Out of real life's reach...
They have been playing things like Lineage 2 and WoW and are starting to get a lil tired of it, since its... well boring would be the best word to use.

So now, they have asked me, how it really is in FFXI.
What did I tell them?

I told them that they wouldent find any better mmorpg on the market atm, if only they had the time to invest in it.

So now a new question have been brought up. They live together, use each their computer, so thats all good.
But would they then need to buy 2 copy's of the game, in order to play at same time, and not just 1 copy and make 2 handles?

It is possible to create up to 64 handles I think. So in theory, it should be possible for 2 people to play with 1 copy of the game. But in theory only.

Anyone know if this really is possible, or 2 copy's is needed?

Thanks.

They would need two copies of the game to play together.
They'd only need one set of install discs, but would each need key codes for POL FFXI RoZ CoP Etc.

As I recall, they'd need to have two copies, or at least two separate accounts, even separate handles don't let you log in at the same time under the same POL ID#, I've tried this with my mule being on a different handle than my main.

Edit: I type too slow, Devi just beat me to it ^^;

I'll be totally honest here. If someone asked me if they should buy FFXI or not I'd tell them to stay as far away as humanly possible, it grips you like a pitbull and never lets go.

I don't believe that those who played WoW, and were not addicted to FFXI prior to playing WoW or L2, would be able to enjoy FFXI. Players will be too conditioned to WoW/L2 like games and will hate the FFXI interface, combat system, crafting system, and "immersion" (i.e. shops closed at certain times).

Then again, you can pick up FFXI Collection for like $25 and try it out for a month.

I agree with Sculli here. FFXI might seem like a big dissapointment here. The UI isnt near as complex and the fights are much slower. If you played WoW first and have played it for awhile.. converting to FFXI will be tough. I have played WoW and got to lvl 60 but have came back to FFXI since it was my first MMORPG.

If this was the jerry springer forum the content of the post would be way different with this same title...

You people are mostly right.

I played Lineage 2 before I ever tried any of the FF series.

Then my friend got me to try out FF7, and I've been hooked on the serie ever since, thanks to all the good stories.

And thats what is lacking in Lineage and WoW. Sure, WoW got a background story, but nothing story based to follow ingame, like FFXI.

Lineage 2 is..... grinding game? Seems like people do nothing but EXP in that game, and maybe go kill a uber mob somewhere.
My sisters BF been playing L2 for about 2 years, and he is yet to reach max lvl.

But in the end, I guess it all come down to peoples different taste.
I hope I can get them to join thu. I think I am the only player from Denmark on this server.

LOOOOOL!

Maybe you could explain to them the level of actualy commitment peopele put into this game. Let them know what's up with it.
Genkis, money troubles, quests, fame, gear, sub jobs etc (as neither game they play has a support job option, not 100% on L2 though).
It's pretty dauting to start up this game this far along in it's "life cycle".

Also, if they do decide to play, tell them about jobs etc, it's easier to lvl up if you know what you want to do. (And tell them to sell noob crystals, cause there's decent moneis there) ^^V

Yeah, gonna try explain them about the contents of this game.
EXP pting is only a small part of it, where in WoW and L2 its pretty much thé part of the game.

All I seem to do is exp. Then again I need Shadow Lord killing which should be good fun.

heh .. i was on the opposite side of this. FFXI was all but the first MMO i took seriously enough to plug alot of time into. After two years i asked around about a couple games (WoW and L2 specifically, also spent some time goofing off with EVE) basicly after i heard "it's not like bashing your face into a brick wall, whilst being ridiculed by 2nd graders." i was gone.

FF left it's golden age behind shortly around the time of CoP, imho.

But hey .. if masochism is their thing tell em to jump in head first. ;)

well, cel and me had the same problem with the handles
first we played with one
then we bought a second Pc and wanted to play together
the problem is you need a new reg code to make a new handle so that you can play together at the same time

I had to buy another FFXI

Played EQ,EQ2,WoW,GW,CoH,iRO & reguardless of the UI & combat system (I think EQ2 has the best), I still give all em up & play FFXI. Why you may ask?... Simple...

Pros:
- FFXI has has the best storyline which you feel apart of due to cutscenes (EQ & EQ2 story is weak & not backed up with missions, quests or cutscenes. iRO & CoH has no story.).
- Doesn't use very noticeable polygonal character models like GW & WoW (although some armor pieces for knees & shoulders look paper-thin).
- 3D (unlike iRO).
- Loads of content (unlike iRO, GW & CoH).
- Anime-ish style character graphics.
- Mithra (although manthra would be nice & both EQ & EQ2 already sport their own cat-race).
- Multiple linkshells (guilds), which allows you to get more accomplished having seperate shells for different purposes (dynamis, Gods, HNM, etc.).
- Play w/other countries such as Japan.
- Multi-platform (PC,PS2/PS3,XBox360).
- Best at creating that feeling of awe as you enter the game as a noob. (::Sigh:: I remember beginning in bastok, I explored every part of it & spoke w/every NPC before embarking outside. OMG a turtle man, hmm he oughtta be some decent exp since hunting 2-legged usual is good for that... <whaps a quadav across the head agroing the whole camp> <runs like mad> ahhhhhhh!)
- No corpse runs when you die.
- No repairing gear.
- Fishing is a game now.
- Multiple Jobs but same character.
- More item storage with 2 mules for the same price of some other mmorpgs w/item delivery system.

Cons:
- For PC users the way the mouse was setup blows, it shoulda been setup like EQ,EQ2,WoW,GW or CoH has it (the normal way like First-Person Shooter games use it).
- PS2 or XBox360 users are screwed w/o a router & a PC to look up linkshell websites, Allakhazam, QCDN, etc.
- No Jumping, Flying or Swimming.
- Low # of armor & weapon models that just get reused w/diff. colors.
- Poor UI: 1) Can't create seperate chat windows. 2) No precreated Spell & Ability Buttons/Icons. 3) No Macro/Spell slot bars that remain on screen & can be clicked.
- Can't just /duel someone (Your best hopes of a one on one battle is 2 players entering Ballista, running away from the others & duking it out).
- Not sure if it's a Con or not, but there is no voice like EQ2 has.
- Transportation costs you a pretty penny.
- Poor Economy on most servers (pricing on items is rediculously outrageous).
- Poor Customer Service from PlayOnline call center & in-game, also poor way to contact GM for assistance in-game.
- Poor Billing. Players who reinstate their subscriptions mid-month pay full price for only the remainder of the month (If you reinstate 2 days before the end of month, you pay full price for only 2 days of service).

Some of the Cons are pretty damn serious negatives on SE & POL's part, but still compaired to experience in other games it's still top dawg IMO.

Its not that dauting to start plenty of people are constently signing on (like me) and are have a great (if not obsessed) time, lvling is so much fun and I like to just sit and chat with people.

Anyone having prior knowledge of Squaresoft/Enix would know what they'd be getting into.

 <--- SE

I actually hate most of the basic FFXI storyline. A Tarutaru NPC 1-shotting a L72 Cardian (Ace) NM with Thunder, Prishe 1-shotting a Mammet by hitting him on the back of the head (yet some sword-comboing SC takes away 1/5 it's HP? Yyyyeeeeaaahh...)

Good to know that despite all my effort, that 15-year old brat can hit 40x harder with her bare hands than I can with two axes. And how many merits does Ajido have? His Thunder I apparently does over 20k to Cardians, non-MBed. Just wow. And these guys need our help, WHY?

Because we make the world go round.
Without us, who would they repeatedly tell the same stories to?
