Hello all. Felt like taking a break from schoolwork, and I haven't written any fiction lately so I thought this would be a good opportunity. I've never roleplayed before, but I was glancing through the "Character Intro" or whatever thread, and saw that people had posted "background" stories. I think I'll give this a try, let me know what you think.^^
A lone figure stood atop a rocky ledge, the vast ocean spread before him. Far below, the waves crashed upon the rocks, as if Nature herself were beating out a rhythm. His light brown hair whipped about his face, the sea breeze washing over him. His slender frame, silhoutted again the evening sun, was worn and traveled. He was neither young nor old, a timeless figure who wore naught but a homely brown tunic. But underneath his limp hat, a pair of eyes blazed so bright that if he had wished, the sun would have been scorched.
Turning his gaze from the retreating sun, the man strode over to a gnarled oak, retrieving a sachel and a wooden staff. Slinging the satchel over his shoulder, and taking the staff in hand, he set out upon the road. It wasn't long before he reached the borders of Jugner Forest. The hour had grown late, and the moon hung amongst the stars, a mere sliver torn in the velvet folds of the night sky. Who knew what dangers lurked amongst the shadowed trees? With barely a pause, the man continued on his path, into the darkness.
As his footsteps led him deeper and deeper into the forest, the trees closed in around him. The shadows danced and moved, fluttering amongst the trees as butterflies. It grew silent, the sounds of life devoured in the dark. Suddenly the man stopped, and glanced around at his ghostly surroundings. A bloodchilling shriek cut through the night air, echoing through the trees. As quick as lightning, the man took a jump to his right. A dagger whizzed by his ear, and buried itself in a tree by his head. Reaching his hand to his ear, the man felt a warmth on his fingertips, and a dull pain.
A voice leaked eerily from the gloom, "Give up all hope," it cried," for your doom is at hand." A thin smile crept upon the traveler's lips, and a reedy laugh escaped from his throat. The voice again issued a challenge," You dare mock me? Enjoy your laugh my friend, for it shall be the last thing you do in this world." The man replied in a mellow, somewhat amused tone. "My doom? How intriguing." "That it is. You have sealed you fate, fool. Prepare to die." The man muttered beneath his breath, "I am prepared everytime I see the sun rise."
With a high pitched yell, a shadowed figure lept from the trees, hurtling towards the man. The moon glinted off the blades off two daggers. The man lowered his head, and held the staff before him. A spidery language slid from his mouth, and the staff began to glow. The assailant pounced towards the silent victim, twin daggers aimed for the kill. In an instant the forest lit up with a brilliant flash and a resounding bang! A surge of power ripped through the trees like a hurricane, blowing more mightily than the strongest gale! And, as quickly as it had happened, the forest fell silent once more.
The man sighed heavily, and lowered his staff. Two daggers lay at his feet, while the owner lay some distance away, slumped down with his back against a tree. Walking over to the crumpled figure, the man knelt down beside him. Quivering, with blood trickling down his face, the would-be murderer raised his head. Captivated by a pair of eyes unlike any he had encountered, the deafeated only managed a single phrase. "Who are you?" Rearing up, the man said, "I am Sanoske."
