New sub option for Blm and Brd

Yeah, I'm with Rones. A BRD's duty involves backup healing. There has only been one time I haven't used a Mage sub, and that was when I was pulling in a somewhat weird PT setup where there was a lot of MP going around and my 200+ MP wasn't needed at all. NIN sub actually saved probably the amount of MP it would take to heal me up after pulling lol But that was situational. PLD sub would be just that, situational. Sometimes that auto-refresh would be nicer than having erase. Situational. You make the call.

I'm more interested at the thought of blm/pld than brd/pld.

Infact, I think brd/pld would fit nicely into my nin,drk/thf, drg/war, whm, blm/rdm, brd(me) static. But /whm hasn't really let me down often in my static. Nor do I have pld leveled at all...yet.

Blm/pld though really caught my eye. It seems like a nice alternative for certain xp locations. I'm not extermely picky on what mages sub as long as it's one of the several popular subjob choices. One occasional combination I see though is blm/smn which I like in ways yet it kind of annoys me. While I find it nice a blm can have more mp/hour overall as a /smn, they lack the ability to pitch in for backup healing. However, /whm obviously cuts down on mp/hr obtained and therefore damage dealt.

blm/pld seems to me like a cross between blm/whm and blm/smn to me. I don't wish to type in detail examples of when such and such sub will be potienally very good. But I definitely wouldn't overlook /pld after hearing the idea for whm, blm, brd, or rdm. I consider myself open minded and would like to try brd/pld someday. I'd probably try blm/pld but blm is the most boring job ever for me. I surely wouldn't avoid inviting someone for wanting to sub /pld at the apprioate level though; it seems very interesting and potienally better.

If i'm using 500 mp, I'm allowing longer chains before the healer's mp runs out or splitting the load best I can so we never have downtime from the healer running out of mp. It additionally allows the mage to do other things with their mp like more hastes. 4 melees, 1 brd, 1 healer parties make it hard for the healer to haste more than 2 people. However, with my curing they might be able to haste 3.

Sitting around with full mp waiting for an emergency is an excuse commonly used by brds to be lazy during exp. "Healing isn't my job" or "I'm saving it for an emergency" are the two most common lines from brds who are too lazy to make full use of their mp. When I describe the brd job, I consider it 1/3 buffing, 1/3 curing, and 1/3 pulling. When pulling isn't an option its 1/2 buffing, 1/2 curing.

We're talking about 2 different situations and you mix them up to pick on bards that save MP for what I call "emergency" instead of adressing the points:

- situation #1: HNM. You NEED that emergency MP, believe me. I know you don't do HNMs much or at all (besides Kirin but that's not an HNM to me) so you might want to trust me on this.

- situation #2: EXP. Imho, again, there is only maybe one case post-70 (decos in sky in a MP-thin PT, with only one healer-haster besides the BRD) for which I think you're actually right, PLD sub sounds nice. The rest of it you need Erase and -na given by WHM sub. (BTW the RDM in a BRD+RDM combo can haste all 4 melees if he's good and willing). Please find another situation where it's as clear-cut that PLD brings something important, I might have overlooked one. As for using your MP pool for EXP situations, OF COURSE you should, it would be silly not to. But I would still keep a little bit on hand for an emergency-type healing if I can without hurting the exp. It's not like regular PTs hit chain6+ regularly before 75 anyway and the regular PT with a bard should have no problem whatsoever to hit chain5 and start another chain fast without the BRD dumping all his MP all the time... I don't think it's an excuse by bad bards for being lazy to not use MP if they don't *have* to, because I would do it and I'm both not lazy and imho I'm a rather good bard. So it's all a matter of experience and taste.

Consider it a new tool in your bag of tricks. When worrying about nerfs, you shouldn't treat possible boosts with disdain and arrogance.

BLM don't have to worry about nerfs apparently, only THF and NIN got to be lucky this time ;) Also, I don't think anyone is considering your ideas with disdain, it's worth talking about it, thinking about it (and that's what we do), but in the end, if the BLMs feel naked (and dead) without blink/stoneskin/phalanx (it really depends on their nuking style), they won't change. If the BLM never gets hate (his nuking style), then I agree, it might be worth considering it somehow... Then again if he doesn't get hate, he doesn't use all his MP, and far from that.

Don't feel too bad that the whole planet doesn't agree with you, it would be arrogant to think they have to ;)
