Nail in the Coffin: Sony's a bunch of dicks.

So, what? No more PSP's?

Edit: finished reading the article, that sucks ><.

The problem was, Lik-Sang exports. Europes getting fucked by Sony. Europe desides to import PSPs and stuff. Sony's Europe branch gets pissed and drops legal drama bombs.

I've got money saying it won't stop there, other import sites will be shut down as well. =/

Saw that earlier this morning. It is disappointing that Lik-Sang had to close.

Ordered a few things through them and they were easy to work with. Never had the chance to order games but I did get a some components for the dreamcast.

What now? Encourage more emulators and illegal methods? Lik-Sang's imports were legit right? So after Sony put malware (rootkit) on CDs they came up with this brillant idea.
Europe and Japan (maybe Canada?) both have region 2 DVDs so it seemed okay to import stuff. Next they will cry about us getting all region dvd players so we can watch our japanese imports.

Globalization and the use of the internet has made a demand for this stuff. While it can be seen as a problem, why not make this an opportunity ? Some people are even willing enough to buy original japanese stuff that costs 50 more USD than the stuff that is made for the US market. I will even admit to trying to order imported stuff on an all japanese text site to get something that will unlikely be on US shores other than some street shop out in LA or NY.

Above is one of the reasons why these Asian game/import shops came up on the web. They could reach the markets of those who do not live in the shipping hubs to get stuff they wanted without a trip to a major port city, a heavily asian influenced area, and overseas a chance to buy it.

Ever since this morning, there has been a lot of negative feedback on Sony's part. Does this mean Sony gets a "wag of the finger"? ;p

maybe sum-dik shoulda cashed sony out for exporting their product. Probably some resolution wasn't resolved and sony went ahead and sued them.

And sony really nailed their coffin lol. That's cool.

No, theres a difference between taking someone to court over violations, and simply drowning them in lawsuits. Sony did the latter. Thats what makes them a bunch of dicks.

What do you call the guys who kept importing shit after sony told them to stop? Stupid, they brought it upon themselves.

Erm. What the hell are you trying to say? Theres no law against importing. Also, Sony of Europe's Execs used Lik-Sang to get their own PSPs, which they kindly omitted in their lawsuits.

The "violation" Lik-Sang produced was selling PSPs on the old firmware, which allows for emulation. I mean, last I checked, the old PSPs weren't recalled, and you've gotta get rid of stock somehow.

I'm saying sony said "stop that", they said "no", sony drowned them in lawsuits, goodbye company.

Please learn to read articles that are linked instead of making your own brash judgments. Sony of Europe's directors even bought things from Lik-Sang. Thats not exactly a "stop that."

Sony the company has no say where their employees shop.

Sony, the company, said stop that. What the ceo or janitor bought from them is useless information.

Once Sony told lik sang not to sell that product, they continued, now they are no more. If they had done, what sony told them to do, and not what their greedy wallets told them to do, they wouldn't have folded.

Drowning them in legal action is a douche move, and amounts to nearly extortion. Had this gone through normal legal channels, with Lik-Sang having a proper chance to defend themselves in court, this could have possibly even been overturned.

On top of that, their claims are bogus, and practically against the world trade organization's regulations. (Import restrictions serve to "adjust" prices in each region as they see fit, to maximize profits)

The whole thing is bullshit, and not something Sony had a legal or ethical right to do. I'm betting I know the only rea$on they got away with thi$ for $o long...

Why would $ony spend money in court, when they can make the whole company go away? This move saves them money in the long run, smart move.

It might be a nice thing to do, but it makes business sense. It isn't their responsibility to coddle lesser companies and give them a chance to win.

It costs money to bring about lawsuits. I'd say much more money than just one big hearing to protect thier assets. It was a battle of endurance here, Sony just had more capital to draw back on.

It was a Douchbag move in the legal and business world. It will hurt them in the long run, at the very least in the gaming world.

Exactly. It makes perfect business sense.
The problem is the fact that they were able to do that kind of thing. It's a bit of a problem when a company can make it impossible to defend one's self and say "You go squish now," winning by default. (Sony, RIAA...) More of an issue with the legal system, I suppose.
...but then again, from a business standpoint, it's also damaging their company's reputation by doing this sort of thing...

First of all, congratulations to Sony. The other console makers thank you for your guts to fumigate the house. Importing companies are the same as gilselling companies. They're gadflies on elephants. They bank on the idea that videogame makers and console makers don't have the willpower, cash, and time to enforce their legal rights, so they leech off them.

Sony told them to stop. They didn't. They sat back and said, "aww they'll never spend all that money to go after us in a court." Sony called their bluff. The chickenwusses didn't show up A. Because they bet wrong and B. They have no case and never did. Make no mistake, an importing company's entire existence is staked on the idea that the product makers have better things to do than shut them down. Think otherwise? It is, unfortunately, not an opinion.

The importing company had two options when Sony called their bluff:
1. Lose.
2. Show up, drop a lot of cash to show up, and still lose.

It's naive to think that they didn't show up because they couldn't afford it. They didn't show up because they were already dead. By not showing up, they get to keep more cash for themselves when the company does tank. By shutting the site down now instead of still operating, they prove that they were just a rat on a ship ready to jump the second it started sinking.

I like Sony's rebuttal to their employees buying imports. gg lik-seng why helo thar customer confidentiality international business ethics breech.

Sony strengthened the global videogame industry. Nintendo thanks them. Microsoft thanks them. The I-want-it-earlier greedmonger players who weaken their local videogaming regions by outsourcing their voice to Japan naturally pitch a hissie.

What in THE HELL are you talking about?
Anyway, this is just another 'FUCK YOU' that Sony needs to recive, Lik-Sang was easily my most favorite import company...

I'm talking about the reality that makes opinions irrelevant.
Did you ever cut-rank and get an early product without supporting your native market?

If so, you were a part of the problem. And if not, don't blame Sony. Blame your peers. Sony wouldn't have TOUCHED that 2-bit leech site if they had just stopped selling consoles and large international releases. But no. Lik got greedy.

Bang bang went the black monolith 'till it was all dead.

Yes, and theres nothing wrong with doing that. Remeber, its still produced by the same company, so they still get the money. And, there are always the other imports, the imports that will never be released into America. If it was not for import companys like Lik-Sang, I never would have gotten to play Jump! Super Stars, and that is one HELL of a game.
