NIN tanking in K Osode

Sorry for Off topic, but is SH really only useful for those few levels? I remember back when I used to play SH was used up til 75 or so. Then again my NIN knowledge is little to non and I haven't played in a while.

You can use it for higher levels, but after 60 you're not going to evade very often, even with a full evasion build. It's just better to stack on +haste as you can get it and beef up your damage dealing to hold hate.

um..
While leveling my ninja I evaded/parried quite a bit on anything I was exping on that was VT-Low IT. In some of my parties, I could honestly get up and go get a cup of coffee mid fight. I would just slow/blind/paralyze and after that I could literally tank with Ichi.. even with DD gear on. I chose to use byrnie+1 at the time and stacked my ACC elsewhere for DD set up, so I had no negative evasion. Plus I had full evasion merits and my parrying was capped, so I guess that helped.

As for Haubergeon vs Osode for DD

Haubergeon
5 Str 5 Dex
12.5 att
12.5 acc

Osode
10 Str 10 Dex
5 att
5 acc

STR needs attack to back it up or its worthless. Unfortunately, Attack is something ninjas lack alot of. Any 1H weapons generally need ATT over STR. ACC is another factor, as if you miss alot, all the STR and even ATT doesnt add up for missed hits. Thats why Haubergeon or Shura Togi wins for Ninja DD, especially at 75 when the osode becomes available.

Osode is a much more roundabout piece, and helps in many other departments, giving a little benefit to each area.. but as a ninja, you are better off enhancing your DD capacity(ACC and ATT) in almost any party situation.

Don't mean to take this off topic but what is K. Osode good for now a days?

Still good for Chi Blast. Good for Charm and Reward, if you don't need to cure any enfeebles on the pet(AF/Relic instead) to boost HP a bit more. Great for Dancer sub, since Waltzes cure based on the users CHR, and the targets VIT(Self target means both, duh.)

wow dude where are you pulling 5 acc from 10 dex from?? um last I read TWO HANDERS = 3 str = 2 att 3 dex = 2 acc... Not 1 handers,

wth how did i double post? >.< sorry.

Where are you getting 2-handed weapons, we're talking about ninjas.

thats my point! 1 hand weaps dont = 2 dex = 1 acc,

Yes, they do. 2 handed weapons are the ones with the modified formula; but 1-handed weapons are still using the 2 dex = 1 acc formula.

that makes.. no sense since they meant to BEEF up 2 handers by giving them a better mod.

Given the numbers you listed, it does make sense.

1 handed weapons: 2 dex = 1 accuracy, so 1 dex = 0.5 accuracy

2 handed weapons: 3 dex = 2 accuracy, so 1 dex = 0.67 accuracy

Looks like they have a better formula to me.

yeah im dumb and not thinking straight. sorry guys! I just did math >.< it hurt a little.

lol!

But on topic, i can't remember the time i got my Osode out of my locker for Ninja really... I was lucky and got a Hauby +1, and i gotta say it's given me better results, and if i'm tanking anything /drk, it's Arhat's +1, hands down.

I'm actually considering selling my osode altogether, i really only keep it for bst and brd, and really i hardly use it as bst anymore (AF2 and Haub+1), and Ares will do the job for when i get war that high... So really i don't see a point anymore. I do enjoy it for brd, +mp helps, but that's as far as it goes.

Anyways, what i just tried to say up above (4am!)is that personally, i stopped using Osode on nin (especially to tank, be it HNM or exp pt's) about 2 years ago.

I'd say Haub, Relic Body and DBody are all better for TPing in, and Haub for WSing in. If the NIN's getting hit enough for the VIT to be that much of a factor, then someone's doing something very wrong.

*edit* Not to mention that if getting hit is somehow a large issue, Arhat's Gi would be better anyhow.

I agree completely. I would only use Osode to TP in.

Seeing as how Jin has a 30% modifier on Str and Dex, i'd agree that Osode is a good alternative for swapping in at WS's, but due to lack of att on that piece, a Haub could prove to be a tad better and more consistent. Plus accuracy is nothing to look over.

I used to TP a lot with Osode, and ended up figuring out that Haub outperformed Osode many times, and ended up sticking with that.

What I'd like to know that given the chance, would you rather have a Byrnie +1 or a Hauby +1. With the Byrnie you get about 27.5 ATT but -1.5ACC but with the Hauby you get 13ATT and 13ACC.

So if given the chance which would you rather have? the Byrnie and the big ATT boost? Or the Hauby and the well roundedness?

Hauby as the hauby can bring you closer, acc wise, for a meat build versus a byrnie.
