So i mentioned to some friends about that non stop ringing sound in the ear, and they had no clue what i was talking about. I then realized i was the only one that has it.

It sounds like the noise we make with crystal dinning glasses, only much higher. It has no start and no end. It's a continuous high pitch that sounds like....Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

It's the same sound we get in the ear when we leave a loud place, like a night club or a loud concert, except it's more quiet by i'd say 60%.

I also noticed shocking experiences seem to increase it's tone. Like when i crashed my Ninja and flew 30 feet before i slid on the pavement for a few yards, dispite the fact i could not believe what just happened the ringing sound was going nuts, just as expected. I've been banged up, electrocuted, nearly drowned, broke my arm, smahed my foot on the wall whatever... Any accident i have, this sound seems to stand out. I like to think it's trying to comfort me, by distracting me away from the pain.

It's not so annoying cause it's been there all my life, I can hear very well and i can still enjoy quiet moments, i just never get to experience absolute silence.

So i Google it and it's called "Tinnitus" And different cases has various sounds, buzzing, chirping, hissing, clicking, etc...

Some cases are curable, they even have machines that can reveal the sound. But in my case i have strong doubts this sound can be unveiled to others.

Maybe as you're reading this you'll be reminded of that never ending sound in you're ear if you have it, and maybe you've just realized not everyone has it, and maybe you can get it taken care of.

Were exactly the same mate, I have a ringing in my ear and have had it for about 7-8 years now. Picked it up by going to way too many gigs when i was younger. Only have it in my right ear, its always there but i usually can only hear it properly when its dead quiet like when trying to go to sleep. Mine randomly goes louder then quieter.

I know why yours goes louder after events though, its to do with your blood pressure. When it increases (from say events that happen, like falling off your motorbike) itll make the ringing sound louder then when the pressure begins to fall the sound should start to go as well.

I've already mentioned mine to a doctor he said come back in a month and hell say if theres anything he can do about it, although he said its very doubtful there is anything. So I didnt bother, ill just live with it.

I have hearing loss as well and the occasional ringing. Mine comes from one major event. When I was 12 we were on a family fishing vacation. We got caught out on the lake in a rain storm so when we got in we were all soaked. I was drying off in my room when lightning struck the powerline or the air conditioner itself. Either way the result was an overload, a load explosion, and blue fire above my head. I was functionally deaf for a couple days, loud nonstop ringing for weeks, months of frequent but lessened ringing, to where now I am decent.

My doctor has told me I have a weird pattern of hearing loss though. Supposedly my low and high frequency range is still pretty good. I lost most of my hearing in the mid-range.

Is it a sound almost like the hi-frequency pitch you get from a TV? I've had that sound in my ears for... well, as long as I can remember. My mom says it might be due to a series of serious ear infections I got as a child or high blood pressure. I know my blood pressure is fine so, I'm unsure.

I know when I was really young I couldn't ignore it and I would cry because it wouldn't stop, or be kept up at night because I couldn't stop listening to it. That's really weird. Any time I try to describe it to people they just sorta tilt their head at me.

I hate to be the one to break the bad news to you, but I think you might be in trouble...

That would drive me bat shit fucking insane. I've gotten the same noise in my ear on ocassion, sometimes it just appears randomly for no reason that I know of, but only maybe once a year on average, and it goes away within a few minutes. The only time I can think of that I know what caused it was when I was on dxm, and I got this really bad headrush that didn't go away for several minutes. It wasn't like the good kind of headrush that you get from standing up too fast and makes everything go black for a few seconds, it was uncomftorable and scary. My brother was standing over me saying something, and slowly everything went silent except for this ringing and I was lightheaded and dizzy. I hate that stupid ringing whenever I get it, however rarely.

Trippy beat it to me. You have tinnitus. There's nothing "dangerous" about it most of the time. Its just really, really annoying. Varies from very high to barely noticeable. Occasionally ringing is normal.

It can, in some cases, be treated with sound therapy.

I have to say, though, I love how in the article Trippy mentioned, they say "In almost all cases the ringing can only be heard by the patient". I'd love to know what those other cases are where others can hear the ringing >.>

And it will become more common, as most teenagers love to listen to music at the highest possible volumes, and standing right by the speakers at concerts where the sound is too high to even be able to hear your own thoughts. All of these can cause tinnitus.

It's from all that damn rock music!

And Exc this one time I got a huge ass head rush when I was in this weird park behind my buddies house. I went like blind for 5 minutes and tried to make it out of the park with out vision lmao.

5 minutes?! damn, nice one. I love headrushes, one of the many perks to smoking pot. With THC in my system(even if I'm not high atm), I get really intense headrushes, and it's awesome, almost like doing a really quick short drug, like wippets. The best one I ever got I blacked out for a good 30 seconds, and I couldn't remember where or even who I was. It's the wierdest feeling, not knowing who you are...I wish I could get ones like that all the time.

Anyways, continue on.

I had a friend who had this who just suddenly lost his hearing in 1 ear.

I have this too. Not sure if it's the same thing you have though.
For me after taking a bath I use the hair dryer to dry out my ears. What's causing it is moisture buildup in your inner ear. I also use ear plugs when I take a shower.
After a couple of weeks if you keep from gettings sick, stuffy nose, etc.... It should clear up.

If you leave it, you could end up with it life time, or, lose your hearing.

As for me I just got sick and it came back. Trying the hair dryer remedy and ear plugs again. The noise though has never been a problem for me, I grew up in a place that had super duper loud cricket like screeming insects during the nights, I guess I got used to ringing, lol. The noise hardly bothers me at all, but I do notice it.

Kinda sounds like..... softer screeming crickets, not the small ones, these crickets make a constant sound.

I had that for a night. Turns out it was a tiny little subtle sound coming from my Nintendo DS. Not sure why.

Some random nights I have something similar to it. Its not in my ear, its in my head. I'll hear a loud nothing. It's when everything is so quiet, and I'm lieing in bed, I just hear loud almost pitching noise. But again its not in my ear, I can feel it in my head.

We're all fucked.

Speaking of quiet, the worst sound ever is the sound of nothing. Absolutely nothing. No cars, no footsteps, no wind, no animals, no nothing. At the countryside, I live in the middle of nowhere. Almost every night is like that. Going outside the house then means its pitch black. Its so dark you can't even see your hand if its 10 cm in front of you on nights that have no moon. That, mixed with the sound of absolutely nothing, is the weirdest feeling ever.

And seriously, the absence of all sound makes it feel like your ears are going to explode... Normally there's always some kind of sound present that you don't think of, such as the sound of wind going through the leaves, so its very rare to hear absolutely nothing. Seriously, if that's how it feels to be deaf...

I love that feeling, actually. It makes hearing anything else that much sweeter.

I love the sound of absolute silence. There have been times where I was out jogging at night on the outskirts of my town in the middle of nowhere and I could hear absolutely nothing if I stopped. It's actually quite an amazing feeling to hear nothing but a footstep or my own heart beating after a good sprint. I wish I could get my house that soundproof.

Tinnitus is a symptom most times, not an answer. People live with Tinnitus because they can. People also ignore the seriousness of their condition, because it's easy, and get worse. I'd be worried about what, internally, caused Tinnitus, if you even have it to begin with. You can do things to yourself to cause Tinnitus but in the process, something else causes Tinnitus and it can happen to other parts of your body. If you do go get checked, don't let the doctor take the Tinnitus easy road so he can move on about his day quicker. If he can explain why you have Tinnitus, what caused it, and if it's neutralized let him go on. You could have done this to yourself as well, if he can tell you what you damaged and how he knows it was self-inflicted let him go.

Best case scenario you did it to yourself from some sort of minor trauma and it's a one time deal. Worst case scenario, you get admitted to the hospital and tons of test ran on your head to figure out what's causing this and hopefully they can stop it before it continues to other places on your body.

Well said Strid. It really is easy to ignore even though mine is perpetual.

Like i said i've had it since i was a child. Although i do remember this one time, i must have been 4 or 5 years old. My father took me to Carabana. Back then it wasn't such a big event. I remember i wandered off into a crowd and this 18 wheeler was passing by the crowd and it was blasting music really loud. At that stage in my life i've never heard something so loud. I also nearly got trampled to death. I was too young to remember much, but i always had this ringing in my ear as far as i can remember.

Thanks for the replies everyone, i enjoyed reading them. Even the ones about how nice absolute silence is.
