Since i have currently started playing the nin class i have been listening to some heated discussion on what a nin true purpose is. I have to come to find that alot of players are boycotting the nin/war combo saying " that nin was not made to tank". People saying that nin/thf, or nin/rng is much better. While not throwing down these combos.. i think nin/war is by far the best combo for exp. parties. I dont see what nin/thf,rng,etc.. offers to the party other than second rate dmg compared to drk, rng, blm, thf. I mean if you had a five members in a group, the tank either being a nin/war or pld/war.. would you acutally pick a nin/??? for dmg. I mean face it, a well equipped nin blink tank is where the class shines. I'd like you input on this.. maybe enlighten me on a better combo other than war/nin:)

I would like to agreewith you on this. Just a couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of being invited toa JP party going for some XP. I was a little put aside at first when I saw the PT config: BLM, BLM, RDM, DRK(me), NIN, and a THF. I didn't really care, because they way I looked at it was they must know something I don't. And indeed they did! I have not gained so much XP in a single sitting since I have started playing this game. And our Tank.......was a NIN. I don't exactly know what his sub was, probably a WAR, but I tell you he was not there for damage. He spammed Utsutsemi: NI, and I tell you, thorughout the entire time, I think he may have gotten hit just a couple times. He was friggin awesome!

I hands down, would take a competent NIN like this guys, over a lot of "tanks" out there, be it WAR or PLD. Don't get me wrong, there are PLD's that know how to do their jobs exceptionally well, but NIN is just as good in my book.

Two nins and a WAR in a pt rocks. Trust me. I did it in Qufim and was amazed by how little damage was done.

My static is Nin (me), another Nin, whm, smn, samurai, and we pick up a random sixth and it rocks. We have been able to take on some mobs that a paladin would never survive thru. Also, there have been those "pop" situations. When that happens, one of us ninjas just engages the pop and solo's it till the first one is dead. Very handy when in a jam.

Dont get me wrong, there are certain instances where a Pld tank is preferable, but for most of the area's out there to level in, a Ninja tank seems to be just as good, if not better then a pld.... depending on pt setup of course. Just my opinion.

One area where Pld own Ninja hands down is miltiple mob event fights. BC fights, Rank fights etc. Ninja can tank very good 1 mob, but lets face it. Ninja defense is horrible. Pld pwn Ninja in these.

Actually a Nin/Rng or something can be a very competent damage dealer. Only problem is youll probably never see one as the cost to spam shurikens is ridiculously high. While loading up on the +atk gear will help, they will never compare to Drk, Rng, etc with just melee alone.

I think the main reason you see people 'boycotting' the blink tanks is (in my own opinion, gathered from a few people's statements in game, so your mileage may vary) that people are very interested in the Ninja job but not at all interested in being a blink tank. Some due to the cost of spamming Utsusemi (which is a copout reason in my opinion), and some because they don't want to level warrior to sub to ninja just to level ninja to sub to something else ( a reason that has some merit behind it).

Ninjas rock! The only downfall I can see is that our poor little whm gets so bored from having nobody to heal hehe.

Oh yeah i forgot that nin/rng can be a damage dealer... but shruikens are rare to find.. and the 40+ go for around 30k+ a stack so good luck affording that one. Thanks for the positive input guys

Shurikens are not rare to find, I bought mine from Tenshodo. But yes, as a ninjas level progresses, the cost for the shurikens gets to be extremely expenisve. And really, the only viable way to justify using a shuriken is to have throwing capped, which most do not.

Yeah, I sub NIN for my THF, so when I level it, I use NIN/WAR (I really don't mind lvling something as a sub for a sub; you only have to get it to 17 anyway, max :P). Blink tanking is fun, especially when you have more than one in the PT. Awhile back, I got an invite to a PT while I wasn't seeking, and since I had just logged on and wasn't doing anything, I accepted (this was with my THF30/NIN15). I was a replacement, I think, as the rest of the PT was already full. I was in Kazham, and they were in Yuhtunga Jungle. They informed me that they were camping near the entrance to Sea Serpent Grotto, so I grabbed a chocobo and rode out to meet them. Along the way, I was listening to them talk, and I found out that I was the 4th person in the PT with a NIN sub. We had 4 people using Utsusemi. And lemme tell you, that PT rocked. We had a WAR/NIN (a Taru, and a great tank nonetheless :P), two RNG/NINs (one was rank 10 and was crafting his own holy bolts), me (THF/NIN), a SMN/WHM, and a BRD/WHM. We had literally no downtime, and we were constantly pulling. The only break in the fighting was between pulls. The only time we weren't chaining was when we had to wait for more mobs to spawn. The group didn't last long, but it was fun nonetheless, and I came within about 1300 experience of level 31 (I came into the group only about 200 experience into lvl 30) before we had to disband.

To summarize: Utsusemi rocks!!
