New Job

A WAR/MNK is not a viable tanking option dipshit. Me saying its a pld without flash and cure IV tells you there's not enough hate keeping ability. Can it tank? Sure. But so could anything /war. A whm/war 'could' tank, but that doesn't mean its a viable option.

Using koenig reduces the war's main facet for hate, damage dealt. With the Two-handed rule, you're losing out on even more ACC+ATT with the negative effects of koenig. AND, using koenig has 0 enmity.

Why do you fucking argue when you are proved wrong over and over.

...

pull your thumb out of your ass, seriously. Youre about as dense and stubborn as people come.

And straighten out your panties, omg

Jamal is stating that yes, a WAR/MNK could tank. But much, much worse then a PLD/WAR, PLD/NIN, NIN/WAR, NIN/DRK, hell, NIN/ANYTHING, could.

You know why? Because Provoke hate wears off over-time. A WAR needs to tank with damage in order to even be able to keep hate good, since that's basically the only form of hate that you can keep above others that they can do. Sure, they could sub WHM, but then again, a PLD already have those spells.

Basically, WAR/NIN could tank with utsu better then a WAR/MNK can tank. And guess what? That allows them to deal more damage then WAR/MNK, while neglecting more damage taken then WAR/MNK.

And don't make me go further in to why a WAR/NIN can hold hate better then a WAR/MNK can. We'd go on for hours explaining the way hate works.

Speaking of tanks, here's a list of "tanks" we have, all of which would hold better hate then a WAR/MNK. In no particular order:

RDM/NIN
RDM/DRK
NIN/WAR
NIN/DRK
WAR/NIN
PLD/WAR
PLD/NIN
MNK/NIN
MNK/WAR
PLD/RDM
PLD/DRK
WAR/WHM

WAR/MNK is good till about... Garbage 1st visit I'd say.

And God damn, I HATE SAM.

I had one person tell me WAR can't keep hate off RNG and SAM - I had personally experienced both at low levels; not too sure how that will change with levels. RNG pre-2H post RNG slight fix update; SAM post 2H update.

WAR/MNK... 75... Tanking in Koenig... I smell something beginning with 'oxy' and ending in 'moron'.

Maybe they dont voke cuz they dont have the gear for it:biggrin:
Utsu is better than defense gear. :P
And you forgot drk/nin Uzor!

You didn't say where I was wrong with anything I said.

I showed where you were wrong with everything you said.

I'm not finding why I'm dense and stubborn...maybe I'll break it down further for you.

WAR has Provoke. Thus it is presumed a tanking position. There are two methods to tank, 1. Dmg reduction. 2. Damage negation. Both facets need some way of keeping hate on oneself. The two main tanking positions each focuses on one of the two ways.
NIN -- Uses Damage negation along with damage or an enmity set to further its way forward. On everything except Top-tier HNM, NIN is most succesful using Damage to tank.
PLD -- Uses Dmg reduction. Shield Mastery + A+ shield skill allow for huge damage reduction while taking hits. Coupled with damage reduction pieces, this is almost as good as complete damage negation. The PLD uses JA's coupled with Two High hate spells, Flash and Cure IV to keep the mob's focus.

WAR/MNK using Koenig. High defensive gear with High VIT and CHR. High defense alone is not a formula for success on any mob, it just means MP sponging. Two forseeable options:
1. Use a shield to get dmg reduction. WAR caps Shield skill at 210. This is WAY too weak to be used efficiently. /MNK will also give low levels of Guard skill, but again, these are so low that the proc rate would be incredibly rare.
2. Use a GA with the means of dealing enough damage to counteract the lack of dmg reduction. While using Koenig, each piece (-body) will give -5 STR and -5 dex. Before the body, this is -20STR, -20DEX which translates as well to -20ATT, -20ACC. Add to this -10STR and -10DEX from the body, and you have a grand total of -30STR/-30DEX/-30ATT/-30ACC in a full koenig setup.
You have 3 additional means of hate. Provoke, which generates spike hate once every 30 seconds. Boost, which gives a small spike hate, and warcry, which if fully merited (again stupid, but so is this combo with this gearset) still has a 4:10 recast.
WS's would be a whole different story, as the Hi VIT base from MNK sub would add to Steel Cyclone damage. And I know you can macro in ws gear for these Cyclones to add to the damage.
So, really, how is this a tank over an mp sponge? Both dmg negation and Dmg reduction are an impossibility as shown above.

Can a war/mnk be a tank? I suppose in a pinch. But to suggest that using koenig is a good idea by any means is a huge mistake. Let's go way back to my first disagreement:
Ruffyreborn said:
The reason 99% of the war's suck at tanking is because they dont gear for it

Dowzer said:
Warrior can Utsusemi: Ichi tank flawlessly with a BRD and RDM when Elegy and Slow are stacked.

Which then in turn further proves my point

Am I missing something here? Dowzer's statement doesn't prove your point. A Warrior uses haste gear primarily to reduce delay on attacks, which also reduces utsusemi timers. A WAR receives 0 benefit from +EVA gear, because the base EVA skill is incredibly low.

Any WAR can :ichi tank fine with what Dowzer stated, and having haste gear enhances it, which they are using anyway. How does that make 99% of WARs suck at tanking for not having the gear for it?

The question still stands. How does Dowzer's statement prove your point at all?

Edit in response to Uzor:

Well, I'm talking mainly in end-game situations. Almost anything /NIN can tank well in merit parties.

Although I do know this one DRK that pulled so much hate on the Arrapago slot NM while kiting it that not even the BLMes could get hate off of him, even while going all-out... Bastard were throwing out 200 drains and 400 drain II's, stacked with stuns, dread spikes when getting hit, and aspirs to keep his MP up...

And back on topic:

Hopefully in a few days we will find out more about this job and at least 1 new aspect of gameplay in FFXI. At first I was kinda iffy about this job but I hope it can be ok. It's kind of exciting and hopefully I will still be able to go to Fanfestival 2007.

war/sam works too.
I'd like to see a WAR/SAM tank something like Jailer of Love or Fafnir :p

For smaller events like merits and Salvage, yeah, it works. Hell, I've had a DRK tank Battleclad Chariot as DRK/SAM together with 2 MNK/NIN's. But once again, don't think it owuld work on larger events, hence why I didn't mention it.

Speaking of which, BRD/NIN used to be the best tank, before they downed the nmity gain on songs. Hell, I tried it out in Crawler's Nest once in an exp party. 1 Raptor Mazurka to start of, and the PLD couldn't get hate back even with invincible.

I had a JP party dual tank with SAM and DRG pre-update of either since no other tanks were on. Actually kind of worked, not best xp though. No deaths or serious slow downs.

you missed RDM/WAR for VT mobs!

DRG/BLU DRG/BLU DRG/BLU DRG/BLU MNK/WAR BRD/NIN

Its fun, you should try.

The outfits do look relatively similiar, and SE has generally used outfits of past FF jobs as outlines for the AF in FFXI

The movie was a series of little clips strung together. New information was a little sparse, but these scenes give you a lot to think about. Too bad they wouldn’t let us photograph or record the movie ourselves. Still, we’ll give you what information we can.

The stage is set during the Great Crystal War. The way the refer to it has changed

(Instead of クリスタル戦争 kurisutaru sensou with phonetic katakana, they are going with kanji 水晶大戦) suishou taisen)

but it is still about the war between the humans and the Shadow Lord’s Army. In Wings of the Goddess, adventurers will cross through time and become involved in the Great Crystal War. The players will discover some shocking truths as well. “The Advent of the Soldiers of God” is another keyword we saw, which may refer to the adventurers themselves, or perhaps to something else, I’m not sure.

As for new jobs, we were told in an interview in July that there would be 2 or more added. Watching the movie, I was suddenly greeted with the figure of a woman in a beautiful outfit of a “Dancer.” This is probably the first new job. A “Dancer” first appeared in Final Fantasy V, where they could absorb an enemy’s HP and MP. They could also unleash consecutive attacks with abilities such as “Sword Dance,” using the “Dance” command. In FFXI, it has the potential to become a good support job.

Story-wise, I had to take what I could from the clips on the screen, but it seems to really delve into the Crystal War in a profound way. It is around the time that you can meet Queen Leaute, the expanding D’Oraguille family, the hero Karaha-Baruha, the former Mithra Matriarch Perih Vashai, and a host of other famous NPCs. Players who have been in FFXI for a long time have a lot to look forward to. In addition, what appeared to be “Atomos,” was also shown in the movie. The Crystal War seems to have much more to it than what we think we know.

There were also some details on the expansion’s content. The Vana’diel of the past will have new maps and new monsters as well. They also reiterated there will be a large-scale battle system implemented too. It was brief, but I saw a snippet of a Besieged-like battle playing out inside a town.

This movie will be available on the main site, starting September 22nd. Still the sound quality will be low, and you won’t get the same intense feel of watching it unfold on the big screen. I highly recommend seeing it at the convention if you have the chance.

I can see the .dat mods for this job already:spiteful:

out with the old (/dance macros) in with the new dancers!
