New Famitsu article about FFXIV

Are we playing the same game?

I'm not sure what game you're playing.

The single biggest buff that Squeenix has given Samurai is also the single biggest buff that Squeenix has given Dragoon, but you complain about the effects for Samurai. People may not have have said lolSAM as much as they did lolDRG back in 2004/2005, but it was still a second-class DD on everything except HNM, where Meditate still made it useful.

For the record, I don't have anything against you, I just think the statement that SAM is Squeenix's "golden child" is misinformed and not supported by anything other than your personal feelings.

And here i thought RDM got all the love /shurg 8P

I just had three paragraphs typed up in response to your post and lost them due to changing pages by accident..., but if you can't see the job imbalances with both Sam and War compared to pretty much every DD in the game on your own then I'm not going to bother wasting my time pointing them out again.

so can we say Thaumaturge is the new drk/blm/rdm ?

Marauder Abilities:
Blood Bath: The damage you give the enemy turns into HP for you
Power Attack: Increases the chance of critical hits
Defender:
Use your Axe to increase your physical defense in exchange for not being able to attack
Disorient:
Lower the enemy’s evasion
Unyielding March:
Can move, albeit slowly, even when hit with binding magic
Weapon Skills:
Skull Thunder: Lasting damage on the enemy or gather your power to create a wider AoE attack.
Log Splitter: Very affective attack against plant-type enemies.
Fracture: If used after parrying an enemy attack, you can seal the enemy’s ability to use weapon skills while damaging them.
Brandish: AoE attack
Iron Tempest: A donut-shaped AoE wind elemental attack

Looks like DRK with a splash of WAR to me.

From what we've seen so far, it's hard to classify jobs in FFXIV in terms of historical Final Fantasy jobs, but I think that's the point.

I've never claimed that SAM and WAR aren't top-tier, general-purpose DDs. A properly-equipped DRG is also a top-tier DD (albeit less general-purpose), especially on anything piercing-weak.

Some job has to be at the top. Unless you'd rather have every DD-oriented job at the exact same level.

But even then, they wouldn't really be, would they? BLU and DNC would be able to self-cure, putting them above the rest yet again.

My argument has been with the idea that Squeenix is somehow sucking SAM's dick, as opposed to having jobs specialized in certain aspects. I just suppose you'd rather have it be DRG on top, regardless of the fact that it's the most efficient healer in the game, MP:HP?

What is it that you want?

Looks like you quoted the Marauder info rather than the Thaumaturge info, which makes your quoting of Dayner somewhat confusing.

Ultimately, that would probably in fact be the goal of a push towards balancing various jobs. Though not "DD oriented", but rather the pure melee DD jobs. Which, oddly enough, excludes DRG, what with the ability to self-cure at high levels of efficiency. Though, all things considered, it wouldn't hurt to have DRG up there with the rest, really. At least with an offensive subjob.

My main complaint is that the various jobs don't offer the same level of performance in a wide variety of circumstances. DRK has been basically relegated to a zerg job, or a DD if you can't find the one you actually want. Whereas WAR and SAM both function quite well in the zerg role, and can actually get an invite to a merit party without overmuch effort.

I'm not sure exactly what happened to MNK, or at what point the job apparently became undesirable, but it seems to have happened. I blame the 2-hand update and the utility of /SAM.

Yep, you read my mind. That is exactly what I want. Clearly that was my intent when I made my initial post. I will however say that the Drg/mage and the piercing weak mobs comments are irrelevant since them main healing a party in anything outside of a meripo is extremely limited due to the wyvern being so fraile, and having such a short casting range. Anything that uses an AoE would tear it up in a matter of seconds. And the piercing weakened mobs because Sam and War can put out similar numbers, and in some circumstances even better than some of the best geared Drgs, with a B- skill to boot.

I'm just going to end this here before this thread gets derailed any further. No sense in arguing over something that's already as clear as day.

I quoted Marauder because it looked more similar than the Thaumaturge in nature. I didn't say so, but I should have.
