Well I am new to these forums and I enjoy reading all the posts I see in any of the topics. But I have come across alot these posts in the forums such as "Watch Out for PlayerX" and they normally involve saying things behind this persons back leaving them deffenceless and giving them no chance to explain themselfs. Is this the true pourpose of the "Flameboard" to paint huge red targets on people and have them shunned from the community, instead of helping them to become a more experienced player or help them change there ways and instead of argue to respond politley and set them on there way? I know some of these people are really ignorant but they are just trying to enjoy the game just like you. Surethey may not see things on the same level as you or not see things correctly but they will learn from there mistakes from death or another consequence.

Please feel free to flame me. this is a topic open to all sorts of opinions.

OMFG I FLaMezZORED jU, JU StOOPiD NUB.. hehe.. just kidding.

On a more serious note, I think the posts about people in the "name idiots names" thread are genuine. I mean.. if we have a bad experience with someone who obviously was acting stupid/immature/retarted/idiotic/noobish/rude or whatever, we have a right to share that information with the rest of the players. That way we can choose whether or not we want to take the chance of wasting our time with whomever the posts are about.

I personally try to keep in mind some of the people in the posts on this forum whom are said to be negative. Now I dont immediately blacklist someone because of what someone else says. I give them atleast a chance of somekind. I havent yet blacklisted Tilk or Roofie. I saw Roofie in game once, i didnt treat him like he was an ass. I waved at him and said i had seen him on qcdn, he waved back. So with that little exchange he didnt seem so bad. Now if later on down the line i ever pt with him and it turns out to be a bad experience because of him for whatever reason or he just decided to whack out and go retarded one day i might be talking to him, then and only then will he earn a spot on my blacklist. Thats just how I see it anyway.

g4h j00 fl4m3z3d m3 g00d j00 n00b :D jk

now that you put it that way i kinda see where some of these people are comming from.

/em wakes up tommorow morning to see a complaint post against him.

:P

Short answer: Yes!

Long answer:
THe flameboard historically serves as a place where people are not expected to be polite. In fact, you are supposed to be rude, let whatever grief you have out, vent, so that you don't carry it around with you across other boards or the game, or worse yet, real life.

Reason and rationale don't apply here, if reasonable arguments are made, then more power to the poster, but they are not a requirement for a thread. As such everything you read should be taken with a grain of salt, at the very least. It could be true, it could be fictional, or and most likely it is a matter of perception.

However, having said that, I do need to point out that MMOs rely to a large degree on the reputation (or notoriety if you will) of a player. As such people who are not concerned about their reputation will be displayed on this board, essentially as targets, and as an example to those who may consider to stray from the path of the ultimate truth!

Seriously though, don't take the flameboard too serious, just enjoy the flames while you are at work or otherwise unable to be in game, and heck, if you are able to convince someone that the person you posted about is a total prick, more power to you.

I've come to the decision that naming names isn't the way to go for me. It tends to open a whole can of worms that usually (for me anyway) wasn't the point and I really don't like dealing with the flack that usually has nothing to do with the original purpose of the post. Call me a wuss - but I hate the hostility that accompanies the act of naming names. Allthough I do find it to be one of the more interesting boards to read on the site....

Only those with something to hide would object to the naming of names. Otherwise, S/he would have nothing to fear.

It's a free country, do as you please, as long as you are happy with the choice made. Discussing rudeness, and naming rude people is all the same to me.

I'm not objecting to the act of naming names and have absolutely nothing to hide other than the first 3 1/2 months I played as a RDM/MNK

I'm just saying based on my experience and a silly rant that got way out of hand - It's definatley not my thing. But whatever floats your boat right?

I don't give much credit to flame posts. I was reading a post on Allahkazam (which I'm sure I mis-spelled) and came across a flame posts where the guy names about 30 people who he has on his /blist.

But I noticed that I recognize 3 or 4 names on his list *and* that these people are EXTREMELY good players -- people who I'd definitely want in my party.

I finally got to talk to a couple of the people and asked them why they got on this guys blacklist. Turns out the more I found out about this guy, the more I realized HE was the problem... not the folks on his blacklist.

I think I know who you're talking about... This was in the /blist thread in Marato's Quetzy forum, right?

I personally do not like to name names on the boards. Like I seen in another flame board at KillingIfrit.com, people have their bad days. Something is bugging them that is RL involved or they just simply screw up and feel bad about it. I, myself only add people to my Blist if they are causeing some kind of trouble. Like shouting for example, when I was farming in Palabrough Mines there was someone spaming with shouts that he needed help with the Dragon Mission. I got tired of listening so I added him to my Blist. People started yelling back at him for spaming so I Blisted them too. At the end of my playing time I unBlisted them and went on.

I have incountered some people that are really bad that I hate partying with them. I just keep a watchful eye on the sitiuation and if it turns sour then I say I need to leave and I leave party. I think flame boards though entertainingg as they are just create tension in the game where people get worked up with anxiety of becoming a victim on these boards. I mean come on guys is it not the point that we log onto the game to escape stress. Yeah there are some really rude people in this game that think they are God's gift to this game. Those are the people that do deserve to be Blisted and I feel why the whole system was created for that purpose.

/agree on that one. The flame war that insued after you named *a certain persons name* was one of the best things ive ever seen. :D It was funny to put that person under the gun a little...but i hate to see that stuff carry on to other areas of the board.

of course i would try to help

BUT~~~~

i had to learn it the hard way...train...death....aggro...money...macro.. etc

i personally feel that's the way u really learn ^^;;

u either adapt or perish.... end of discussion ~

see you out there!! (in the game that is)

The way i look at it is that you never know where you may end up or who's help you might need. In general, it is a really poor idea to name names cause maybe the person you named has a friend who has a friend who is now IN YOUR PT! In my posts i have named only 2 names: Gunmm and Xcalade. I name these names because i cant imagine ANYONE feeling loyal to either of them. Those are bridges I am willing to burn. But if someone just crosses you wrong, who screws up a little, or annoys you a touch, it would be a bad idea to name him because he may not be THAT bad and have people who ARE loyal to him, and this may cause difficulties down the road.

I see the flame board as a warning list really. I'll still party with Gunmm, as I've never personally partied with him. But where I usually give 2 or 3 chances for most players, he's only getting one.

lol Guess who i saw in the same party last night! Gunmm and Xcalade! Xcalade was ofcourse accompanied by his hip attachment named Auelin. Once again.. I couldnt find any faults with her.. Its just her fondness for Xcalade is boggling. Maybe she's his older sister or something.. *shrug*

I was in Crawler's Nest.. sitting along waiting for a party, a little bit before i hear someone shout something about a soldier crawler train, but i never saw it. About 30 mins later there is still a crawler train up at the zone apparently and then Xcalades party comes through.. Now I have him /blisted so I cant hear anything he may be shouting or saying. A minute later I get a tell from out of nowhere by a guy named Mindstain who is in a xp party in the sac room (i was on the ledge before you drop, been there for a few hours too) and he tells me "Dude.. dont bring that train in here".

I immediately tell him I dont know wtf he's talking about, that i havent trained anything at all and have been sitting in the same spot for a few hours. He says "Oh sorry, I was just going off hearsay" I almost immediately guessed it was Xcalade starting crap.. but i decided not to ask him if it was Xcalade but instead asked if he wouldnt mind telling me who said that about me.

Sure enough, his anwser was "Xcalade" so I told him this: Don't listen to anything Xcalade says man, he's one of the most immature and stupid players you'll ever see. He says "Oh okay" Then we talk for a bit more before I wish him good luck and tell him to have fun in his pt. Likewise he was nice to me. Score 9999 me, -13 Xcalade.

Just as a character note: you can trust Mindstain, he's on the level.
Thats funny that Gunmm and Xcalade partied together. They deserve one another.
