All right.. I just had my first Campaign experience. And all I have to say is I hate it from what I've seen so far.
I go in as my WHM - therefore, my place would be to make sure those who need healed get such done. However, with any logic behind it, you would believe those around would also recognize I am there doing such - and therefore keep me alive and well so I may do the same in return for them.
Not from what it appears to me. I was blatantly allowed to be smacked around by various Yagudo who turned feather to those hitting them, in favor of killing me. Did said people pull the Yagudos off of me with spells or JAs? No, they did not. I can understand lag or the like - but when there's no.. order behind things, I have to just say 'no thanks' to such things. That's pretty well why I gave up Besieged. In all honesty, I like the concept of both Campaign and Besieged - but when it gets to the point where healers can't do their jobs properly due to lack of protection from their party members and allies, the functionality of things begins to drop.
I am willing to give it a few more tries, but if it's still like this everytime, I will just have to pass up Campaign in favor of more traditional methods of experience - even if it means missing certain pieces of equipment or items.
Anyone have any advice or the such for me on this, though, that I might be able to better handle this in hopes of continuing it?

Heal smart?

I just don't mind it so much, I get killed, I reraise and then i go heal in a corner and get my HP/MP up and do it again. After all we get 10% points for HP lost lol, that's my little condolence.

Probably depends on the number of players vs number of mobs. If you have more mobs than players, you're pretty sure to go down.

Club out, heal others WHEN possible but always put yourself first, melee, buff up, buff up NPCs, cure NPCs, melee melee melee, use job abilities.

There will never be order in Besieged/Campaign. The effort is not worth it so no one would do it, except for the "Campaign Linkshells" that exist and even then the "order" is so petty and the impact is so low no one would do it.

Maybe if you DID lose EXP then yeah but otherwise, you'll have to adapt and just fend for yourself and don't expect others to help you. When others do help, it's a blessing, but don't depend on it. I love campaign. Especially when a boss shows up, I just throw my body at it and rack up 2500~ damage on myself, die, reraise, and just go poke the lesser mobs.

TIP: You get EXP for getting hurt. Yay /emo!

have to understand it's also the reason why tank jobs or pseudo tank jobs use healing subs nowadays in campaign because they don't have reliable healers or jobs to heal them on so they wont sub voke or are careful to use abilities.

it sounds like you need to experience more than just one perspective most of the time it's half order half chaos but there is a sort of balance in there and in some rare circumstances....teamwork but it takes some initiation to get that started.

It always feels redundant when I shout(well used to before update) that I'm kiting so and so to npcs, it'd take people some deaths to realize that it's better to move nms to npcs instead of fighting it head on.

Bust out your whm hauby and smack things around.
Or put together a group of friends to campaign together. That's always fun, esp. when there's a proper tank.

I've gotten to the point where I only campaign with LS mates, or people on my friend list. I play dancer, and in order for me to get the most points possible I need people in a party that I can heal. Usually this involves a DD job or 5 that can help me out if I pull hate, which I do.....a lot....

Whenever I go to campaign as pld, I go out of my way to ensure the mob I'm attacking is focused on me. Having people toss the occasional cure on me helps a tonne. And if it goes for the mages, I'll get it off if I can. I'm there to tank, that's my job.

As whm however, I'm focused on myself and not dying. Stoneskin and Blink are kept up at all times, as is RR. I'll cure bomb people and npc's just fine, and spam buffs on the melees (every melee loves a free haste). And if I die? ah well, I just got some extra xp from the dmg taken, and I'll reraise when its safe, and start the cycle over. You must of had a bad experience, they are not all like that.

Of course, to make campaign even more fun, randomly invite some people so you have a mixed assortment of jobs. I've always had a blast in campaign, but its even better with just even 1 extra partied player.

Also, if there are allied npc's just hanging around the battlefield and a regular group of campaign mobs come for you? Run it past them, and hope they pull a few off. Saved my ass a few times.

After reading through some things, after finally waking up today (along with a headache due to sleeping too much), I must admit I'm a little disappointed that there is any neglect for those healing. However, after pondering things a bit last night, I admit I was a bit hasty in going in - as was the person I was with as well. From the sounds of what you are all saying, some time should be taken to prepare before doing anything major to assist others.
As for what to do.. well, yes, I pretty much only healed others last night. As for having a Reverend's Mail, unfortunately, I don't have one and the only club I have of any decency is my Darksteel Maul.
And next time, I'll plan on only working with people I know (i.e. friends and LS members) to hopefully make sure I don't die like before. And probably only help them unless it won't get me anywhere. Last night's post was a bit of a awkward one, since I'm not usually that erked - but the past few days haven't been good to me. Anyway, off that subject. Thanks for the input, but any other advice on how to Campaign would be lovely (i.e. where to fight, what to wear as my job, etc etc).

Rev Mail is utter garbage. Even if you have one, don't ever use it. Just melee in your tunic for the refresh effect. DS Maul is just fine for Campaign, though if you aren't capped in club you might have a bit of acc issues. Not really sure about that unless your club skill is just insanely low but there are other cheap +acc pieces you could get or melee gear like o.hat, pcc/c.chain, etc too.

have to get use to that kind of situation in Campaign battle, since healing another doesnt give more point than meleeing, most mages spend their time meleeing, which cause the melee dont want to take hate off another person especially when they are dying too, since there are good chance they wont get cure from the mage that they try to save.

ohoh time for my campaign rant

I don't like campaign, no matter what I come as, even only fighting mobs that already have people fighting them I tank, I come blm and give up trying to nuke and decide I'll just do blm/nin dualwielding clubs and meleeing, that shouldn't pull hate, not even using my best weapon but I'm wrong and still I pull hate, I come as lvl 60 thf, I pull hate. campaign is a massive gimp fest full of morons MPKing everyone and I don't like it. I go for iron ram gear for my pld mostly but also so my blm doesn't need to manaburn which is about equally bad just from how brain numbingly boring it gets but I really have grown to dislike campaign and am still deciding if I want to keep from losing my medal next week or not.

I guess the main problem with campaign is there's no benefit for actually doing beyond gimp amounts of work due to caps in how much exp they give you so you sit there being gimp and so does everyone else and I just don't like that, I like to try my best but my blm doesn't tend to do well tanking and it just gets anoying and stupid I shouldn't be meleeing on blm imo but even then I'm still pulling hate so wtf. its not so bad on my other jobs since they deal with tanking better but they are much less likely to need buffer.

My advice, set yourself up to be versatile. On BLU, I tend to go /DNC, because it offers me more options and better survivability then /NIN. On BLM I go /SCH, for MP efficiency and the ability to 1/2 the casting time (and recast) on sleep spells (taking my enfeebling magic to B skill doesn't hurt for that either). Basically, with some jobs at least, try bringing something to the table you normally don't, in this case I would say dmg. I personally love campaign because it is a very good trial and error enviornment.

This has been hashed and rehashed so many times:
The inequity of point distribution for tasks performed.
The damage output/intake blah blah blah.

Since the beginning it didn't take mages long to realize they were being totally shafted by the Campaign system, so, we, for the most part, stopped being back line jobs. This in turn caused a shift in how the melee played. They started subbing whm then later dnc to compensate for lack of curing.

SE's fix was to add NPCs to take up the slack in curing, but, those were soon found to be unreliable and, to me, it seems they have a smaller mp pool than a galka. I know there are a lot of variables to calculate exp/an earned, but it would've been much simpler and made more sense(to me anyway), if say a whm's exp were based on how much hp was cured and status ailments removed, for blm, how much damage they did per spell etc.

Ah well, @ the OP, don't give up on it, you just need to change your play style to better suit campaign.

As for besieged, I thought that was just for skill up >.> lol

When you go to campaign battles, your objective is to get experience and stay alive. Heal others, but only if there are other people that have hate on the mobs they're fighting. You don't want to have a train come after you, because no one else will help you because they will die if they do.

I personally always go as some melee job with /dnc sub. It's easier to get more experience when you do damage with a side of heals.

In my opinion, the best way to enjoy campaign battle is through teamwork and a party. Everytime I go out and do campaign battle, I team up with an LS friend or I ask people if they want to make a Campaign Battle party. If they say no, just move onto the next person and ask them. (Just make sure you don't ask the people that are specifically seeking for an EXP party or Merit party(It usually says in their /seacom)) Theres alot of people out there that do Campaign Battle extensively and wouldnt mind forming a party with you. (Specifically jobs that get shitted out of exp parties at the later lvls, for example Paladins, Dancers, Thieves, Black Mages, etc)

Being in a party enhances your rate of survivabilty, since everyone in the party is looking out for each other.

I have done a lot of campaigns and my personal experience is that PLD/DNC is by far the best job you can use. Individual mobs are no problem and you can maximize the amount of xp received. Consider this if you play PLD you can receive xp in multiple ways such as Magical and Physical Damage Taken, Curing, Status Removal, Enhancing magic, Rasing, and Enfeebling. With a long battle you can potentially max out all of the categories. (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Campaign:_Experience_Point_Calculation_Guide) I rarely if ever get a chance to party with anyone since most of the people I used to know are gone from the game so being able to solo is critical for me. I tend to average around 2,200 to 3,400 xp form battles with this combo and have found that I require little support from others.

Campaign is all about multitasking and being able to fulfill many roles really is the key to getting the most out of the event. Well thats just my 2 cents.

That campaign calculation is severely outdated.

I go WHM/NIN with genbus shield and I can tank and solo a lot of stuff.
