As you may/may not know, I will be coming back to the game and i was interested in starting up as a Bst. I would rather not search the Ki forums and read posts by stupid people. I would like knowelge from bsts like:

Early level subs:

Middle level subs:

Late level subs:

Levelling areas:

Other information:

Actually, scarily enough one of the better levelling guides is on Allah, and it covers most of the levelling areas pretty well (although didn't have all of the ToAU areas when I went through).

For soloing /WHM is pretty solid at most levels. Being able to cure and handle status effects on the fly is as big help solo. Without a curing sub, downtime is much worse, because you're bound to get hit with AoEs and statuses.
The one real exception is Bombs which hit like trucks. Having shadows for mob changes is a real bonus there, and seeing you don't mellee them, you don't have to worry about AoE.

As far as forums go, KI actually has a farily decent BST forum. Not a lot in the way of guides there, but usually plenty of decent advice.

Here you go: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html?fjob=8;mid=115573086281496833;num=17;page=1

That should at least get you started.

In my opinion, /whm works very well to 74 and then I'd probably recommend /nin.

But it's all about what feels most comfortable for you really. Most people prefer /whm most of the way. Some people go /nin. Some people now go /blu.

In the lower levels--hell, even to 33 or so--don't worry so much about chaining or getting amazing exp numbers. Just charm a DC/EM pet and go to town on a bunch of EP-EM mobs. You can try to chain if you have that chance available. You will get bigger numbers killing EM/T of course, but overall your exp will be faster on weaker mobs. And you'll walk out with a shitload of seals.

Feel free to ask as many questions as you like.

Beastmaster Post Update Viable Hunting Grounds

This is a great guide to leveling spots, I used it for the short time I leveled BST. I'm pretty sure you can find this on alla too, but this is much better organized.
That's the one I couldn't find... Good job. :) That right there is the better location guide.

Thanks for the help so far guys. Couple more general questions.

When is a good level to start using jugpets or are jug pets gimp when soloing?

Which jug pets are the best, aside for carrie? (assuming thats the best, since that what i see all the 75 bsts using)

I personally never found jugpets to be terribly useful, as they tend to fight like DC pets but with considerably less HP. I'd wait for more BSTs to give feedback but in my opinion, I wouldn't use one unless you're in a tight spot and really can't afford to risk a mischarm OR if you have a mob on you and there's nothing charmable (or strong enough to be worth charming) near you. Only time I could recall needing to do this though was when someone decided to XP their NPC is Garlaige and occasionally hadto pop a jug so I wouldn't get mowed down by a Hellmine.

In my opinion, jugpets are for:

1) Parties
2) BCNM's/KSNM's
3) Saving your ass when there are no other pets around

That's all. They hit like girls. They take hits like girls. They get all bitchy like girls. They tell you to pick your goddamn socks up off the floor like girls. They tell you to stop whining and eat your vegetables like girls. You get where I'm going with this?

:P

Funguars, tigers, and rabbits are pretty good DD jugs. CC is more of a tank. He's mostly used at 75 because there's not a lot of (affordable) uncapped options.

Do not use jug pets for solo xp. Jug pets are an emergency item to save your ass and buy time while you run and find a natural pet, or run and find the zone, or run and do an emergency logout.

If you go around soloing with jug pets, I reserve the right to point and laugh at you. You're a Beastmaster, so charm. Like Pakomen said, jug pets are for BCNMs or situations when you have a dedicated tank.

As for subjobs, /WHM will take you all the way to 75. /NIN is obviously a healthy option, but I've never used it and can't speak to its merits.

I can hit and take a hit like a man, and by people who really know how to hit lol. I don't get bitchy about it, sometimes it makes me cream my panties. I don't give a fuck where your socks are as long as they aren't smelling up the stuff *I* left on the floor. If you whine I'll smack ya down. I don't care what you eat, but if it makes you fart, you are sleeping on the couch.

If you want to do endgame as bst, you need WAR for a sub and plenty of acc food.

You just made my day with that, thank you. =P

What exactly does a Bst do in endgame? Do SCs with axes, like a normal melee, but with pet?

Pretty much just another DDer...if you can find people that like you. :S

Sorry to derail but Miros your avatar is both cute and creepy...can't quit looking at it. o.O;

GL on BST when you come back. There's plenty of good advise from good BSTs here so I won't be adding too much.

I found Alla quite helpful, it seems low on the 'dipshit' factor that you may see in some of the other areas. Also ffxiclopedia has been very good in answering questions I had.

Jug pets are not so helpful in solo exp situations (unless you in trouble), but its really useful to not only understand where they are beneficial but which one to use. BCNMs, Promivions and other level cap stuff has its place with juggies for sure. It wasn't until I got to 55 and up I really started to leverage jug pets for other things besides level cap stuff. Even @ 75 Crab Familiar is my most used juggie. Yes, it caps @ 55, but I use it much like a SMN uses Carbuncle. If I'm running across a zone, say Bubu, I have a Crab out smackin' gobbies on the way. It's how I have a 100 gil pet return 10X its investment. :) Now that I'm 75, I use Carries for farming from low-EXP mobs. For example, when farming Buffalo in Uleguerand Range, there's no way I'm charming local pets to do my bidding. It'll take too long, and I'll pull hate on the 5th hit. Get to know your juggies here: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Beastmaster_Jugs

End game stuff as BST is fun. Your ability to widescan, handle links/adds, pull, charm-kite etc etc makes you a welcome addition to an informed party or alliance. You may have to inform the public at large about why you kick ass, but once you get a shot, you have the ability to do so.

Lastly, I'll let you in the first rule of BST Club. No beers (or wine/liquor/pot/LSD/pr0n) while getting serious experience points. It's a hangover that you'll regret, trust me. ;)
