I'm currently using a Athlon X2 4000 and overclocked it to 2.3GHz. It runs at about 32-35*C in normal programs and about 38-42 in games. Before I overclocked, the system didn't usually go above 37*C for any reason.

I've got a Phenom 9850 on the way right now. I just wanted to know what a good temp is.

If you're not hitting above 50, you're actually in a really good range. You might be able to push it a little harder. Just make sure you thoroughly test stability.

You're fine. Those are the same temps that the PC I built runs both during and outside of gaming.

thats the great thing about AMD. they can be overclocked alot and still keep cooler temps. the max temp for that particular chip is 55-70c. at 55 you would still be fine if you dont have your tower in a confined area where there is poor airflow. when it gets about 60, thats when i would worry. but like someone said previously, if your below 50, your golden.

If you hit 60 your gonna know it. One way to test is push it, hear the internal speaker screaming at you, and tone it down. BUT that can cause damage.

So, just be gentle with it.

I have an AMD Athlon 2500+ overclocked to mimic the Athlon 3200+. It stays between 52-54*c when not overclocked and between 57-59*c when overclocked. I've never had any problems out of it. Back when I first looked into overclockin' I read some heat charts from the manufacturer and the 2500+'s typical heat is around 53.7*c and max heat is around 68*c. I've never passed 59*c and I usually keep my PC overclocked so it stays steady at 57-59*c pretty much 24/7 with no issues. I do plan on gettin' a new fan though, the stock one should almost be at its limits. I'm sure if it was back when I first bought it, it'd probably be runnin' a lot cooler.
