Good day All.
This is my first posting to QCDN, since looks like Quetz. VnBoards have all but become a forum graveyard.

Anyways - I just wanted to ignite a little fire about how FFXI, one of the biggest time sinks I've ever been a part of, is not taking time out of my life, but the other way around. How can this be?

Priorities.

Sure, I could stay in and train goblins all night long; OR, I could drink beer with friends and watch the home hockey team try to win the Stanley Cup.

Time is the key concern when it comes to these sorts of games. The only time I have left to play is when I sleep, and I don't level too fast when I'm dreaming of dancing watermelons and teenage alcoholic sociopaths.

Does anyone else find themselves in this pickle of a jam?

hahahah I know your pain man . . .

our LS Mates are speeding on past us as we spend all this time under that ball of gas in the sky

but yeah the whole new job no more school thing did me in >.<

Time Sinker

I am between job and school (returning to school next fall), and I really enjoyed spending 8 to 10 hours a day playing right now. I know I have to really cut it down after I start school again. The withdraw is going to be very painful indeed. One thing I have noticed is that all of the guides / howtos / and information out there tends to be geared towards frequent players. I would love to see a guide that talks about how someone who can not effort to spend that many hours each day to do well in this game. :P .

I'd love to see a MMO that is geared toward players who are unable or refuse to sign their life away. ;)

There are MMO's out there like that. IMO they arent as fun as FFXI though.

But, if you wanna know a couple right now, theres Planetside (more of a FPS game, but still a MMO you can pop in play for a while with others and leave when you need to) and a newer game that I think is still in BETA testing right now, dont remember, its called Guild Wars (Its a fantasy MMO, not quite like your typical fantasy mmo though. Its suppose to be a game where you can pop in, do a few missions if you want, or maybe do other stuff and hop out when you need to). I dont know too much about Guild Wars, but i do know there wont be a monthly fee.

Also there's City of Heroes out there too, its.. what it sounds like. You play a hero, you pick your powers and lvl up like most other mmo's. But its more fast paced I think. I've played it, still have an account, but dont play it much. The game was fun at first, but ive slowly stopped playing. Its soley mission based gameplay. There really isnt much else after the initial cool factor fades away.

Thats why I stick with FFXI. There's always something to do here and the world is just so darn pretty. :D

PUZZLE PIRATES!
Awesome game and as long as your not looking for major promotions it's cool enough to talk like a pirate all day, lose a limb in battle, and just buy cool clothes. Doesn't require too much of a commitment and it's a blast. I'd be playing that if I wasn't so into FFXI

Let's see ..., Planetside ..., well, I will pay people to shoot at me in Planetside, if I could just find someone, anyone, really anyone to even offer payment too. PS is empty.

GuildWars, this one does look promising, I did play the E3 demo for a few days, will try to get into beta when the time comes.

City of Heros, can you say FUN!?! OMG I love the character creation, those stilettos are just plain awesome, unfortunately the lack of variety makes CoH boring after the first couple weeks or so, I did enjoy the time, and I didn't regret spending 50 bucks on it.

I have tried many things, and so far I really only have found EQ to be accomodating to part time players, and that only since LDoN came out. For the most part I can find a group within minutes, play 45 minutes, actually get something done and log off. Of course I did spend a few years of leveling prior to that, lol.

so yea - when I approved this post, I didn't realize I'd be approving one of the worst necros in QCDN history.

yay for no OP dates on existing threads lol
