New comp suggestions?

In dynamis type situations (beseiged/gods/dynamis) my graphics card always goes nuts like this; recently it frequently does this for no reason..

My laptop has become out of date, running slowly (even after defragging) - it currently is using an ATI mobility radeon 9200 on windows XP professional, mobile intel pentium 4 with 2.8 GHz CPU, 510MB ram.

I was planning on getting a new Desktop (mainly for starcraft/warcraft/ffxi & Storage (anime/projects and papers)... So i wouldnt need that great of a gfx card, just enough to run ffxi smoothly.

Was hoping for some insight on what core parts for the desktop should i have, like gfx card, processor, etc. Also what should i use to replace my old gfx card on my laptop? I would be thrilled and deeply grateful any help or suggestions.
 
Depends on how much money you have. The comp im on is middle of the road AGP, you could probably get the Gfx Card i use for like 40 bucks but it does lag in some spots. If you have the money id go PCI-e and get like a 6800 if you dont want to spend several hundred dollars. This site, Monarch Computers is a good site for building custom comps and i think they have decent barebone pcs. Check prices too at tigerdirect and newegg, youll probably save money buying the parts from diffrent sites but that means some manual labor which we all know sucks.

Both Intel and AMD is good since your not looking for making uber computer :P ram you should get at least 1GB, 512MB is too low now aday
get Geforce 7 series card, you don't need 7800 or 7900 if you on budget, there is a 7600 for less then $100 i think and make sure your motherboard support PCI-E or PCIEx16, thats for destop :P for laptop, umm sorry

Oh well what type of motherboards are in each AGP or PCI, as that determines pretty much everything

I was wondering, even though the game doesn't require 1GB of RAM, but in intense areas such as Dynamics would 1Gb cut down the lag?
 
Have you tried using driver cleaner and updating your drivers? Your screenshots show an issue that is usually because of screwy video card drivers.

You also picked a funny time to upgrade... if you can wait maybe 2-3 months you can go for intel's latest offering which totally destroys anything on the market right now and slap in a DX10 card.

Then again it won't help FFXI very much since it's a POS these days for a game engine.
