This has only become of an inconvenience to me, but then I realised 3/5 times unless it was those prized/common items (Scorpion Harness, Haubergeon, Peacock Charm, Vermillion Cloak, Baskot :nyam: Aketon, etc), I had to look up what it is elsewhere. (Open new window, look it up, search, and especially on alla, it takes long to load, if I wanted to read comments).

When people post to sell items, I suggest that people should post the stats of the item. Or at least a link (Somepage/alla) or the image, of the item. This of course, only applies to items like gear. For other items, at least state its purpose. Like Shrimp Lantern, is to pop Shen for the Reverend Mail (therefore this should be linked to the appropiate page, but not the Shrimp Lantern), or Hakutaku Cluster, used to pop Hakutaku which drops the Optical Hat (insert link to Optical Hat).

Good Example: http://www.qcdn.org/showthread.php?p=436465#post436465

Bad Example: http://www.qcdn.org/showthread.php?t=29650

This is to potentially boost interest and hopefully increase the rate of sales. No good if someone reads it and are potentially lazy to NOT find out what it does, at least the info the user posts which for an additional 2 minutes or so of typing and linking, can boost the chance of a sale. There are people like that, there's no denying it, and especially if they have to do it multiple times, some people will not know what it does, but are too lazy to go search it up. So some stats, and its purpose, will help potential buyers.

Well, that may help sales and all, but I dont think that it sholud become a rule or policy at all. Most of the people looking to buy items have a clue what they want. It would just be more of an annoyance to post the links. Its a good idea for people unfamiliar with the items they want. But, I think the majority know.

I agree with LadyKiKi on this. How hard is it to put up image tags and a URL, or at least list the stats? Newer players like myself don't know every item and its every use so seeng the stats may cause what once was ignored to becoe a sale. Takes one minute tops.

It certainly can't hurt to mention details, but I'd have to guess that most people who look in the AH thread already know exactly what items they're looking for. There are far better places to look if you're trying to figure out what stuff you might want to buy, such as the Advanced Search on somepage, http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/advanced.php, where you can specify race, job, level range, type of item, and even a particular characteristic such as singing skill or evasion. It'll tell you if the item is available from an NPC, and usually, if so, for how much gil. You can then check the AH, bazaars, and the AH thread here to find the best price. If you're using the AH thread to find items you don't already know about, you're taking a lot longer to get less information than you could elsewhere.

I understand you, but the point is, I, and I'm sure others, browse the AH board like a "shop". For example, I won't want to find out exactly what I want, but rather, browse and see what's available and who is selling what so I might want to buy it. Like how one would browse the AH while idle in Jueno, I want to do exactly that, in a way.

I don't go shopping only to come back home and find out what it is, I go shopping to get all the details and then decide whether to buy it or not. It might be a girl thing to you guys, but hey, it's important to me. :nyam:

I've found most times the items that are put up for sale here are intended to be bought by people actually seeking them, not people window shopping.

For instance if I'm selling a Wrath Tabar, I don't expect anyone but a BST to be interested in it and don't feel the need to list its stats. Same could be said for an astral ring, for instance. The people who want an astral ring are the people who are going to buy it, not someone who is just prowling the AH boards.

If someone wants to know the stats on an item it doesn't take more than 20 seconds to go to somepage and look it up.

Is it nice for a seller to do? Sure. Necessary or even required? Not a chance.

Is there an open source repository where I can get a dump of the items, its stats and maybe an icon or pic?

I know there are sites that offer this service but it wouldn't be right for me to just steal that from them, ya know?
