You don't say!

I don't think games cause school-shooting violence, but you can't say they don't cause any violence. When we were younger my little brothers and I would play Mortal Kombat by throwing each other off of couches, and we used to nerf-gun Contra almost daily.

I think with little kids any kind of (movies, video games, etc) violence is very inimitable and should be monitored. But that's part of parenting, protecting your young from harm.

Cats say moo!

In all seriousness though this'll be the book that little Jack wants to ban.

Jack actually might be getting sued. http://www.dailytech.com/Jack+Thomp...+Show+Cause+by+Supreme+Court/article10819.htm

Whenever a tragedy occurs, it is virtually a given that Florida attorney Jack Thompson is making a beeline for the nearest media outlet to voice his predictable opinion that video games were the cause of the violent outburst, and has made several attempts to use the legal system to further his cause; however, the Florida Supreme Court appears to be striking back.
02/19/2008 ORDER-SHOW CAUSE
TO: JOHN BRUCE THOMPSON
It appears to the Court that you have abused the legal system by submitting numerous frivolous and inappropriate filings in this Court.

Therefore, it is ordered that you shall show cause on or before March 5, 2008, why this Court should not find that you have abused the legal system process and impose upon you a sanction for abusing the legal system, including, but not limited to directing the Clerk of this Court to reject for filing any future pleadings, petitions, motions, letters, documents, or other filings submitted to this Court by you unless signed by a member of The Florida Bar other than yourself.
His reply:
This is the single greatest gift that any court has ever given me in my 31 years of practicing law. I shall now, through a new federal lawsuit, deconstruct The Florida Bar ... This court has threatened Thompson. He does not threaten back. He hereby informs this court that he will see it in federal court.
I was gonna wait until tomorrow to post this and hopefully have some post-court details... but eh. Go justice go!

The idea that games don't cause violence at all is suspect. At the very least games can cause violence just like anything else that angers a person can. I know there have been games in the past that made me angry, and I know i've seen at least a couple friends get extremely pissed off and stand-offish after losing some tough boss fights.

The idea that Grand Thef Auto type games make people want to go out in real life and simulate the game is laughable. Games don't overwrite peoples sense of right and wrong. People are going to play games like that because they find them entertaining. I also think people who want to do violence to begin with will play games instead to let out their frustration, not the other way around. .... Most of the time.

I play games to chill out. However, I'm not gonna lie, I can get pretty pissed off when playing them too. You probably here alot of 'Fuck that' and 'Aww thats bull shit' coming out of my office when I play AA but thats about it. And if anything its always a good way to take anger out. To say videogames cause shootings or w/e is bull shit as a whole. Sure its possible that some dumb fuck could go shoot some people because of a game, but its just as possible that same person could get an idea like that from say the movie "Shoot em up". There will always be stupid people who do stupid shit regardless of what type of games are on the market, music on the radio or movies in the theater. Also I love how its always the people who obviously have never touched a video game in their life, who rip them to shreds.

I would agree, it is very laughable. The only way games could cause violence is if they did nothing but payed violent games to the point of brain wash. Which be near impossible to do. More so it is human nature to resort to violence as last measure and anti-social behavior, which a percentage of gamers have making them a target of violent crimes, due to losing all hope of living; but want to take others with them.

I'm man enough to admit games provoke violence.

Ex. What would happen if your wife/husband/dad/mom/brother/sister/friend came into your room to bitch about something just when you were ninja-lotted out of an item you really wanted for a long time? Violence happens!

that case isn't exactly worthy because, yes it happens in the game but it is because of a human that there would be anger to come about. The game didn't decide for that player to screw you outta an item :P the player did.

Yeah, you being violent had nothing to do with the video game, it was all on the person who just screwed you over. The video game was just the medium, it could have been a phone call or done in person and you'd be just as pissed off.

Games cause anger. Anger leads to violence. JT ignores that segregation.

Along with feeling girls up on trains! *rimshot*

Anyone who has done in research in the field of psychology, or in any field of science, could tell you straight from the start that video games are unlikely to cause violence for one simple reason. The basic idea is that correlation does not imply causation (just because you notice people who play video games are more violent doesn't mean it causes it), and that there could be a third variable that causes both (e.g., People who are introverted may be more likely to play video games and more likely to be violent, thus introversion causes violence as they are holding in their emotions).

Think you might be confusing emotion with violence. In the case you supplied here if you was reading and a person started bitch right as you was at a good part, would you not be angry then to? That is a emotion. What some experts are trying to prove is that games/movies cause you to take that emotions of anger and because you play games about killing people you get brain washed into thinking killing people is right.

That's subliminal distraction. Interesting subject, to say the least... just found this yesterday:

Virginia Tech Shooting

The subject of this site is Subliminal Distraction.

Intense exposure to this subliminal stimulation can produce psychiatric outcomes.

Those outcomes can be seen in failed Qi Gong and Kundalini Yoga experiences.

Depression, fear, paranoia, and psychotically disturbed reasoning are some of those outcomes.

Two of Seng-Hui Cho's suite-mates gave interviews in which they named behaviors that would have exposed him to SD.

Neither person in the interview understood the significance of what they saw.

The video he left indicates he was having an ongoing mental break.
Interviews of suitemates on two Cable TV programs revealed Cho sat in the common room using his laptop and studying while the other residents walked around him ignoring him. He increased that behavior in the month before the shooting.

That’s Subliminal Distraction.

In the field of Design the mental event it causes is thought to be a harmless temporary period of confusion and psychotic-like behavior. But what happens if the exposure is low-level and long-term rather than massive in a short time frame? Intensive short term exposure usually happens because of the nature of business offices.

Seng-Hui Cho's exposure happened at a low level over a longer time period.

Sorry for the topic-tangent derail.
