New Berserk anime project announced!

Rumored for a while, but now confirmed!

I just wonder if they will remake the original (low budget) series from '97 or if they will animate the Conviction arc.
As a big fan of the series I welcome this news with open arms.

Will this be a direct sequel to the old berserk? I was really sad when I watched the cliffhanger ending of the first one and found I'd never get to finish because I don't read manga xD

Well, they certainly have enough material in the manga to work through rather than worrying about catching up because Miura is so godawful slow.

(Yes, I know his art takes time, and yes, I know such things can't be rushed, but screw you, I can complain anyway)

Ugh, honestly I don't think this is warranted, espcially if it takes time away from Miura working on the manga. At the rate he's cranking that thing out he's gonna keel over and die before he finishes the story.

The old anime was absolutely spectacular, but what I liked about it most was the ending. It did what no other anime I've seen has done:
Spoiler:
end with the bad guys winning.

So if the this thing is just Berserk season 2, I'll be a bit irked.

I fucking loved Berserk, until it ended. (like most people, I assume) So to hear it's getting another anime release is pretty awesome. I really do hope they continue on from where the last series ended rather than redo it from the start with a new take or shortened story.

Spoiler:
I didn't mind that it ended with the bad guys winning either, what I minded was that it ended without showing an end to the story, without showing an end to the events that happened. Had they just killed Guts and been like "Hahaha we win." I think I'd have been okay with that because it would have been an end, some kind of finality. But no, it shows him sometime later after the final events and the story continues yet the anime just ends.

The anime was supposed to be nothing more then a low budget, late night gig which happened to become immensely popular in Japan and the rest of the world.

I watched that series kind of recently. Was recommended to me from a friend of mine. I thought it was pretty awesome other than the cliffhanger of course as mentioned by many already.

That was really just because the story itself hadn't ended at that point. Hell, the guy's still writing the damn manga over a decade later with no end in sight. I agree that it would be nice to have some closure to the whole story, but until it gets written I can't really think of a better point in the story to end it than where they did in the anime. If they'd kept following the manga past that point it would have ended on an even less fulfilling note. It's much better than having Guts duke it out with some of Griffith's underlings and just hang it up there without even fighting the arch villain again.

The Eclipse was the one good stopping point in the story and they made it work beautifully, even if it didn't bring closure to the story as a whole.

If I had to guess, I'd wager they'd take it up to chapter 307 or so, though that would in all likelihood take more than a single season worth of episodes. That gives them a logical stopping point, and in theory will be one of the last major plot shifts before (one hopes) Miura gets off his ass and finishes the story.

YAY!!! Here's hoping they stay on track <3

do you think they will continue from where they left ? or start from the start , anyway did it say when it going to start airing ?
anime news network is blocked here >_>

Unsure as of yet, my personal hope is that they continue where they ended the original TV series.

As fro Miura finishing the story any time soon...
Don't even bet on it, although the speed of the chapter and tankoban releases doesn't specificly have to do with Miura's art taking time.
Miura-san himself is quite an avid gamer that lets that hobby sometimes take precedence over his other projects... :)

I believe a friend of mine told me that the delay between tankobans 33 ~ 35 was caused by a game called the Idolm@ster.

I hope they can get the same animators/artists, music composer, and voice actors :O

I hope they do too! The PS2 Berserk game had all the voice actors from the TV series.

Guts' war cries are so haunting *-*

Ditto. For being a "low budget" anime project, they really did an amazing job.

Agreed!
I even loved the bad guitar in the opening and the ending song that you needed to be partially insane to understand.

Tell me why, tell me why... tell me what you waaaant~

Oh god yes! The music was top notch, especially the weird opening.

Put your glasses on..... nothing will be wong!
