As for the leagality of downloading subbed episodes anymore is dependant upon the contract of the liscencing. If they only bought the rights to distribute the first season then subbers will still leagally be able to distribute all episodes other than the 1st season. Again it will take time to see what will happen.

I don't mean any disrespect, Kurgon, but unless you (or whoever distributes the show for download) purchased the rights to distribute a show, it isn't legal to do it at all. Even if a subsequent season isn't licensed, it's still not legal to distribute without license from the IP holder. The short story is that if you don't own a license to distribute the content, you are in violation of international copyright laws and the Berne Convention.

This is, of course, a situation where POT = KETTLE, so I'm not telling you to knock off whatever you may or may not be doing or that you're in the wrong at all. It's just that if a person's going to distribute/download anything like a TV show, they're not on the right side of the law. A lot of times people mistake something that's tolerated for something that's legal. Electronic distribution might be tolerated, but it's certainly not legal.

Now, in the example of Naruto, ShoPro is merging with Viz. ShoPro is the US arm of ShoPro in Japan. ShoPro is a subsidiary of Shogakukan Publishing. While in the cases of Geneon and Bandai, they don't necessarily get every show distributed by their Japanese parent companies, ShoPro gets pretty much everything. You can expect every minute of the show to be released in the US without waiting for the formal announcement. In fact, you can probably expect any shows that are based on Shonen Jump manga or any other Shogakukan publication to be released by Viz. They're kind of the 50-ton gorilla of the industry, and it's pretty much guaranteed they're going to do everything they can to stay that way.

Again, no disrespect meant to you or anyone else, but there was a bit of inaccurate stuff being mentioned.

Initially I was pissed b/c I thought they weren't going to sub any more episodes and I was going to have to wait for Cartoon Network to catch up. Then I found out there were still some sites offering new episodes, so that made me feel better. Although I'm still a little sad that Anbu is going to stop subbing it, but at least Aone will continue. Hopefully the translations will be about the same.

And Tenkax, that was hilarious

None taken. You are correct. They are the owners of their show and they have the right to control when and where their property is distributed. I guess I should change it from leagally to illeagally but without fear of legal intercedance.
