I just got xbox live yesterday, and while trying to play a match in my friend's party, i kept getting kicked out of it. We came to the conclusion that it was my NAT settings, so i ran an Xbox live test and they were set to strict. i've been trying to google information on how to change it and i haven't found anything helpful. If anyone knows how to change NAT settings from strict to open please let me know. I'm using a D-link DI-614+ wireless router. Thank you

Please dont listen to anything people who think they know about computers tell you. Every thing they do works, but is temp fix. Just call Xbox and get the port numbers you need to open NAT. Then call whom ever made your router and they will help you set it up. Seriously you can listen to friends that think they know but it will just lead to more frustration when it just messes up again.

lol you dont need to call xbox live to get that information....the port numbers have been the same since xbox 1 and i have them.
UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074
open those on your router and you will then have an open connection in your xbox live
configuration.

lucky for you im a d-link preferred router user.
heres what you do, most models have the same menu

in your web browser type in 192.168.0.1
type in admin as user name and leave password blank, unless you already set the user name and password.
Find the Advanced tab, and then the firewall tab.

should be some boxes. type these settings in for each port.

Name- Xbox live 1
Action- ALLOW
Interface Source- LAN
Interface Destination- LAN
Ip Range start(next to interface source)- *
Ip Range end(next to interface source)- Leave it blank

IP range start(next to destination)- 192.168.0.1
IP range end (next to destination)- Leave it blank

Protocol- UDP
Port range- 88 and leave the second box blank

Schedule- ALWAYS

and just do the same thing for the other ports, but change the protocol to TCP for one of the 3074 ports.
My model is a DI-514 but the menus should be pretty close enough for you to follow these directions.

all right, everything you said showed up on my DI-614+ screen.
i filled out the info for all 3 ports.
on the firewalls screen, all 3 of them show up under firewall Rules list
they say
Allow Xbox live 1 LAN,* LAN,192.168.0.1 TCP, 3074; UDP 88; and UDP 3074
yet my NAT settings still says strict when i run a test
is there possibly something i could be putting in wrong?

See chas you are a little more then "A friend who thinks they know". I was so tired of others recommending shit that doesnt work, only for a few days. I am aware you know how to do it lol.

lol i know osyris,
Mem, do you have windows firewall on?
also, in your network settings for your xbox get your IP for your xbox, do all the stuff i told you to do in the previous post and in place of the 192.168.0.1 put your xbox IP.
yes that means make three new settings and not edit the ones you already made, this will assure that if one of them is wrong, and one of them is right youll have both sets in place anyway just in case, this is normally how i do it.

if you have windows firewall on, shut it off, you only need your router firewall.
If you have any programs that block P2P listings like Peer guardian, be sure to turn it off.

all right, i made 3 new ones using my ip for my xbox.
so now i have 6 settings altogether.
and i rebooted after adding the 3 new ones and ran a test on my xbox live and it still says strict.
my windows firewall is turned off.
i'm going to have to look into programs that might be blocking the P2P listings.
i also set my xbox's IP address in the DMZ so it would be outside of the NAT settings, but that didn't work either.
it seems like you know what you're doing though, my router just doesn't like me lol

it still sounds like your ports are not opening correctly for some strange reason, your router is being stubborn lol.
What are a list of all the tabs and options you have in your router, there may be another way.
also remember when rebooting your xbox, unplug your router, count to ten, plug it back in, count to ten. remove the ethernet cord from your xbox and boot it up, once its fully booted shut it off, reinsert your ethernet cord into the xbox and reboot it.
this will ensure that its reading the new settings in your router instead of what it already had set.
if this does not work gimme the list of options in your router, and give me a screen shot of the firewall settings you currently have if you can.

I got it set to open! It turns out my firmware was outdated, so i got that updated and restarted everything, ran a test, and now it says open! It's always something stupid like updates. lol thanx for the help anyways chasym!
