I think Madara was the one who saved Obito and then he died sometime after helping Obito recover (giving him a new eye perhaps?) and teaching Obito crap. So ya, gonna call the backstory is Obito was rescued/revived/saved by Madara before Madara died :P

Also, it could be Madara was the one who attacked Konoha with the Kyuubi and then he died cause of something with Minato and that's when Obito took on the mantle of Tobi?

Nah, I'm pretty sure the "Tobi" that attacked Konoha with the kyuubi during Minato's reign as Hokage was Obito, simply due to the fact that he was using his space-time sharingan jutsu. I'm pretty sure that's specific to Obito and Kakashi because of their Mangekyo.

Now, I do think the one that gave Nagato the Rinnengan was Madara. Then Madara saves Obito from death, trains Obtio to take up the Tobi persona and trains him enough to fight on par with the 4th Hokage. The Madara dies and the attack on Konoha happens.

That makes sense :P we'll see how it goes.

Either way, seems the Manga has at most a year left of chapters (at the very most) so we'll hopefully see a good closure to the series.
 
As much as people may be raging about Tobito, it's all stating to make more sense. I still think that letting Rin die is a weak excuse for wanting to genjutsu the world, but maybe it'll be deeper than that in the next chapter.

Interesting.. strange, but interesting. It does shed light on how the hell a half crushed person could recover. I just don't quite follow how the rock and hence Obito "slipped" into this cave/cavern where Madara was existing.

Also about 601.. fuck, I know it seems like it should be impossible to recover from having your body split in two, but I hope they don't actually kill off Tsunade. I know Naruto's gotta be Hokage someday, but I'd be missing Tsunade's roll of filling the ecchi quota for Naruto single-handedly.

Ehhh, I'm a little more optimistic.

Madara has this whole Moon's Eye Plan thing in mind, but he can't really do it in his current old-man state and instead has to live off the Chakra of the Juubi. Enter Obito, a manipulatable pawn for Madara's using.

I haven't really thought about it before, but this is really the only active thread left on QCDN.

It's like we're the last straggling clan of a dying race.

Back on topic though, yes that's true, but it still doesn't explain how Obito is suddenly an adult and fights Minato.

Unless it's Madara, which makes no sense at all.

Well, you can't really say he's an adult. He's hidden by a mask and a cloak. Considering how Kakashi's stature is at that age, I don't think it's impossible.

As far as fighting Madara...what did Obito actually DO? As far as martial prowess goes, he didn't stand a chance. If not for Kamui, Minato would have ripped him apart. What I'm getting at is...Obito didn't really display any real fighting ability in his fight against Minato. He just teleported around and phased through attacks alot.
 
Who says that Obito was even an adult in that fight? He could still have just been a teen and have been the same size. While I don't think there is any actual evidence linking this, wasn't Kakashi away from the village on an Anbu assignment when the Kyuubi was released? If so he had to be around his late teens or early twenties. That would easily fit how Obito could fight against Minato. He would have had plenty of training by Madara at that point and would have likely mastered his sharingan powers by that point as well.

That's what I think anyway.

I think he was referencing Nagato. It's been implied that the "Tobi" before Obito was Madara, and since he gave Nagato the Rinnegan, that would mean Madara gave him his own Rinnegan.

Short answer: Madara gave his eyes to Nagato.
 
Maybe, but we know that Sasuke is going off to meet "him" or something with Orochimaru. So I wonder if that person might tie in.
