My state of mind.

Thats why I quit FF. Putting my gamming time before any real priorities in life, and then realizing its all a game, and it was useless because I'd never be a Vang(rich) or Meeze(awsome player and rich) and I just quit. Plus the economy sucked some major cock, and there was no purpose to work my ass off to buy some peice of shit fucking belt.

Man, you guys make me want to quit. :(

I haven't played since Thursday and it felt SO DAMNED GOOD to not play ffxi this weekend.

I feel like quitting, but I wanted to get my bst to 75 first...

I think I can feel your pain. Cept, my issue is I love FFXI. I enjoy playing it most of the time. I hate the fact I have to tolerate idiots on a daily basis, that tends to get to me. However, my main issue is and probably always will be gear. I say gear, because gil is the basis on how one generally gets gil. Lets look at quests, and whatnot for equipment. You can't solo them at a remotely close level. You need to be like 20 levels over. So you can't quest for gear all that well. The drops are so rare you tend to have to spend ours camping something to get it. The economy is player controlled, so it goes down hill, which tends to make getting gear even harder. I've had ALOT of friends help me out with this kinda stuff, and I really appreciate it. I don't enjoy farming, plain and simple. I loathe it. It's the most boring unentertaining aspect of any game I have ever played. That's my issue. I wish I didn't have to spend time making gil. Because it bores the piss out of me. Of course, this may come from a lack of crafting. Sometimes, I'm such a n00b.

Reading over this, you're a self centered asshole. What gives you the right to preach to others about their choices and their lives? Just because you don't like it, it's not for you, doesn't mean it's not for others as well. You're not smarter than anyone else here, you're not wiser, you're not more in touch with reality. Get off your high horse.

Oooo seems Tymon touched a nerve. Spare us the 'oh he's on a high horse BS,' since most of the time, the person pointing that finger is the one saddled up.

I love how people claim opinion against their own personal belief is some sort of negative preaching. I mean, I guess I kind of understand, since opinions that are not my own are worthless, right? /sarcasm

Well let's see. I was addicted big time to this game for over a year. At the time it really helped me to be able to not deal with my rl (see Vet's thread from about a week ago in Reality Sinks in, if you really wanna know).

Anywayyyyy, about the end of April I took time away from the game til about 3 weeks ago. I would still play, but not 24/7 like I used to. Sometimes when I played before I'd go 2-3 days with none or very little sleep. When I think about it now, I think I was nuts for a tad there. But, I can honestly say my addiction is now gone. If something in rl is goin' on, I want to do that over playing. But I love to play again also. To this day, the game has not gotten boring to me. There is always something to do when I log on. Mebbe I've just been lucky so far, but I still love playing.

PS. Fellina I totally understand where you're coming from. My daughter and her hubby have 3 kids themselves and don't have the money to piss away on goin' out. They also play video games together as their quality time. There is nothing wrong with that in the least.

The way we used to spend quality was online in Diablo II and LOD. But after 4 years playing that it just got wayyy too boring and we all finally quit.

God I'm so jealous of you folks who have gotton your husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend into ffxi... I would absolutely LOVE to play the game with my wife, but she just despises this game. I don't understand it. She likes Dragon Quest (also SE) but she hates FFXI... Anyway, I would love to find a game that my wife and I could BOTH play together. Because about the only thing I hate about ffxi is it takes away quality time between me and my wife and it gets on her nerves.

You know, Tymon. I really think you are amazing to simply say "stop" and quit the game. I know I couldn't do it <.<;

lol Everyday I log on I always think.. " What's the point if it's going to be erased anyways?" and it will be too over time. So I decided I would quit soon before I waste my time on a game which won't even allow me to save it anywhere else without paying > >. It was fun.. but damn doing the same thing over and over .. gets horribly boring. I usually log on for 5 min and say " FUG it I can't take it " and log off lol.

Not only that, but my gf doesn't even play anymore lol so that took a chunk of my fun. Busy with 2 jobs and school she rarely has time :). So have to make time for her by quitting lol.

Quit the game now unless you can COMPLETELY DEVOTE YOURSELF TO THIS GAME! By putting everything else aside. haha it's true ... I can't do it though... nope ONly FF I ever gave up on.. depending on other people isn't my thing lol Not once did I ever borrow equips or gil from anybody.

I don't post often, but I felt compelled to comment... Sorry.

I agree with everyone that spoke on moderation. FFXI is a kind of recreation, like getting lost in a good book, or taking time to paint or write... or watch TV. Everyone needs something that decompresses them; something that seperates them from the immediacy of the stressful, or the mundane. I enjoy FFXI. I've been blessed by meeting good people that like to have a good time. I can sit at home and chat with my friends, blow some stuff up, and spend some fake money (since I don't have any *real* money to spend).

Often I don't have more than an hour here or there to play, but I do take advantage of chunks of time when I have them. With my schedule, those good sized chunks are few and far between.

I don't believe enjoying the game in moderation is any more dangerous than reading a novel in a single afternoon, or watching a few hours of television a day. But there must remain a certain awareness of reality... that the game is just that, a game. None of it is real, none of it should be taken with life and death seriousness. Enjoy your friends, enjoy the distraction of the FF world, then return to your real life. I think that's balanced. :)

thanks :)

This game is kind of difficult to enjoy moderately. You have to put in some serious time to get into a good LS. You have to show that LS some serious dedication to get god drops. AND you have people calling other people who don't have that kind of dedication pussies and posers. This game isn't about moderation. In fact, about the only job you can have fun with in moderation is probably beastmaster since you don't have to dedicate a certain amount of time to anybody but yourself.

Why do you play FFXI? Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and realized that FFXI is over time, ruining your IRL life. Don't deny it. It is, if you spend 10 hours a day on a game there's absolutely no chance you're not neglecting somthing. What ARE you neglecting? Family? School? Work? Friends? Children? Personal hygene? All of the above?

I understand your frustration level, and I think most of the people who play these kinds of games realize it's a big timesuck diversion which means very little in the real world.

Having said that, I'll also point out that at this moment you're not much different from the former smoker railing against his buddies who continue to light up. You're not much different from the born-again Christian railing against the vices he found so appealing a little earlier. You can point out how much we're wasting our time, and we'll likely nod along and say "Yeah, man. Yeah. You're totally right" and then keep on doing what we're doing because we're still having fun.

Do I have a life? Yes, I do. Maybe it's boring as hell and nobody but me would appreciate it, but having a life is just part of being alive. I'm one of those people who can easily spend hours and hours playing FFXI. I also know who I am and what I want out of life. This game doesn't detract from that.

Your sermon is duly noted. I'm sure I'll reach that point when the game no longer interests me, but I don't think you'll see me putting down the people who still play it. It's their business how they spend their recreational time.

Tymon i like how your quitting and you think your better than all of us...well your not....your more pathetic for thinking you are....your like a junkie of junk....youll be back anyways....BTW i do have a life it is affected by FFXI but its not ruining it...and I take a shower specially since my hair gets greasy fast >.>

a shower everyday that is lol forgot to put that.
FFXI doesnt mean shit IRL but its kinda a hobby soooo

Yay for more people spitting on the OP's opinion because it isn't their own. I want to know where in any of his posts he said he was better than everyone here, or implied it. Please, guide me to that part of his post.

Wow, you need 5h to actually do anything? I've been screwed out of truely fun things for the LONGEST time then..I must not be average at all if I gotta take 10h gaming sessions, might be able to manage one of those once a month.

Yes, someday the game will be done...but that's how EVERY game is. 'What's the point?', well, it's a game. You make your own point for it.

I'm sure no one here has a perfect life. There's SOMETHING they wanna change. And some things may be relatively crappy (hark, they may actually have no life), but wether that's true or not it might not exactly be FFXI's fault, might be something totally different to begin with. *shrug*
