Hi. I just got a PS3 for my birthday last week, and was looking at what games to pick up. I know of a few I definitely want to get, but what am i missing? Some I may have overlooked, but what about the hidden gems out there?

*Edit*
I've edited this list into a broader List of Great PS3 games. Will continue to add more to this list. Also, feel free to indicate if a game is really only worth a rental, <cough> Haze <cough>.

On the list:
Single Player(or Leaderboard MP)
  • Metal gear Solid 4
  • Batman Arkham Asylum
  • Wolfenstein(good rental)
  • Killzone 2
  • Uncharted 1 & 2
  • Infamous
  • Folklore
  • Valkyria Chronicles
  • Ratchet & Clank: Future
  • Ghostbusters
  • Fallout 3 (Better on 360 tho. More DLC)

Multiplayer:
  • Resistance 1 & 2Resistance 1 & 2
  • Little Big Planet
  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
  • Socom (3?)
  • Burnout Paradise: Ultimate Pack(D/L)
  • Resident Evil 5
  • Demon Soul
  • Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
  • Warhawk

PSN Games
  • Fat Princess
  • Grip Shift
  • PixelJunk *(Anything, I hear it's all good)

Ratchet and Clank, every game from that series is pure gold. Ghostbusters is also a great game.

Unless you're interested in multiplayer, I'd rent most of those games; especially MGS4.

Infamous
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Valkyria Chronicles

I just got these with my ps3 last week and love all 3 of them.

Valkyria Chronicles and Folklore are the only reason I keep my PS3, so I suggest those. Not only are they fabulous games, but they are also only 20-30 bucks.

I'd also mention Disgaea 3.

Not to mention some good PSN titles...

Gripshift, Pixeljunk Monsters, Pixeljunk Eden, Comet Crashers

I'd say the best disc games are...

MGS4, Uncharted, Valkyria Chronicles, Killzone 2, Infamous, Resistance 1/2(Resistance 1 has better SP, Resistance 2 has awesome co-op multiplayer), Littlebigplanet... and Fallout 3. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is good too...

You can probably get Heavenly Sword pretty cheap right now too. Oh yea Assassin's Creed was great, couldn't put it down.

If there's 6 you MUST get it's...

Littlebigplanet
Valkyria Chronicles
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Fallout 3
MGS4
Killzone 2

MGS4 is my favorite out of those though. By far the best game this gen in my opinion.

There's also Tales of Vesperia whenever it comes out on PS3.

Awesome guys, There are defintely some good ones there I had forgotten about and others I didn't really know about.
Thanks for the heads-up on the PSN games too, and the advice for rentals. I'll buy any games that are co-op, but i'll definitely look at renting most SP games.

I loved COD4 for multiplayer on 360, any really great online titles exclusive for PS3?

Click to expand...

This Autumn (Fall) in Japan, still no word on a US/EU release but that's probably due to a contract or something, who knows. In any case you can still import as PS3 is region free.

As for exclusives that are have great online, let's see...

Littlebigplanet;
Demon's Souls;
White Knight Chronicles (When it's out);
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2;
Warhawk (It's a very fun games, but you really should consider getting this as a downloaded game from the playstation store as well as all the dlc);
MAG (When it's out, 256 players online);
Modnation Racers (When it's out);
SOCOM (If your into squad based third person shooters, also a downloadable title)
Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box (Download this one is my suggestion)

Ninja Edit! OH! Musn't forget about Uncharted 2: Among Thieves! You must buy this one O_o

Now, I also suggest to you to keep an eye on your HDD space, if you start getting low, you don't always need to delete games of your HDD, you can backup your data and put a new HDD into your PS3. I had a 40GB Hard drive in mine originally, but I upgraded it to 500GB. Best of all, Sony encourages this.

Also, Renick, welcome to the Playstation Network =D

When you have your account set up, drop a line on this thread and I'll add you to the list as well as any games you have.

I'll be getting a PS3 myself very soon and found this topic on whats good out there quite informative, any really good 2 player gams online I shold look out for good chance I'll be gaming with one fellow PS3 owner alot. :)

I heard the latest RE game can be played co-op too a dream come true for this zombie fighter.

Batman Arkham Asylum, InFamous, and Valkyria Chronicles are great games.
I was surprised with InFamous too, it's an awesome game.
Most of the games mentioned here have demos on PSN if you can get on it and try them out.

I think I've worn out the Valkyria Chronicles demo. XD

Is Valkyria Chronicles that good?
I'm saving money for Dissidia FF, The Killers concert ticket, AC/DC concert ticket and LittleBigPlanet: Year of the Game Edition.

Don't forget Resident Evil 5 baybay!

ps - Fat Princess looks fun, like Ele said.

The co-op mode in Resistance 2 is priceless..

Oh yeah there's Warhawk too. Online only. 4 player splitscreen.

It's terrific and you should be able to get it fairly cheap used at this point.

It's an amazing game if you like battlefield type games.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys.
I changed the OP a bit, it's nice to have a list of games that other gamers recommend. I'd like to keep this updated as more games come out and releases are announced.
And keep the recommendations rolling. I;ve been reading as much as I can of the individual threads, and it's a gold mine out there. I'll be updating the list as I go.

wait Dissidia is coming to PS3? O.o
