Nail in the Coffin: Sony's a bunch of dicks.

Yes, and theres nothing wrong with [importing without buying the regional product]. Remeber, its still produced by the same company, so they still get the money.

You're not seeing the big picture. Sony wants European PSPs in Europe. Lik-Sang is cutting into the market with cheaper and earlier ripped JP PSPs. Sony says where sony sells sony. Lik-Sang just bets that Sony won't do anything about it.

Surely you can see why Sony hammered this company. They were hurting the future of the European videogaming region by oursourcing the voice to Japan.

If you bought an import early and never supported your local gaming region, then you're a part of the problem, and none of the three console makers probably even wish you owned their products. You weaken the North American gaming voice when you buy JP just to get yours early.

Ok, so Lik-Sang gets the better of Sony, they get all pissed off about it. But, to go as far as to close down a business? Not only is that bad, but Sony just lost a TON of fans because Lik-Sang was a very well know company. And really, its Sony's fault. If a company did not want their stuff to be sold to other regions, they would not make it region free.

I'll miss Lik-Sang. I bought a Game Boy Advance from them with the Afterburner already installed and I still use it to this day, even though the SP and Micro and DS later destroyed the need for that particular mod.

Blame the victim all you want, but the victim got up and beat the ever-living shit out of its assailant.

Lik-Sang did nothing wrong. Its like they were whistling in a public place, and Sony yelled at them to stop. They didnt, and then Sony beat the shit out of Lik-Sang. In America, that is called Assault, my friend.

Dude, opinion. Perspective. Irrelevant. Several court cases say you're flat-out wrong. Sony put the hammer down on other importers in a court of law when the leeches DID show up. They all lost.

Someone who knows more than you and better than you says that Sony has rights here that have been infringed. What you THINK and your TAKE doesn't matter. Learn to defer to superiors. You're not a heavy-hitter in the realm of international law and business.

The ONLY sad thing about Lik-Sang's VOLUNTARY ship-jump is that games only released in Japan, which Sony probably couldn't have cared less about, got taken away too.

This is a problem with the courts, as I said. It goes against free trade entirely. I'm kind of curious how far this went up/was appealed/etc...

Edit for edit:

This is the problem with the internet. Gives anyone the seat of a judge, the training of a physician, and the leverage to put their opinion in the moral minority category.

Sony is right, thus say the courts repetitively. Again, learn to defer to those who know better. At the very least freaking acknowledge that your superiors on the matter's opinions are probably more valid than yours. You're entitled to an opinion, but seriously. The internet doesn't REALLY protect the integrity of your opinion in the face of the truth, and the truth is that if you think importing is legal then you're wrong at best and foolish if you're incapable of seeing the perspective of Sony and the courts.

It's illegal for a reason. It undermines the region that Sony is trying to support but is being undercut and undermined by their own leaked product. Free-trade isn't a human right and never was.

When every European gamer has a European product, Sony can better tailor its services to the global demographics. As it stands, Sony thinks that Japan's gaming population is bigger than it really is. Unless you want your games in Japanese with German subtitles (which is admittedly a bad example since japanophile importers would just LOOOOOOOVE that), I'd be buying the German products myself.

Importers silence themselves and silence those who live around them when they pretend to be Japanese. Period. That is the moral weight that Sony wins with, in addition to their legal and law-given right.

Lol Peregrine owns all. Importing a game from Japan isn't illegal if it's not planned to be sold in a different market, but if it is planned (or already sold) in a market that becomes illegal. It's a capitalist world for the most part. Dog bite the flea on the ass and the flea died.

Unless the company charges more for games they bring over to America/Europe, that's crap; because the developer receives the same money. Unless Lik-Sang is Duping their own copy of the games to sell, then they're still buying them from the developer, and just mailing them to you; so the developers really don't give a shit because they're not losing any money. It could even be a form of advertising, I've played a couple import games and got my friends to try it; when it came out in America we all bought it whereas we might not have bought it without importing. I can't see why it'd be illegal or why developers would even care.

Hardware is a different matter entirely, and Sony should have only gone for that, not shut down the entire website.

Wrong. They receive what looks to be Japanese-generated money when in reality it came from Europe. Sony's global demographics need to be correct if they are to best-represent their market. The developer not only receives what they think is DIFFERENT money, their law-given right (and right for a reason) to sell their products to who they wish on their own schedule is COMPLETELY undermined by importing of unauthorized consoles.

You can't argue that Sony should have no reason to hammer them when they took the time, money, and effort and went ahead and leveled them to the ground. Obviously they think otherwise, and are willing to tell importers to go screw themselves in order to secure their rights here.

Sony has the right to sell Sony where and when Sony wants.

So...if its money from another country...it doesnt count?

I can understand them wanting to know about their sales in different regions, but if they're not going to bother trying to sell something in that region, I think it's stupid to try to shut down an importing website.

Misrepresented money and undermined money doesn't count when it screws your view of your own product up. Europe needs all the voice it can get. It needs every European gamer to have a European console. Sony made it region free when they didn't have to. Come on, they're throwing importers bones right now. They just want these leech companies to stop with the console hawking and undercutting and undermining their right to sell their consoles on their own schedules.

They asked them to stop selling what? The games? No. The console. Did they stop? No. So what happened? Ass beating.

So if I were to exchange $1 American for $1 Canadian...who am I misrepresenting and undermining? Canada or America?
Is there value loss?

that link of skaw's is down for me T.T what's this about to sum up? And what's lik-sang or whatever?

Exactly, and theres no warning to NOT resell a PSP, so Lik-Sang had the right to sell what they wanted. And, your reason about the demograpics? If enough people were buying from Japan and NOT Europe, they would obviously see that something is wrong there.

Sony stopped something that can lead to piracy. If we for example had a Japanese console, the only thing we can do is order games over seas, or just chip the system to be able to play burned games.

-Selling a console made for American consumers, to European Consumers, obviously would result in the european holder not to be able to run any games sold in Europe.

-Like all gaming consoles, the company does lose money upon the sale of the console alone, and they rely on the sales of games to repay that debt and then the profits come in.

Alot of people are unaware of these 2 points. One point can lead to Sony getting a bad reputation for making consols that fail at running games, and the other point can cause Sony to lose some serious coin. On a very wide scale, it would be multi millions, depending on the amount of console sold in the incorrect region.

It's become a trend to kick and scream at Sony, Personally i think they did the right thing. Making the consols exclusive to region helps keep some content not intended to that area out of popularity, which paves a stable path to the next generation consols.

I think you can break it down like this. The only people who are going to care about this are the hardcore gamers that go to dozens of gaming sites in a given week to get their info. They will cry "$ony abu$e blahblah!" and how Sony is corrupt. These same people will most likely buy a PS3 anyway and if they don't, it won't be because of this. It'll be because they are either a MS/Nintendo onry fanboy or because they already thought the PS3 looked like garbage from all of the giant enemy crab and other failures of Sony as of late.

So who does this hurt? No one really other than Lik-Sang. Sony gets paid, importers go to NCSX or whomever else they want, and the anti-sony naysayers just get something else to talk about for a week. But hell, they weren't going to get the PS3 anyway. Or maybe they were, and this isn't going to stop them either.
