I think what you trade the Lucky Mouse has to be worth a certain price to an NPC or something because rare/ex stuff wouldn't get me a present, a single stack of crystals wouldn't work, but 2 stacks got me a present.

I traded distilled water and got all 3 snowmen and 2 presents pretty quickly.
