Here is what I got from Salvage.

You need to have Mission 18+ of Toau to get access.
ALL of your equipment, job abilities, sub jobs, etc. are locked at the beginning.

MNKS are great to kill mobs at the beginning. The mobs are really weak at first, but you need H2H to kill them to get anything unlocked.

My allianced wiped and we barely got anywhere. I would recommend lots of hi-potions, reraise items, and sneak and invis meds. This would probably helped us out alot more.

What you guys will want to know from Salvage.
You start no JA no subjob no weapon or equip reduce mp and hp all stats-30
inability to cast spells.

The only job that can really do damage at start is MNK

Crawlers will drop items that takeaway the -30 to attributes of the specified type it will say.

Bombs drop items that will let you use weapon subjobs Max MP up ect

Bombs do not drop items if they self destruct so kill fast

There are at least 3 different levels each one harder then last

the 1st level has Bombs Crawlers (easy) Trolls Scorps (harder)

2nd level has Flans so blms need inability to cast spells before coming here
also has trolls and scorps possibly more.

3rd level has trolls noone made it far into this level.

After every kill a coffer will spawn containing about 6 items

MAKE SURE TO GIVE MONKS HP ITEMS. You will need them alive.

Dusty Potion - restores 300 HP
Strange Milk- Gives you Regen effect
Bottle of Vira's liquid or something like that - erases status ailment on you. i.e. burn slow ect.

Bombs cast lots of magic Firaga 2 but its weak, Flare just run away if its targeting you, Fire 2 again weak, Burn, Enfire, Blaze Spikes

GL all

lol, yeah, it's kind of annoying but different and fun. I started to put this together about 5-6 hrs ago, took us a few hours to get everyone and CSs and stuff, but the key is to have as many items as you can when you start.

This is probably why assaults give us many hi-pots, reraisers and ethers to help with Salvage since SE planned for this.

The only thing that I think SE should change with Salvage is to randomly per person entering, remove at least one of the restrictions so each person has something to help them a bit.

Otherwise this was kind of a pain, especially with the bombs and mnk getting the hate and almost slaughtered.

Thats in Bhaflau remnants. I was just giving them an idea of Salvage in general.

I would think that PUP would be good at the start as well.

Except that it's PUP...

PUP is awesome if you know how to play it :(
Thats the same line that holds back thf drk drg ect ect vs wars and mnks.
"If you know how to play it."
If it is not idiot proof the job tends to be perceived as weaker from A, seeing said idiots on a job where it affects it badly,B, not seeing enough people who do know how to play it.
The fact that pup does need its upgrades and/or if they showup noone can tell that they exist outside of pups doesnt help either.

Well, SE said that there will be "Up to 20 limitations". And you only tried Bhaflau, right?

So I'd guess all remenant areas have different limitations. So perhaps Bhaflau is the hardest one :p

You do realize the gap between PUP and MNK, SAM, and NIN doesn't close if both the PUP or either of those three jobs have that set, right?

PUP falls behind early on in Salvage due to the lack of Automaton usage. You'd need the Cell that unlocks Abilities and Weaponskills to deploy it. But then a Monk could get their Abilities and Weaponskills unlocked as well. You'd also be unable to equip an Animator without the Ranged item Cell, decreasing the effectiveness of the automaton as well. Granted, PUP would still be loads better than Warrior, Thief, or Ninja before gear starts to get unlocked.

BTW, bring a Hi-Potion tank. Once you unlock your back and waist slot, you're basically invincible on the first floor since the mobs hit so weakly.

While PUP will suck in Salvage probably, they CAN be good in a exp party if played correctly. People usually just look at the PUP's damage, and doesn't add the automaton damage on top of his.

Well, yeah, just like people don't look at familiar damage for Beastmaster.

And this will never change.

If you're not pulling out omgwtfdmg by yourself, people aren't going to recognize. That's why people love me (in my LS's) as a blm and I don't get the time of day in endgame as a bst.

To be fair though, the Wyverns damage isn't as great as familiars or automatons. But it has vastly larger utility.

I wouldn't bet on it.
War's 210 skill vs Pup's 225...
With traits and abilities my guess is war will out-dd the pup anyhoo.
And, if we wanna have fun and put gear on them...

The thing is that I dont think many war's are as stupid as I am with my skills though.
But finally my skillups pay off :P
Now I'm just waiting for the events where you're only allowed to use staff, club, dagger or... :P

The difference is that DRG's do more damage then the PUP, and the DRG's Wyvern ignores DEF :p
