Aright, I'm not going "ZOMG CANCER!", and I want to see if anyone else has encountered this so I know how to handle it before going to a doctor.

I recently discovered this odd lump, about 1-1.5 centimeters wide and solid, but no hard.

It is just below my ear directly behind my jaw, and not noticable by the eye unless I tilt my whole head sideways. Its only on the left side. The right side is still clear. (Thats how I found it.)

I've been told it could be anything from a swollen Lymph Node to a non-cancerous Tumor.

Anyone have any insight into this?

eh, it could be a swollen lymph node, or it could be a sist*sp?* id go to your doctor if it doesnt go away in a couple days and have check it out :/. sist's suck D: if they dont go away on their own they can be quite painful and may need to be popped by a doc, then drained..

my mom got them alot, mostly on or around her ears. So that is jsut my 2 cents. best of luck rufus

Tim the toolman Taylor says:

Dremel that shit.

I do believe the correct spelling is "cyst" by the way if you choose to research them.

I had that once before, it went away for me.

A friend of mine had a similar bump when we were in seventh grade. His was a little bit bigger, though. He didn't even know it was there until I noticed it one day while playing "Zombies Ate My Neighbors" with him.

It was a tumor, and it was bigger under his skin. He had to get it removed, and then another surgery a few years later because it came back.

His was cancerous, but he's been in perfect health since his second surgery. Get it checked out, just to be safe.

It's a zit. Pop it like you'd pop cmdrfly

I've had that before, it went away. most of the time, if you think it might be a tumour, it isn't. best to go to a doctor anyways though.

No one can reliably diagnose anything over the phone (or internet) but...

That is the location of some cervical lymph nodes. If you have had any type of infection of the ear, nose or throat recently then it's most likely a swollen lymph node. Nodes that are either primary tumors (initial site of cancer) or sites of metastatic cancer (secondary site) are usually firm, non-tender and matted (which means they are non-mobile; normal nodes can be rolled under the skin with your fingers).

There are many different types of cysts. Ganglion cysts are out-pouchings of joints or tendon sheathes that have become filled with gelatinized synovial fluid. This is a very unlikely spot for a ganglion however, since the only close joints are the TMJ and the intervertebral joints which aren't really all that close. Infectious cysts are filled with pus (this is what "zits" are, just small ones) and are usually painful and surrounded by redness, swelling and warmth. Epidermoid cysts are filled with a substance that looks like pus, but is really just normal skin secretions. There are other types as well, but the take home message on cysts is that the vast majority of them do not resolve unless treated surgically.

Cancer is pretty low on the list of possible diagnoses. I can't tell you what you have, only what you might have. If it doesn't go away after a week or so, you should see your doctor. Just be reassured that it's not likely to be cancerous.

I've had a cyst-like thing behind my ear since I was little. I have no idea what it is, but it doesn't hurt and hasn't changed in size ever.

I had this on my right side for about a month it went away tho

I bet a spider laid it's egg sack under your skin. Just wait about a month. It'll "Go Away".

Oh great, now im gonna have fucking nightmares about spiders exploding out of my juggular vein. XD

GREEEAT.

If it doesn't change in size or doesn't start hurting don't worry about it. Keep an eye on it but things like cancer will give you other symptoms too.

I have a bump directly behind my left earlobe too. Popped up a few weeks ago and has very slowly got smaller but hasn't gone away. No pain, it hasn't grown, so I'm just letting it be.

It's more likely than not a cyst, as that area is a very common place for them to be.

Jawline not probable?

Totally unrelated, but one of my brother's friend had that happen to him. The kid popped it, and just disgusting what came out.

Sweet game.

Hey Rufus, if spiders do bust out of your face, please record it and share the awesomeness with the QCDN boards.

wasnt that in some horror/scary story book thing? where this lady got it checked out by a doctor 4 or 5 times.... Finally after the doctor concluded it was a cyst... it busted open?
