Changes to Utsusemi and Ranged Attacks

The next version update will make battle more strategic for players who use Utsusemi or ranged attacks.

*Changes to the ninjutsu "Utsusemi"
In the next update, the player's enmity will decrease when a shadow image created by Utsusemi is absorbed by an attack.

*Changes to Ranged Attacks
Soon, the distance of the monster from the player will determine the damage and accuracy of ranged attacks. This determination will vary from weapon to weapon, as will the ideal distance for maximum damage. In addition, the higher the monster's level is with regard to the player, the less damage will be dealt with a ranged attack. This system is similar to that of melee attacks, but the difference in damage will not be as great.

A score of new material and exciting new improvements awaits in the next version update in mid-July, so keep checking this site for details as the time approaches!

This pisses me off to no end. I was considering NIN to be my next job as well. God damn it SE.

Now, that theres a flame thread on it, I can show my true feelings.

I loathe Ninja as a Tank.

The job was not meant to be one, and because of that, it requires another person to pick up its slack in the hate-holding area. What does this mean? Simply put, slower kills in a Party. A lot of end game EXP PTs are built based on speed killing. The faster you kill, the more chains you rack up.

Don't feed me that BS about Ninjas not causing downtime, either. It may be that way in the midlevel range, but in the end, monsters aren't lasting all that long enough to do any kind of damage to anyone, a solid bard or RDM will keep a Paladins MP virtually filled to the brim in these days. While Paladins have their faults, and aren't infinite enmity generating machines either, they fair better than a Ninja does, just because of whats at their disposal.

The original design of Ninja, as is appearent by the rest of their abilities outside of Utsusemi spamming like a trained monkey, was to be a debuffer. Hojo is so much more potent than Slow ever is, and they have their elemental debuffs. In my opinion, it's about time Square has done something about the job falling out of its original design.

This is the most idiotic thing SE has ever done in loads of shitty, idiotic gimps that they've implemented. Now we can spend the same shit loads of money to be just as crappy as shitty as any other DD. Thanks to every single one of you fucks who complained about them being overpowered. You're lucky I don't fuck your mothers right in front of you.

Rng isn't being gimped...Your dmg diff on high lvl mobs still won't be as bad as melees. You could complain if it made it so your dmg went to shit on high lvl mobs like melee does. The distance thing sounds kinda kool and once you figure it out you shouldn't have dmg problems.

Nin on the other hand...poor nins  This might be good at lower lvls(help them recast Ichi) but after Ni it seems quite useless.

Boy, that sure sucks for nin. But while the changes for rng make ranger alittle harder, the changes to nin will really help rng/nin out, and last i checked that was pretty much all of them. For a non tank with nin subbed this is actually great news, and will really improve the way xp parties work. :)

I don't see RNG getting gimped at all from this, more of being better balanced. The distance thing is an interesting addition, I'm just curious if damage will be higher the closer or the further from the mob you are, I'd guess closer to the mob.

As for you doing less damage to a mob of a higher level, that just makes perfect sense. Now, you're damage will actually be effected by the mob's level like every other DD in the game, so forgive me if I don't care about how you'll do a little less damage since it'll make you more like the other DD. You'll still be the best DD, but now you'll be a little more balanced. I'm tired of seeing RNG's just spaming shots and sidewinder, just because they get off on seeing big numbers, and this might help with that.

/shrug

Just like so many other nerfs that were supposedly going to kill blink tanking, this one will come and go and absolutely nothing is going to change.

Amuse yourselves until the patch actually comes, lamenting the death of the ninja tank, or praising it, whatever. But at the end of the day, when the dust has settled... we'll still be there.

No more debating about this:

BLM>RNG

So...Blm nerf anyone?

Only strengthens the bond between NIN and THF.

I doubt the change will affect things that much...And enmity gear for NIN has always been a good thing anyway.

I said this in another thread on this subject, but if this nerf makes NIN tanks useless and PLDs the only viable tank, wont that make it 100x's harder to form a party? I mean now, we have a choice if we cant find a PLD. Now we are practicly being forced to only use one tank if we want to make any XP. Great, now its harder to form a decent party.

Lets just hope that its not as bad as everyone thinks it is.

And for RNG's this sucks cause they are dropping a ton of gil into this job anyway, why make them drop more so they can learn their job at lvl 60+?

Seriously, I doubt the Nin nerf will be THAT bad. It will probably actually help those who are /Nin and don't want hate anyway. As far as the Rng "nerf", I could care less either way. I just find it funny how half of people used to complain about balancing stuff out, and now the other half is complaining about it being done....

Count me in as some kind of RNG "nerf" (if you can call it that) being a not-so-bad thing. Leveling RNG to 30 I've had pulls where my first arrow hit was strong enough to keep hate on me - after a Provoke from the PLD. I've basically tanked the entire Jungle and it's sort of a pain in the ass. Might have some God/HNM fight issues, but I'd imagine this isn't some major reduction, and might even increase their damage if they find a sweet spot distance.

As for the Utsusemi issue, it spells the end of BAD NINs. Ones that only use Utsusemi to hold hate. Get buyin' those quivers of Hojo, Kurayami, Jubaku, and elemental tools, folks.

hehe.. atleast soloing as a RDM/NIN will still kick ass :D unless someone is trying to steal for some fucked up reason >.>

Totally agree with you on that one.

you say this balances things out? how so? now i do relatively the same damage as other melee i jsut pay a hell of alot more to do it. its a rather idiotic thing. So it was expected that SE would do it

It said the dmg change won't be as drastic as it is for melees. So I doubt you will be doing that much less dmg, especially once people start figuring out what the best distance and all that crap is, it shouldn't affect it that much >.>

It really will not get rid of shitty NIN tanks...it will just mean more deaths for the party probably...i have seen just as many shitty PLD as NIN. there is no real way to find out until you invite them to party.
And as for RNG "nerf" it will probably be long range = more dmg for bows and close range = more dmg for guns and Xbows...
