This game, is very addicting, as many of you know. However, it's strongly cutting into my personal life, and my family and friends are seeing it, as am I. I'm not paying attention to my family, getting lower grades in school, slacking on my part time job, etc.

I feel that this game requires too much time for anyone to literally be able to give without any personal loss.

As far as that goes, I'm considering quitting, not to WoW, not to EQ2, just quitting online gaming period. It's hurting my personal life and me very badly.

I may quit, or I may just severely lower my playing time, but I just feel that the time this game requires to get anywhere is totally outlandish.

yup your right dude these games are for ppl with alot of time on there hands if u wanna get anywhere good.

my advice is if you are being effected by maybe this game isn't for you

I sure wouldn't have played it if i knew it was gonna be this longwinded
from the start lol

I'd say take a long break for the time or put a type of restriction on it - Maybe 4 hours a day per weekend-day, and try to avoid it altogether on weekdays until things get better for you, perhaps? I dunno...would hate to see ya quit.

I think it is how you manage your time.

I only play a few times a week...and I get shit done when I need to. *A helpful LS and maybe a static or 2 is all you really need. When I play I know exactly where i am going, what I am doing and <usually> who with. I know that I have limited amount of game time because I have so much going on in Real Life - and I never sacrifice real life stuff for gaming....so I post on here, and in my LS forums - and schedule time to do the important things on the days I do get to log on.

It takes a bit of scheduling, but you will get used to it...and it will be smooooth sailing (mostly) ;) from there on in.

Just my opinion <3

I've got an idea...SLOW DOWN!

Take your time with this game and it shouldn't encroach on your life. I find the only thing that this game has completely destroyed in my life is my desire to draw, channel surfing and playing my other games. I still go out with friends just as often, hell I've even made more real life friends through this game.

If this game is ruining your social life you're playing too often...who cares if you can only squeeze in 2 hours a week? But if you can't keep your priorities straight, IE Friends/Family > FFXI, you probably should give it up. :)

I can tell you from expeiance. This game almost caused me to have a divorce with my wife. Yea, it was that bad and a video game should never give you this many problems....its just silly. So I quit.

Another amazing thing happened then....I found out how truly addicted to this game I was by how depressed I had become. Again, I could never believe a game would bring this out in me.

So, I made a major compromise with my wife and I am back in the game as of a few days ago. My playing time is a bit constrictive but everything works out perfectly. I take care of my RL priorties first...then, my free time, I play FFXI. I think if you worked out something like that it would help ALOT. Trust me >.o

Yeah, just play less often, don't outright quit.

The only things I don't get to do much are play other games and watch TV/movies (which has actually saved me money in the long run). Well, and I've stayed home instead of going to a friend's house a few times. My real life hasn't changed much, I think. Well, my school grades aren't very good, and I've been slacking on homework... like I said, my life hasn't changed much (always been a slacker when it comes to work :P )

Edit: Hey, why is this on the flameboard? >.>

Just play when you can. I'm sure it's not hard to find the solution in your heart as to when you are playing too much. Listen to your instincts, and if that doesn't work, make a formal schedule. No shame in that...Only in not doing something about it. If that doesn't work, at least you've recognized the adiction, and you should walk away.

Just seems like you need to adhere to a structure.
Some people can't handle drugs either. Addiction is addiction.
At least you know it's an issue. Try controlling it first.

I've found that it isn't so much an addiction to the game, as it is an addiction to the social environment. I know I could do easily without the game should I need to, but it's the people I play with that keep me playing. I'm sure a few people lurking here can tell you when my account is down I spend hours on end chatting to my game buddies through IM programs and whatnot, it may not quite be as fun as taking on a dragon with them, but it's still just as addicting. Speaking of which......

Brin! Get on yahoo! XD

Have children.

When they go to bed, you cant go out, so your choices are limited to veggin in front of the TV or veggin in front of FF. I also have a large TV with split screen, so when I am playing before nightfall, I am usually on the left half while the wiggles are on the right.

I have a fugly troll which makes teh babiez.

Can I get some assistance with this, Big Al?! RAWRRRRR

Assistance? No.

Practice partner? <All Right!> <You can have this>

My husband and I started having more quarrels over the game so we sat down and worked out a compromise. I'll admit at first it was hard for me to give up gaming time...but truth be told...I am actually relieved in some ways. I was getting to the point of exhaustion trying to fit real life in around the game. I can honestly say I'd let my priorities start to slide...my family is happier...kids grades are better and I make the best of my playing time now.
