Need some Math Help

Ok, I know this is very simple math but for some reason the solution is eluding me. I know we have other programmers here so I’m requesting some help.

I have a ratio 5:4 (i.e. a fraction). To convert that to a decimal you divide 5 by 4 to get 1.25.

Ok, now I need to convert the decimal back to a fraction, which I know how to do, but I need to do it with out having a whole number (i.e. back to 5:4 or the equivalent instead of 1 and 1 / 4).

Just the processes, I can convert the logic into code. I keep getting hung up on the whole number.

1 & 25%

25% = 25/100

25/100 = 1/4

1 & 1/4

1 x denominator = 4

1 & 1/4 = 5/4 = 5:4

I was just gonna say 1 = 4/4, then 4/4 + 1/4 = 5/4 = 5:4

I dunno.

Maybe I'm not as keen with math as I thought.
