What the hell? I baught a simple little fish. I forget what it was called, it's a tiny little chubby one so I named it porker. I fed it twice today, once in the afternoon and once in the evening. I kept it in room tempature water and when I went to check on it it's floating side ways. The water now is now cold.

It has to be either the tempature of the water or the food, I gave it a pinch each time. Maybe I just gave to much?

This sucks. Anyone know anything about fish?

Poor Porker...

Could be many different things. It could be the temperature. If it changes to rapidly, the fish basically goes into shock and dies. It could be the food. Some fish only need to eat once a day, at least all the ones I have ever had. It could be the acid level of the water was too high for it. Did it have a filter?

If I recall correctly a fish will not over eat to that point. It knows when to stop eating. A perfect example is how I over fed my fish as a kid. At the end of the week, I'd end up cleanin' more food than poop. If you only had it for that short period of time, my guess is that you didn't properly set his body up to match the water temp. Before you put the fish into his new home, you leave it in the bag to sit in the water that's suppose to be set as close to the optimal temp. for the fish. With this it'll gradually adapt to any changes in temp. the new water may have. In short, it wont go into shock over a complete change. There is also the possibility, though be it low, that the water you used was not suitable for the fish, and most fish. Tap can be dangerous to fish. However, there are certain ways to eliminate that.

If you plan on havin' fish as pets know this, they are everything but simple. Imo, keepin' a dog or a cat doesn't even compare to the care of a fish.

Fuckin' Wal-Mart fish...

Did you just get the fish and dump it in a bowl?? If so it probably died from shock. The store will usually put water from the tank that the fish has been swimming in, in the bag with the fish. What you want to do when you get home, is jut float that bag in the bowl for a few hours. The water in the bag will slowly match the temp of the water in the bowl, allowing the fish to get used to it, at which point you can open the bag and dump the fish in the bowl.

You probably murdered that poor little piece of suishi!

Friend of mind had this Goldfish for 5 years. It was huge.

One day i went over to her place and she was cleaning out the tank, she was using some harsh cleaning materials. It might have been Mr. Clean, i can't quite remember. Long story short, the fish died the same day it went back into the tank. Must have been poisoned.

Walmart fish, feh... lol Sorry about the lil guy =(

Goldfish will eat until they die, they are that stupid. Was it a Moor fish? It's a type of goldfish that is fat with bug eyes but they also have hybrid fish now that you can't find in the wild with a low survivability rate. What colour was it?

Well the plus side is that you can just toss it in the toilet and FLUSH. Unless you want to give it a proper burial by digging a hole and putting it in a shoebox for a coffin.

sometimes they just die, its that simple, the temperature couldve been perfect and the food couldve been perfect...

The thing that kills store bought fish more than anything? The chemistry of the water...

I had a small aquarium that got displaced as my apartment went under renovation, the fish got fed but the filter couldnt be plugged in for a couple of months... they were fine though..

Flash forward to 2 weeks age, plugged the filter in and changed the water... both fish died, they couldnt handle the sudden transition from dirty water to clean water.

Its the same reason why the goldfish you win with the pingpong balls at the carnival always survive the trip home but die within a day of reaching thier new home.

Then it's ghost will haunt your toilet bowl, and THAT'S a bitch to fix.

If you still have the receipt, you can take him back for an exchange. A lot of pet areas in stores like Wal-Mart will not properly take care of their aquariums so he might have had Ick (fish fungus disease that can be fatal). I worked in a similar place to Wal-Mart (except not evil) and they were always very understanding about that but never sold the fish when Ick was found.

I'm sorry about your friend D:

It wasn't from Wal-Mart it was from a little fish store at the corner. I shouldn't say little actually, they had Sharks in there, it was awesome. But yes, I did dump it in a bowl, three times. ; ; I had nothing to put it in at first so I got a see through vase. I dumped it in there slowly and then fed it a little. I realized I put to much food so I got a big salad bowl and scooped the fish out and put it in there.... with my hand. I had nothing eles! I then fed it some more and realized there was to much in that bowl too, so I put it back in the vase to clean out the salad bowl. I tried to keep it at room tempature the whole time.

After all that was done, I went back to check on it a few hours later and it looked like it was sleeping. I poked Porker and it didn't move... Damnit.

I felt the water and it was cold... even though when I put it in it was warm. It was still swimming around after it was poored back and fourth so I think it was to much food. OH yeah, I fed it three times not two.... to much love I guess.

It's orange and whitish, really beautiful. It's probably about an inch across and wide.

I had my Beta fish Evan for 6years until he died two weeks ago.

When you put it into a new bowl/change the water, you should let the water sit out for a day or so, to allow it to evaporate to distill it, and reach room temperature. Then pour it in about half way, add the fish with its own water, and then top it off.

RIP Porker.

Poor guy.

If we didn't have The Evil Cat Trio from Hell, I would like to have fish. Or Sea Monkeys!

If you decide to try again, I'm sure the pet shop owner can explain how much food and proper water temperature, also if you'll need some kind of filter to get chlorine out of the water or whatever. It sounds like a nice shop.

They can also go into shock from the change in water temp/ph. You're supposed to leave it in the bag and float it on the water for about an hour, then slowly let the tank water into the bag.

I once had 5 goldfish and I didn't feel like getting the stuff to feed them so I just poured half of the box of food in. As you would imagine, they all died.

Reminds me of that one Dexter's Lab episode.

They told Deedee to flush the dead fish, but she never did :<

And then the ghost fish tried to suck them into the toilet

Good times...
