Ok so last night I got a new TV. I went from a 15 years old 17'' JVC TV to a brand new 50'' Plasma one (booyah!).

Problem is, FFXI comes out super ugly. Why? ; ;

I play on PS2 and eventho it wasn't High Definition qualtiy, the picture on the 17'' was clear and generally pretty good. Now on the 50'', it looks like it just stretches the picture, making it look all grainy. I played for 2 hours last night and had headaches from trying to read the blurred text.

I also set the image in FFXI to 16:9 from config, that helped... a little. I tried to put it back to 4:3(?) and set the TV picture to 4:3 as well, was clearer but still grainy.

I understand to whole "you need HD peripherics to get HD picture" but when I plugged regular cable in (not HD), eventho the picture wasn't as clear as in the store, it was still much better then when I was playing FFXI.

So what do I need to do? Is the PS2 to old for a TV like that? Anything I need to adjust on the TV? Can it be the connection cables? Do I need a newer console like PS3 or Xbox 360? ; ;[Help me out!]

Edit: I know someone talked about FFXI on PS3 before but I can't for the life of me find that thread. I think PS3 supports or runs with 1080 lines, which the TV can support (I have no clue what I am talking about right now). Would a PS2 game played on PS3 come out in 1080 lines or will I get the same, blurry picture if I were to get a PS3?

Get an Xbox 360. I play on one, and the game is in HD. PS3 is a big paper wieght. *Sony Fanboys united to pwn me* :biggrin:

PS3 will not save you're FFXI from looking like shit on you're new TV.

If i were you i would hook it up to the PC and crank up the GPU settings, then you'll have the best FFXI picture possible on the HDTV.

If you don't have FFXI for PC, you can buy it, or torrent it. Either way you will only have to update it and log in with you're password and ID.

Also you can get a USB adapter for you're PS2 controller that works perfectly. That is if you're interested in playing it on the PC, i know the PS2 controller rules.

Its because XI on PS2 has a standard resolution setting which you cant improve. All the TV did is stretch the image to fit.

even the pc ver isn't supposed to go to a good resolution ~_~ i really feel sorry for people who don't use the reg edits....

Open FFXI Settings in your startmenu and change the resolution. PS2 XI is stuck at 400x320 or somthing, wheras PC can be changed up to 1080x720 i believe.
Reg Edits increase Framerate, Draw Distance, and model resolution.

i got 40' lcd about a month ago and just reinstalled ffxi on my 360 for my wife, looks just fine. not amazing, but better than ps2. i opted against plasma as the store i got mine from informed me of the gas the tv uses and how it degrades over time and needs to be recharged every 5 years or so >.> otherwise id have a 50'
