New HNM(s)?

First confirmed HNM in this expansion is the Sandworm: http://www.bluegartrls.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26433&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

It's in between Behemoth and Fafnir in difficulty, has very high defense, hits very hard and has very ugly TP moves

-One absorbs the buffs from the agro target which have to be dispelled
-One strips you of all gear (would need re-equip macros for this, especially on the tank)
-One does extremely high spike damage that can one shot a NIN if not absorbed

SMN and BLM (or anyone with magic) do very good damage on this mob where as melee are next to worthless as they hit for 0's mostly and only give him TP to own everyone with

No confirmed drops yet, title is Sandworm Wrangler.

Roams Rolanberry, Sauromugue, Batallia {S} and switches zones frequently. Respawn time unknown.

Fought this day one in batallia downs with a bunch of JPs in a pick up 12 person party.

Some missed things about it. FYI took us a hour to kill with 9 then later 12 with us.

-Steals your food AOE(from worm)
-Unsummons all Magical pets(Jug pets get auto released if hit) Charmed pets become uncharmed and will run to the original Beastmaster as if they naturally became uncharmed(basically they are free and they want to attack you now).
-Knockback is directional front
-The Buff/food/Magical unsummon is from the same TP move(just random effect of the three), its AoE based on original target(like a Ga spell target)
-Has a Directional TP move that resets all your currently awaiting Job Abilitys to as if you had used them. I can confirm this as my Gauge(never use) and killer instinct(no macro for it) were all grayed out along with the rest of my JA's and 2 hour, awaiting there max timers(upto 2 hours duh).
-If you run to far away and you suddently become highest on hate list, Worm will draw to YOU. no the traditional Draw in. Sorta like Prudence teleport to one with most Enmity.
-after about 45mins it goes crazy and hits very hard.
-Food and buffs stolen seem to add to it as chat log describes "1 of ???'s effects was absorbed" is displayed, this is protect food, etc.

Now if you think this bastards fun, Go die in a Gnat pit. They "Camp + Swarm" your body I'm told. As in they agro dead bodies, and just wait for you to get raised so they can eat you.

Mandies in some zones semi-agro you like Goldfish in Sea do.

Killing Pixies/Sprites will gain you a level of hate to them to where they will not Cure you or raise your dead body when they pass by. Can lower your hate by over time with the suspected /kneel(same for Odin), to them to lower hate I'm told.
Edit: Correction, it involves a quest sorta like tonberrys, but needs you to get a Bottled Fairy off of a beastman, extremely rare drop i hear. Completing quest resets all hate.

it can be a tough fight, you need a lot of heavy healing and magic damage

If it's between Behe and Faf in difficulty... it's not hard >.>

This HNM is just a ripoff of the Sand worms in the movie "Betelgeuse." It's the whole alternate universe thing... Either that, or those crappy "Tremors" movies... I liked it better when Squaresoft would rip off the Star Wars movies. LolBiggs and Wedge

I don't think it's been mentioned, but you guys do know this monster was mentioned by an NPC in Southern Sandoria. I haven't checked all the NPC's in the past, I wonder if there are any other clues to some baddies wandering around...

Sandworms actually originate from Dune (1984?) I think.

Can't really complain that it's a ripoff though, since 9/10 mobs in RPGs are based off of mythology or actual, existing creatures. Quadav and Yagudo are virtually the only unique (for the most part) mobs in the entire FFXI universe.

Or... it could have just been from the giant worms they used in other final fantasy games. Just a thought.

... ... ...nah, I stand by my post.

PS: I'm most certain the mob was born from those other FF monsters, like FFVI's Zone Eater. Was only having a bit of fun, lighten up.

I fought this worm in West Saruta a couple days ago. I used pld/nin and it wasn't too hard to hold hate but the the AoE moves are ruthless. Stripping you of gear and every buff including food in a single move is rough. I don't have macros written to completely re-equip myself so I almost got killed a couple times. Not too bad of a fight but /nin would be recommended or have actual healers. The group I fought this with was just people put together after a campaign battle so we didn't have a real good setup.

Peace,
Shmed

There were also sandworms in Phantasy Star..
