down.

Then rapidly drum your fingers on the numbers.

I have a post in allakazham somewhere on this.
I was camping Spook and someone was able to get
it before me and Spook was on my side of the Monument.

Conclusion was that my competitor was not using
/targetnpc. The responses were that he was most
likely useing:

CNTRL + J (brings up the Job Abilities menu)
Highlights Provoke (or in your case Stun)
and spamming the ENTER key

It is simpler and seems to work faster.
I tried this while attempting to get Ochioudu's Kote
for my SAM. I failed.
It is faster but also targets wierd things somethings.
then you need to quickly deselect and CNTRL + J again.

Yes, I have actually made the claim several times. I have to /war and spam my voke macro repeatedly at the spawn time. Sometimes I get it, sometimes not. Ill tell you though, when I DO get it, I usually technically have it claimed before it fully appears. The reason you saw them come in just before the spawn was that they will roam between the 2 spawns. It's actually a fun NM to camp. Good luck to you ^^ I know Im like 0/47 on the drop. A thf I know (Jonason) went like 0/114 before he finally got the drop.

I dont know the exact times or anything but I DO know that if you use a macro, you are going to be slower. What I learned way back on Spook was that you just spam the voke or whatever manually. You manually go through the abilities or spells screens and then highlight provoke, stun, etc. Then you just keep pounding the button until you nab something. Dont know how Stroper works...if other things spawn there then this might not work as well. If hes alone then you are golden.

It's odd that you mention 5+ people camping Stroper Chyme. The one time that I killed him, I was the only one in the area. (I was hunting for my RSE with Fellina and Osse). But seriously, we sat around for a while, and watched Stroper squiggle about, then killed him, because he was in the way.

Odd how luck works sometimes, eh?

The spawn time thing comes from packet latency; I know SE once addressed this by making all monsters spawn clamed for a few seconds before allowing people to attack it. Everyone JP and NA complained and they have since removed it.

There is a solution of using scheduled spawning, and I am not sure SE has chosen to use it or not, since I’ve not tested for it. The server sends out spawn information about 3 second ahead of the actually spawn, with a time stamp in it. The client then knows at 11:01:03 to spawn this monster at this location, so that we all see the spawn at the same time. Downside is if you can figure out the games packet structure, you can read the packets ahead of time to know when and where a monster will spawn.

A lot of people scream putting servers in the US will correct the problem, it will not since there will still be a latency problem between the US server and the JP Server. You would have to rewrite the backend of the application to handle every little thing on a schedule, including the spawn times so that both servers can stay in sync. In their current setup all there servers are communicating on a (I would assume) Gigabit Ethernet connection, thus latency is none exists, between each server group.

I can tell you dealing with latency in a virtual real time application are one of the hardest things to predict and compensate for. One thing I have notice is the latency does seem to be getting worse on our server.

there are other creatures that spawn in the 2 areas where the stroper chyme apears. there are 2 Napalms in the room and an Air Elemental. so blind voking could end me fighting those, though they aren't to hard.

i was hoping to be able to sub thf for the treasure hunter but oh well..

There is a 15 minute spawn on Stroper Chyme, I shoud know. I've tried to camp it several times. Each and everytime, even when I thought I might be alone, sure enough right before he spawns a horde of people would come running to the two spawn points.

I have never gotten the stroper chyme and with its quick respawn that angers me. Monks and people with provoke always get it before me, and I use provoke too. There has never been a time I went there where I was the only person camping it. Man, that would be nice though.

You got damn lucky there Fellina.

I would also have to speculate (unproven ofcourse) that a large number of the people that camp it use voke bots.

I may go back to camp it some day, but i'll have to figure out when there's not anyone around first. I swear, I went durring the "non peak hours" once too and there was still 5+ people camping it. For now I give up on Stroper Chyme.

I've killed stroper chyme 15 times so far an I've gotten an Ordelle's chest key and a slime oil... I use the provoke macro:
/targetnpc
/ja"Provoke" <t>

But I've gotten him with flash a few times also. Ecks is kind of right. He has a 12 minute spawn time at each location and the timer starts as soon as the body disappears. The two spawn points are the one room before the zone into La Theine and the staricase above the ledge by the Paladin quest waterfall. Each one of these is on its own timer. The one in the room is easier for someone who can claim fast (the spamming of macroes may cause an unintentional claim) but the staricase depends entirely on luck since it can spawn anywhere on the staircase or below the ledge. I have started using the Ctrl+J thing now tho, way easier.

I need to make money for a Haubergon (sp?), and have thought about camping it several times, but my problem is all the gil sellers and bots in there. It's just rediculous. Before, there would only be maybe 2 or 3 at times, now there's always at least 5. Although, I usually camp it in the one room because it's a little easier.

Yeah, back in the day we actually had problems when the Chyme would go running amok unclaimed through the area we were fighting beetles for RSE keys. Back then we were about 30-32, so it took 3 of us to take him down, and it was a close fight.

Couple weeks later we organized a LS party to camp him (and look for keys between spawns, heh). We had 5 of us watching for him, and were competing with like 3 other campers. Got the spawn probably 7 out of 10 times while we were there, but no drop. We all got sick of it at that point and left.

Now, that was about 2 months ago at least. I can't say what it's like nowadadys, but back then you could go into Ordelle's and see maybe 10 people in zone, tops. I went there to farm shrooms earlier today, there were 30+, and 85% of them were /anon.

So overall, my opinion is that chyme just isn't worth it anymore. 12 minute spwans aside, when you factor in that you're competing with at least 10 other people for the pop, and his drop rate is horrendously low (I've heard 1/100 average) you have an infinitesimal chance of the ring.

Fellina hasn't posted in this thread. That was me, the Mandragora-Crazed Yomi.

Whoops, sorry. Don't know what the heck i was smoking

Yeah, those were the days eh Fell? lol Whenever we'd see Chyme we'd be like

"Geez I hope someone comes along and gets that thing before it aggros us :/"

This is partially true. They are closer but there's know way they have a 1-3 second head start unless you have horribly high ping. In-game type "/tell <me> *PING*" and you'll see two tells pop up, your sending and your receiving. The time it takes between the two is how long it takes the message to go all the way to the server in japan and all the way back to wherever you happen to be. It's less than a second usually so the japanese have about a half a second head start on you. It's still a really big advantage if the japanese person is paying a lot of attention though.

Camping stroper sucks. I've probably killed thirty of them just trying to get chest keys, and all I get is nothing. Bastard slime things. Let the Japanese campers have them.

Yeah, personally my 'ping time' as you've called it [never heard it been referred to as that ^^;;] is pretty standard, about 1/2 to 1/3 of a second as you already said. But i've seen people with a good 2 second 'ping time', and heard of someone with a 3 second one.

Unfortunately for me, it seems like every JP player camping the Stroper Chyme knows how to take advantage of it though. :( I would get it targeted, and voke/chi blast it, before it was ever purple; but in the end they always got it right after my first or second attempt to voke/chi blast. *sigh* It alway said it was claimed, when it wasn't and the others hadn't even voked yet. I suppose it's just the lag; but it gets quite annoying, especially since i actually need the rings to use (well, snipers rings anyway). But I do understand that the high levels need to make money too; just gets frustrating, as i've said. Forgive the mild rant, please. ^^
