Beta phase 1 begins mid February and all legacy members get automatic access! I think that's just me.

Here's the link to see the roadmap: http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/teaser/index2.html

From my calculation the game will launch in June/July.

Oh and by the way, that FFXIII PS3 beta code for XIV can be used in phase 3! :)

Legacy status means you were a subscriber until they took the servers down, right? Or is it something else?

I believe it was that you had to be an active paid subscriber for 3 straight months within a certain time period to become legacy, I got mine this past summer. Means you pay a lower monthly fee and get extra characters cheaper or something to that tune.

They should give me Legacy for even paying for that shitty game.

I forgot that a few others here had legacy as well.

Legacy is a status with a basket of benefits you receive for paying for at least 3 months from when they started charging to play to the end of september 2012. It didn't have to be 3 months in a row, but it just had to be 3 months total.

Benefits include:

Early Beta access in Feb. 2013.
$9.99 monthly subscription instead of $12.99
40 characters to create instead of 8.
In game special items at launch (I believe)

I have Legacy however - they have already sent out email for the Beta in Feb. but I didn't get one this time around. I guess they are doing it in waves again.

PS3 beta in phase 3.

okay

So is this newer FFXIII with codes or older ones?

Kinda interested to give FFXIV a go again :P I miss FFXI so, but ya.

Also, I really wish they'd give free to play model a try. Bet it'd work out well. People love pretty skins and such.

They should give me legacy for buying the PC collectors edition of this POS game when it first came out.

That's uh, kinda what I said. lol

Many agree with you.

If you bought the CE Edition, you can download the FFXIV:ARR CE edition for free.

Good god, no. XI didn't need it, XIV doesn't need it. SE is pretty good with their subscription models, and despite the angst and rage some people have about XI, it's fairly well taken care of.

Pretty good with their subscription models? They have basically 15 bucks a month and that's about it last I remember. And for a game that's that old which always had a bad interface? Especially for PC gamers? Ya, I'd say that's a problem. And subscription based models need to just die out. Making someone pay for the game, then pay for it monthly is just a bit much. And then there are offenders who make you pay for the game, pay monthly, and then have an in game store to buy other crap that should be given to people anyways. People paying monthly shouldn't have to pay for any other content. The pay check they get is due to the monthly fee, any content created while that monthly fee is enacted should be given to the person :| just not ethical imo.

Besides, free to play model tends to work phenomenally well for MMOs. It's saved many dying MMOs.

I'm going to agree with Alereth on this one. The sub models is what keeps the customer service going at SE in terms of account help, GM's patrolling, and the quick updates. Sure F2P saves MMO's but FFXI isn't exactly sinking. If I saw correctly, FFXI has a solid 230,000 subscribers still judging from FFXIAH.com and I think it'll stay there with this expansion coming out. It also keeps out the children in the game and people who don't take FFXI seriously at all, which many of us don't like. And the trolls.

When a game is F2P, it gives game developers an excuse to be lazy. They think a cash option shop is good enough and will worry about dishing out extra content later. I've seen it too many times.

FFXIV:ARR on the other hand, is do or die right now. We'll see on that one.

We're also supposed to get some sort of "aura" around our character as well. Specifically, Yoshi P said our characters will be easily more distinguishable from a non-legacy player, then he went off the cuff about an aura.

Davion, the beta hasn't even started yet, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The in-game item was a unique looking chocobo mount, as well as a 'mark' somewhere on our character's bodies. It's possible it will be toggle-able though. You're still able to apply for beta, even if you don't have Legacy, and they're accepting applications now.

As far as pay-to-play vs free-to-play, it's been a subject of quite a bit of debate on the lodestone forums. Yoshi (game director) has responded by saying that right now they have no plans to implement anything other than a subscription model, though they will look into alternate plans. (Basically, we'll think about it, but not any time soon).

I should have clarified. A friend of mine that does play FFXIV with me on my same server, received a beta invite before the alpha test was about to end. We asked him to make double sure he wasn't misreading the email and sure enough it was a Beta testing email saying that he has been accepted and he is also Legacy. That's why I was a little curious about how they were going about it this time around since Legacy players don't have to apply.
