At first I was skeptical. The more I watched, the more I liked. I know my fiancee will love it, which is a bigger plus. The kickball game looked kind of fun. It really looks like it has a ton of potential. They Milo kid was creepy, yet neat. What did you guys think? I honestly felt like I was watching something from "Minority Report". Looks like Microsoft might quite literally be the first to bring us the awesome hand controlled scrolling on computer screens right in our homes!

This is beyond the most groundbreaking announcement in years... I was very skeptical at the start as well. But my god this is just out of this world technology. It is obviously not some motion contol copycat.

Also i loved the cheap shot during the preview.. "This is no pre set waggle control.." pretty much sums it up lmao.

People were already calling it a cheap knock off. How they came to that conclusion is beyond me.

Well for one thing people are crazy..

The tech involved in Natal is not a new idea, as the Eye Toy would be the stepping stone for something like Natal.. But to call Natal a knock off of Eye Toy is crazy.. (thats the only thing i could think people are calling Natal a knock off in comparison to.)

The tech involved is rediculously more advanced then anything we have seen in its own area.

The Dodgeball game had incredible depth that worked well with the motion sensing..

The painting game was the least technical but shows you where artistic ideas will go with this sensor..

The Milo showing was NUTS. JUST INSANE.

The painting while visually not great, but awesome and would be fun to play with. Milo, now that is taking a step into advanced A.I.

Skynet here we come!

Dude me and my girflfriend were watching and said the same freaking thing Anglis.. We said Peter M is going to be the lead developer for Skynet lmfao.

Very impressed with this announcement, I definitely love the facial recognition/voice recognition features, but the motion capturing for games doesn't impress me. The way it was presented, it's going to be pretty limited in the types of games that you'll be able to use it with. It'll be a casual gamer toy, but that's about it; it'll receive the same treatment as the wiimote does from the "hardcore" gamers, except for the fanboys, of course.

All they need is for this thing to invade sports games properly.. Regardless of your interests in sports the sales of the genre can not be ignored.. I would sell someone elses children to play Madden and some Baseball with this thing.

This will be harder than the Wiimote to use correctly, it'll either be unresponsive or it'll be so dumbed down it makes wii sports look like it's got 1:1 controls. At the very best, you'd just get the exact same experience as you get with the Wii games, but given a game like madden, that's not likely to happen.

See i dont think anything that i am picturing from Natal is similar to wii.. What the lead dev said is true. When i played my wii games i was still sitting down on my couch.

Again the demos shown were very early stages of this product and still the dodgeball looked very controlled and accurate. Its still very early to decide what we think this will turn into. The wii was labeled a fail before it came out right?

It's scary how many people are making the Skynet analogy.

Can you say you were not scared slightly by that little boy in the demo??? His eyes flashed red in my head..

For most of them, you could do that(and they're doing that for most of the Natal games too, if you noticed), for several of the sports games, however, it was significantly more fun/easier to play actually standing up doing the motions.

There is a definite limit to the technology, it copies what it sees you do on the screen. Madden's a great game to look to for this. Sure, it'll duplicate you throwing a football, but what about running? Are you going to run in place, are you going to have to make sure you have a ton of space between yourself and the sensor so you can run the entire length of a football field? How well is it going to handle your taking turns on the field to dodge tacklers while still running?

The Wiimote works significantly better for that style of gameplay, since it combines the motion(throwing) with the running(analog stick on the nunchuk).

Let's look to golf, the golf games(outside of wii sports), worked extremely well, with very accurate detection of your swing. Natal is highly, highly unlikely to have that kind of accuracy; it's still technically possible, but it'd be incredibly difficult to detect any rotation in your hands accurately for the game; especially if you're wearing sleeves.

The wii was labeled a fail before it came out right?
Only by the PS3/360 fanboys and a few individuals in first/second party MS/Sony companies; all of which paled in comparison to the amount of interest from the industry's third party developers. Most of the industry was praising the hell out of Nintendo for thinking of such a thing(including a lot of the first/second party developers); so I don't know what hole your head was in before the Wii came out. Although I love the fanboyism about how now, only after Microsoft is finally introducing motion controls, will it actually change the industry.

This isn't meant to be a direct attack on the innovation on the Natal system and it's badass applications, I've already said that I'm impressed as hell with what they're going to do with it; only that the gaming aspect of it is definitely going to fall short. Unless Natal comes packaged with 360 systems(and they didn't say it would), the major game developers aren't going to care about adding support to a peripheral that not everyone will have on their big titles. Just look at the Wii Fit Board, the only major third party developer making big games for it is EA; everyone else is pretty much leaving it alone. The same will be true for the big developers and Natal.

Pretty sure even G4 did it.
Yeah, I was chatting about the conference with other users on a video stream, and almost everyone made some sort of comparison to Skynet when the boy came up.

I will agree that it's not right to judge the hardware just based on the very early stuff we've seen (IE: The avatar freaking the fuck out), but at the same time, would you showcase a product you knew didn't work completely right? I'dve preferred to have seen the video and walked away with sweet, blissful lies. At least I'd forget them by this time next year.

The concept of Natal is very interesting to me. However I'm worried that the execution is going to be very poor, at least at the start until developers get their initial shovelware garbage out of their systems and look for unique ways to use the technology.

I believe they said they dont intend on making this a MS only technology.. So toss the fan shit away Baj.

The fact that you still need a remote to play the wii makes it nothing innovative to me Baj.. I know you are a fan of the system so that is where this conversation ends. I dont need to deal with an agressive wii mote weilder.

I guess I'm old because I really didn't like any of it. My girl friend liked it though but I didn't buy a 360 for her I bought it to play games and not to move around like a idiot but I would like to see it maybe used for real games maybe.

I think this is great for Microsoft to break in to the casual market like the Wii did. I can't help but feel if this breaks out and does really well, old fashion controller video games are out the window.
