NFL Busts/Sleepers

Why would you use those two bums to talk about late draft steals? You want two REAL late draft steals?

Tom Brady and Joe Montana.

Name some of your busts (Players that shoulda been great, but slipped) and sleepers (Those who shouldntve been much but were great) of the past couple drafts, and those you predict to be busts/sleepers from this years draft.

See Bolded section.

If I ignore the parameters set, you can throw out Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, and Tim Couch as some of the biggest busts ever. Also it's easy to name the obvious answers, gotta give some love to the lesser known steals.

As far as Colston

2006 NOR 70 catches 1038 yds 14.8 avg 86 long
2007 NOR 98 catches 1202 yds 12.3 avg 45 long

For his first two years, if those are bum numbers, what's average, good and great numbers seeing that's already top 10 in the entire league as is.

Brady Quinn, who is he again? Son of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman?

He hasnt even gotten a chance lol.

He was bad in Notre Dame what makes you think Quinn will be any different than his college career?

Seriously, Notre Dame's success with him didn't stem from them bein' a great team or him bein' a great QB.

Those are great individual numbers in a team game. I'm sure they'll know who to thank and who to blame considering he was 2 games shy of a full season last year and four games the prior year. I mean, when they fall short they'll know that the super talented injury prone receiver helped them get almost to the players.

If he can stay healthy, I'll accept him. But compared to Brady and Montana, he's a bum. Compared to most WRs in the league right now, he is individually very good. I should also point out that he was the #1 receiver on my fantasy team last year too :spiteful:

Wait wait, Colston has more catches then any WR ever in his first two years. He was the 252nd overall pick and you call you him a BUM??

You keep mentioning Brady, but for his position, Colston is doing a lot. Brady didnt break any records when he first started, which was behind Bledsoe at first. Colston is going into his 3rd year with those stats, and he's missed games.

Also you mentioned two QB's. Thats a whole different ball game. Why compare him to QB's who have the ball every play? Unfair if you ask me. Compare him to other WR's. In his postion, he's one of the best. Also ,if you have a good QB, then WR's are overrated anyway.

If he was bad he wouldntve been a first rounder, hes looked good in preseason games but again, he hasnt had a chance. Its totally unfair to deem him a bust when he hasnt played. Just because you didnt have a stellar College career doesnt mean you cant succeed in the NFL.

Look at frank gore? he was hobbled by injuries and didnt do much in college, but hes done well.

Well the OP said the past couple of drafts, last I checked Montana and Brady weren't in the 2006 or 2007 drafts.

And you're discounting Colston's numbers as individual in a team game, but you're placing blame on an individual for his Team not making the playoffs?????

And also how does a person who missed two games have a catch in all 16?

He may not show up every game, but anyone drafted in the seventh round that is top 10 in catches, yards and TDs is a steal. Teams would be happy with those numbers from their 1st round WR selection.

Exactly man.

Also I think he made some mistakes. Colston missed 2 games his first year, and no games last year. So in two years, he's missed 2 games. Thats pretty good for that position.

Take Colston away from the Saints, then we have David Patten, Robert Meachem, and Devery Henderson starting... Patten is old and can't play every play. Meachem is unproven, and Henderson is only good to come in every few series and catch a bomb since he drops anything under 20 yds lol. I don't trust that without Colston.

Also I want to add. He's not injury prone lol. True he might take more knicks then some WR's, but Colston is big and never goes down without a fight, so he takes some nasty licks. Colston has the same impact on his team as most no.1 WR's have on theirs.

Marques Colston was fantasy football gold a few years back when he had TE/WR eligibility. Pretty sure he's lost that now, but hes definitely not a bad late 1st WR, or early 2nd. Even though I hate the seahawks, and Hasselbeck is a chronic under-achiever, I'd take a fly on Nate Burleson as a sleeper pick. Without Shaun Alexander stinkin it up, they're gonna be airing it out a lot this season.. and besides Branch it's not like they've got many options.

Not really a sleeper but I'm looking forward to seeing what Shockey can do with a gunslinger for a QB.

Busts for the last couple of years? Charles Rodgers, Chris Perry, Rashaun Woods, JP Losman, Cedric Benson, Troy Williamson, Reggie Bush, Ted Ginn (not as much a bust as a TREMENDOUS reach for where he was picked), Mike Williams, and Kevin Jones

Potential late round gems (round 6&7): Josh Harris, Chris Myers, Jonathan Goddard, Derek Anderson, Antoine Bethea, Marques Colston, and Prescott Burgess

LOTS of players are bums next to Brady and Montana. We are talking sleepers here and your standards are WAY too high. If you can get a halfway decent starter out of the late rounds, you got a steal.

Roddy White? You mean 83 Catches for 1,200 Yards Roddy White (2007 and 8th best in the league?)? Or is there some other Roddy White?

Also, Mike Williams out of USC, huge bust.

Bush might have been a bust if you think he should have been the greatest athlete out of college since Sanders.

Stats wise, yes his career average isnt over 3.7yds a carry, but if you watched every Saints game like I do, you'd know he opens up the offense for our other play makers. He makes a huge impact on the game.

Also, He has over 2000+ total yds and over 150+ receptions since he was drafted in 06. He doesn't have bust numbers. He as numbers that don't add up to the unrealistic expectations the media put on him.

BAH! You are right. And Mike Williams! How could I forget Mike Williams?!?! (probably because I wanted too.....) I will adjust.

I'm sorry, but Bush is a bust. He is not BAD, it just you expect more out of that draft position. I knew he was a reach back in the day. Perhaps he fits more under the Ginn catagory...

I think id lean more to Bush being on the Ginn category but not completely. Hes still untested, he hasnt been bad, but he hasnt been phenomenal. I wouldnt call him a bust because its not like hes done nothing for his team. Anyone remember their record before Bush got there?

Why dont one of you guys join the Fantasy league! We need just one more!!

ALL the skill positions changed that year, and it was Duece that carried the load at RB on that team.
