****New Job: Scholar****

I'm digging the mortarboard.

As for the Odin hint, it struck me as more just a hint that if you're resting (which is also a kneeling pose) then the Zantetsuken will just whoosh right over you.

wonder if Scholar will get -na spells? 'cause then RDM's could have a new sub to replace /WHM. Especially if it also gets Sleepga, as that would mean it could somewhat replace /BLM as well. BLM would still be slightly better, but the ability to switch between -na's and sleepga at will, as well as storing converts pre-events, could potentially mean Scholar's the new all-around sub for mages.

Yeah, which makes me wonder if there's more mobs like that... such as AV, lol. I guess we'll have to wait and see, SE said their dev team would beat AV at the NA fan festival.

oh noes they brough harry potter to teh game ><;

Oh really??

That'll be interesting to see!!

I was thinking SCH/RDM would be pretty nifty.

Evil random thought of doom:

Scholars having Death Note quotes as macros XD

btw speaking on the subject of macro pallettes...

****ING AWESOME!!!! 'bout damn time! =D

I dunno what SCH would sub >.O seems like they get the same spells as RDM pretty much (maybe -na's and sleepga's? definitively the base WHM and BLM spells though), but can only use one set at a time. So I don't think /RDM would do much good except giving them Fast Cast. I'm guessing WHM, and have them main heal, as I doubt they'll be good nukers, unless they get some awesome offensive spells. In that case BLM might work, but depend on the situation.

This is pretty interesting, for what it implies:

With Scholar as a support job, using the Black Grimoire will boost those respective skills, perhaps allowing White Mages to net better results with Drain and Aspir, or land the oft-resisted Paralyze on an enemy

Looks like /SCH will give Drain/Aspir. Who knows what else? I suppose -na spells and perhaps Curaga would take too much from WHM, but a Red Mage can hope. ;)

I was thinking /rdm more so that they can switch between grimoires and do a bit of both. I want to play scholar so now it seems I have to level my mage jobs to 37 :(

If /SCH can give warp and escape, that'll be the new best subjob for WHM.

Also, Elmer reworded part of the Scholar description:

Scholar brings with it a number of abilities to help one skillfully manipulate magic. There are a set of abilities that can only be used with either the White or Black Grimoire. Similar to a Summoner's Blood Pacts, these abilities are tied to the same recast timer. However, a Scholar has the ability to store up uses of these abilities. For example, say you have an ability with a recast timer of 4 minutes. Normally you would activate it and then have to wait 4 minutes to use it once again. However, a Scholar is able to store up these recasts to a maximum of 3 consecutive activations.
So it seems it only stores the Scholar-unique abilities =/

Either way, since it sounds like Scholar will be getting Drain and Aspir, it doesn't sound that unbelievable that they would get -na's as well. Additionally, Scholar might be a good sub for BLM, as the reword also says

“White Grimoire” lets one specialize in White Magic by lowering cast times and reducing MP cost. In addition, Healing, Divine, and Enhancing skills are all raised, and unique abilities are unlocked. Conversely, Black Magic spells have their MP cost increased and casting time lengthened. However, you are free to switch back and forth at any time.
Which basically confirms that Black Grimoire raises white magic cast time and MP cost, but lowers Black Magic cast time and MP cost. So basically, they have access to both white and black magic all the time, but the corresponding grimoires makes them specialize in either one, and reduce cast time and MP cost of the ones they specialize in.

I'm gonna have to level scholar to 75 for manaburn's and dynamis. XD That'd be sweet, right?

I think what it comes down to is how the job works with MP, INT, and MND. I mean, it must have very very high mind and intelligence. In that case, I would think it'd be a great sub for rdm. I wouldn't rule the job as a main healer if it had bard-type MP. >.> Well, maybe in merit parties but early on I can't see it feasibly working out without silly MP+ gear unless it was good on MP. Plus, see if the book spells cost MP or not. who knows; either way. I'm obviously more excited about this then dancer. ^^

In Final Fantasy III, Red Mages get all White Magic and Black Magic spells up to level 4, while Scholars get all White Magic and Black Magic up to level 3, if that matters at all.

>.> What if you have a merit where you can change the weather for the entire party? How sweet would Sch/Whm be in manaburns? Especially if they get a refresh skill.
