In a couple of months, the birthday of...someone important will pop up. I really want to get her something special, but until now I didn't have a clue on what to get her.
Then as I was browing the internet, I came upon this. Thing is, I don't really know if I should, since I don't know how she'd react.
So, a question:
How would YOU react if someone had named a star after you for your birthday?
Or, anything you could recommend I could get her?

Mom did this for my dad a few years ago...it's a really a neat touch, but some people may be turned off because it's sortof highly egotistical in a way. I personally think it's a neat thing to do but in the end it'd be your choice, you're the only one whom has a good idea of how s/he would react. =/

Well since you asked...
To be honest, even if my bf named a star after me I would probably be touched at the moment but after a while I'll probably just forget about it >.< lol (I luv you sweety)
The thing is I hardly look up into the nightsky and its not worth it to me if I do get a star with my name and I can't see it. To me, its like what's the point?

If I had telescopes or had a huge interest in stars and nebulas and whatnot, maybe that would be a nice thing.
So if he does get something for me then I want to at least be able to use it and be reminded when I look at it or see it that he gave "this" to me.

Do you know what this person likes? Do you know what this person's interests are? You could get a book or a CD of the kind of music they like, etc.

it usually goes over pretty well if they like astronomy or not. its a romantic type thing to do, or just cool for a friend even. You dont need a telescope to care much about it, just knowing you have a star named after you out there that will always be named after you and that your star has the chance of crashing into some planet and destroying in you can say "Yeah, I did that and i will be remembered always"

then you can come up with some cheesy line once you give them the gift like "Now even when we are apart ill never be alone because your star will guide me in the night" then you can cue the porn music.

Its great gift really.

I would love something like that as a gift. I am interested in astronomy but that would be beside the point. Whether or not I could actually see the star with my eyes wouldn't matter. Just the thought that when I looked up at the night sky, I would know that someone thought enough about me to think on such a grand scale and in such a unique way, that it would make me feel special.

Nothing wrong with getting her an actual present that she can touch and see, but do both, and see her reaction to each one. And as far as forgeting about it, well, maybe I'm just a romantic, but I could never forget something like that.
