NIN Alternatives?

This player isn't even on our server, nor on the Slyph server as stated in profile. So ... no need to avoid.

Actually I am, but sadly not on this name. The name is reused when I was Ellah on Quetzalcoatl. These days I go as Nushif on Sylph.

Feel free to blist me for not taking every last persons claims over the internet seriously and making sure I actually get decent intel. I don't think I want to party with you, either.

So, that being said, for those who are still here:

The enfeebling Ninjutsu thingies, do those stack with the spells?
As in, if I'm in a party with a RDM and he uses blind, then I use my blind tool, does that stack? I'd think not, but hey, I'm by no means a nin pro.

Secondly, those gear choices, while uh ... uber ... do you really *need* some of those things? I know that most jobs can still do their thing if they use armour at more reasonable prices, an example being for instance rings. On BLM there seems to be very little reason to swap out the Eremite rings for an item that gives the same int+, but +2 to some element and costs 20k instead of 2k.

I know it's *ideal* to have everything +1 and ubar, but in all honesty I'm not too worried as long as I can maintain a good hit rate, good damage and don't have to go through tools at an exorbitant rate. Call me a gimp all you want, but at level 10 you don't *need* +1 Agi at the price of 100k gil. And at later levels, when you do, better choices open themselves up. (Good earrings in particular, an armour slot I've never quite looked at, as I was pretty focused on +Int on my mage.)

Show me where you pay 100k for +1 agi at level 10 and I'll show you a rip off.... don't exaggerate so blatantly.

I said it before, and I'll say it again. It's one thing to be elitist. Mediocre players claim to hate elitist all they want, but we all know when they want something done right, they'll get one.

For melee, most of them, yes. However, most of them can be easily farmed (depending on your definition of 'easily'), camped or BCNM'd (although it will take you a crap load of seals/time for PCC. you'll definitely want it if you're going higher. Not a requirement for a beginner in my opinion, but it's something you'll use for a long time. Your choice.)

You say you want a good hit rate, good damage and all that, but you're not getting it if you're wearing everyday stuff. And you should expect to go through tools if necessary, it's part of the job. Please tell me you use food, or is that too much for you to afford as well?

EDIT: Nin enfeebs don't stack. My only gripe with the job. At the same time, it means less for me to do when we have a competent nin.

I wouldn't blist you, but if I invite you to a party and you don't do what I expect you to do or invited you for, I'll give out advice. If you don't listen after that, either you shape up or one of us is going to have to go.

Looking at Trippyhippy's List Of Exaggerated Costs:

PCC is an awesome investment for a *second* 75, or if your first 75 is a melee and you're taking the time to pimp it out. For a first 75, which is a melee, I wouldn't worry about it. The 1.8 mil (or whatever) price tag is way out of the league of a player who's just started. And while the item is indeed made of awesome, you *will* be just fine without it. Just put it on the agenda for the long term.

Leaping Boots and Ochiudo's Kote and Emperor Hairpin, same argument can be made except a. they're cheaper, b. you can fairly easily (crappy drop rate aside) camp rare/ex equivalents for free (you can technically do that too with the PCC, but the NM's spawn time is horrible), c. they're only useful to certain jobs. So for a new player, I still wouldn't recommend *buying* them - but it might not be unreasonable to put in the effort to try camping them if you want to go the extra mile. Again, if you don't, put them on the list of things to worry about when fleshing out your gear with shiniez at higher levels, or when levelling a second job after getting your first 75.

Salvage gear and Rajas Ring are of course lol and non-options for a first 75. :P

Most everything else on the list isn't terribly unreasonable (though skip Shade +1). And most everything else *not* on the list isn't terribly pricy either. What really *is* important, though:

- Have a fully levelled appropriate sub. NIN/WAR yes, NIN/THF no, NIN/underlevelledWAR no. NIN/RNG maaaaaaaybe for 20-29 but you'll generally be expected to tank, so gogo /WAR.

- Have all your important spells for main and (although irrelevant in NIN's case) sub. In most cases this just plain translates into "all your spells, period", but I don't think you'd really suffer for skipping the level 15 elemental ninjutsu. (On the other hand, it's also cheap.)

- Have up to date gear with reasonable stats for your job, excluding luxury gear (as I noted above). If levelling a second job or something, as I said before, luxury gear is a somewhat better idea (it often *is* rather nice for its level), but when you're just starting a character and have more pressing concerns, obviously the luxuries are not a priority. They're called luxuries for a reason.

- Have appropriate consumables. Suitable food, Silent Oils, Prism Powders (or Shinobi-Tabi for Tonko, in your case), Echo Drops if you cast anything, Shihei if you're NIN or /NIN, debuffing ninja tools for NIN main (assuming there isn't someone else in the party who will handle the respective debuff), ranged ammo for jobs that shoot it such as RNG and COR and good THFs... etc.

I should have just said you effectively double your delay for another shitty weapon, when you could sub something that would make you more beneficial to the whole party like /drg or /rng.
Or, you could offhand a weapon with stats on it like +attack, +accuracy, +dex; if you're doing it to offhand an actually shitty weapon you're an idiot. A weapon with additional stats on it isn't a shitty weapon.
