New Job Discussion: Let's speculate

There a billion threads just like this one on allakhazam. :/

last I checked this wasn't alla :P

What a great thread!

I have been working on this for sometime too! I have been thinking heavily about the Time Mage for quite some time right now, and here is what I have come up with...
*Time Mage*

Everyone likes the idea of a time mage because we all know it would definately work well in the game. So heres some ideas... the basic theme was the Time Mage uses spells that affect the party/enemy by manipulating time magic. It would be mostly enfeelbles and buffs that fit the theme of "manipulating time". Some of these spells would include:

~Haste (ga)
~Slow (ga)
~Gravity (ga, possibly an AOE version of it?)
~Demi (I dont know if it would be affected on "boss" type monsters, what I DO know is that it would have a hell of a long recast time... to nerf the "godliness of its effect" 10min recast)
~Stop (late game spell of course, it will be a mix of bind, silence, and paralyze effect... or something of the sort)
~Regen/Refresh (maybe... its a definite possibility, i dont know if they did get these spells how long untill they get it but yeah... just a possibility)
~Bind
~Blink (some wind spells like Ryio has mentioned... maybe Aero based spells, ill think of some later)
~Shunt (kind of like a version of "Stun")
~Immoblize (stops the enemy from doing anything for an extended period of time, late game spell)
~Delay (delays the actions of the enemy, makes it a longer time to complete a certain action like attacks, spells, and wepon skills)

Some of its traits/abilitys would be:

~Cooldown Decrease (Time Mages version of fast cast, but since the Time Mage spells would probably require heavy downtime, several of these traits would be added to reduce the overall downtime of a spell... I think its neat...)
~Movement Speed Increase (slightly... hehe... not to make it too overpowered... infact maybe the second version of this ability could incease the entire partys movement speed... heh... like running away from mobs getting easier... )

Some other spells and traits/abilities too, maybe some spells that deal somewhat damage, but not too much on that...but we dont really want it to be pure enfeebling/buffing either... make it somewhat versitile; main focus will be on the buffing and enfeebling the party... I haven't come up with a solid two-hour, because all the 2hrs i did come out with turned out to be really cheezy, overpowered, or didnt fit into the Time Mage feel very well...

So what do you guys think?

I personally do not think that geomancer could ever be implimented...
For this sole reason. All of thier techniques are based on what land they are currently on. Leveling spots are too slecetive to really use all of the Gemancer's abilities effectively. Like say, in Valkurm Dunes. You could have many diffrent abilities, but could only use the one based on Sand ground, or water if you fight by the beach... Not enough land XD

But thats just my opinion.

Not if they made it where it uses tools/catalyst items, say being able to cast the Water based spells on sand, if equipping the item "Vial of water" into ammo, you can cast the spells from that element wherever you are regardless of terrain, the Geo tools could be crafted with alchemy that get's used up like NIN tools, or a quest item you stick in ammo slot that doesn't get used up. Also they could have the spells be affected by the current weather in the area too. Another thing I heard, rumorwise about Geomancers being put into this, they could be tank based, using elemental shields from their terrain/weather to reduce the damage received. There's a lot of possibilities SE could act on, they just need to hurry the hell up and announce the other jobs :P

Sounds like the ideal distraction for bandwagon hoppers then. I'm all for it. Get all of the bandwagoneers in one place. Blm is overcrowded, and I don't like being the new job of the month.

It's happening to Monks. Freaking Ranger defects. Shoo.

we could sit here and debate possible jobs until doomsday, we'll just have to wait and see.

all i wanna know is, when the hell is SE gonna give us a spell to turn the mobs into chickens or frogs...those were always my favorite things to do in old FF's. /grin

(and i would LOVE to see the confuse spell put into the game, it would be a riot to see your tank go crazy and beat the shit out of the whm, or an insane BLM start casting thundaga 3 on your own PT, lmao.

There's such a thing as a sane BLM? /laugh

I'd like to see this, I'd like to see that. I'm just glad SE is throwing some more variety in the mix. Hopefully get rid of some of these SMN that are cramping my style. We used to be as rare as all getout. Now, a dime a dozen.

As a BLM though, I do want to see a Geomancer. Someone that can contend with BLM and flare ego's for supremacy in the elemental arts. Shits and Giggles kinds of stuff.

From what I have heard about BLU, it will be a viable contender against BLM damagewise, but not gonna be sure til ToAU releases, that or SE gives more info :P

== Fencer ==

Ive been thinking on this one and it hit me that FFXI doesnt really have a sole sword based job. I mean sure PLD use sword, but they are to tank and they have white magic. Warriors CAN use swords, but they end up using GAs and Axes, almost never swords. Ablities for these Fencers could have something to do with diffrent sword techniques, used just like spells that involve hitting vital points and such. This class could specialize more in thins like fencing weapons and bilbos, similar to RDM swords. I could imagine this being a very agile class too.

Using bilbos wouldn't be good... low base damage. Too me this would be just like a paladin in attack gear using a company sword (with the right equipment it could work in an exp party, even if you are tanking) with some abilities.

==Berskerer==

Okay, here we are looking at a class that is pure damage.
Maybe have a set of skills that revolve around high damage at the cost of HP? Also, I havent seen the spell Berserk in this game yet, so this could be a point they could put it in? I could see hate problems with this though, and also teams of berserkers owning everything in sight... But, they could tone it down a notch and round it out. We never know. ^^

Warrior.
Teams of berserkers? Rampageburn parties.
Berserk lowers def to increase attack, effectively sacrificing HP for damage :P
Berserk is in this game, warriors get it at level 15. It's not a spell thougho.O

the thing about a geomancer is that they can't control all the elements, which is why blm will be better. ie light, dark, thunder, and fire.

honestly.. I think necromancer will be a new job. If you read the info on the new mobs, You'll see that Lamia is a necromancer. All the beastmen jobs and character jobs are the same model premises. The only flaw in this is that lamia is technically a chimera, but in the first sentence of the info it says "beastmen". So logically, Necro is a strong posibility.
