My freaking school

I see two things happening as a result of this when combined with the Va. Tech shootings. 1) More visible armed security guards on college campuses all across America and 2) More and more students carrying weapons of some kind for "safety." Both of which will only increase the ridiculous level of fear and paranoia in this country and neither of which actually do anything to works towards a solution of the problem.

I don't agree with this at all. When I went to school at University of Hawaii the security guards did not carry guns and that was very comforting to students there. I personally know two girls that were beaten by the UH security. I thank God that they did not carry guns that night and continue to pray that UH never passes a rule that will allow them to. Maybe it's the booze talking but guns will not be able to solve the problems on college campus' or even just walking the streets at night. I've been followed at night, I know what it's like to have someone over your shoulder when you are just trying to go home. Guns will not solve this issue of safety or secuity. It's odd, but on islands murder was almost unheard of, wereas suicide was very common. I'm not promoting this fact or anything, this is just what I have seen from my studies of Japan and time in Hawaii. Why is that an island would have less murders than most other places? Why is it that in order for people to feel more safe they think they have to buy guns? Be smart about where you live, about your security systems, about the people you know. Ok, I'm done now. Drunk Realia out.

Blah blah blah. News blames video games. Bible huggers blame faggots. What the fuck happened to this world.

It was on Valentine's Day, no?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the shooter was bullied in school for being a nerd. He was in Chess club, and was an outstanding student. I'll throw out a guess and say that he was also taking anti-depressives that he recently stopped taking, and something happened on Valentine's Day in the school that he remembered, and decided to go there and kill people.

Like a lot of others with deep mental health problems and depressions - suiciders especially - show no evidence of the state they're in. They keep everything inside them until it boils over.

7 dead is 7 to many. I personally take pity on the gunman.

I totally don't know what you're trying to say. I was not saying I wanted to see more than 7 dead. In fact, I didn't even comment on the number of people that did die. I only addressed the people attempting to turn this into a political issue.

I think you misinterpreted my meaning.

Oh no i wasn't attacking with you i was agreeing with you. You said even thought not many died it is still depressing. I was referring to how even though ONLY 7 died, that is still 7 to many.

Oh yes, that indeed =(.

Rumor has it that Cole Hall, the building where the shootings took place, will be closed down permanently.

Good choice NIU.

I'm missing something but why was that good of them, shut it down for a few weeks then get it back on track yeah, but doesn't that just short the campus of one building to use for classes?

Would you want to go back to the classroom where you saw 5 of your fellow students get shot? Or the classroom that was once smeared in blood?

I don't think so. :\

EDIT: I see what you're saying. Fortunately, it was a 3pm class so not a really busy time. They'll relocate the classrooms somewhere else. Cole Hall only had two giant lecture halls. So the school is only missing two rooms.

Ah yea, I suppose if it were larger that would be a bit uneconomic. If it is only 2 rooms, hopefully they can set up a nice memorial or something.
