I have decided to level ninja, and I'd like to be prepared as possible so that I don't have to take time off to get X piece of gear.

I'd like to have the best everything at least up untill lvl 60ish. I believe this is within my means, as I already have 1 job lvl 75 and can farm/camp NMs with that.

To anyone that has already leveled it, what equipment did you find was hard to get on your way up? Anything you wish you had gotten and didn't? Suggestions for gear changes by lvl? What food did you use?

I will spare no expense and plan on camping a few pain in the ass NMs already. Any input would be helpful.

While I'm by no means an expert on Ninja, I'd have to say that in my experience (ie: to level 30) the only thing that was difficult to aquire (due to prices) was ninja tools. They really put a hurting on the pocket sometimes.

Other than that I'd probably say Emp's pin, for earlier levels, until you get some better headgear later on. The rest is easily found on the AH.

Major items on the way would probably be..

Ochiudo's Kote -34
Fuma Sune-ate -39
Emperor Hairpin (not so difficult to get) -24
Snipersx2 -40
Jujitsu Gi -40
There's a few others later on in levels but thats an overview of the more expensive low level items.
It's probably best to just use normal DD food according to your lvl unless you have problems holding hate, where Dorado Sushi would be useful.

one big money saver would be to quest all of your nin spells that you can. all ninjisu that you get save the elemental spells from 9-30 can be quested. and the quests are very easy. and try to get Ni via BCNM-40.

to do all those quests you will need norg fame though. yag necklacs in windy or zinc ores in bstok are the way to go with upping that.

In my personal experience:

levels 1-10:

Basic subligar, harness and any level 1 stat up gear you may have. (Moogle belt?) Use Kunai until you reach level 7 then buy 2 Wakisashi. Even though you can't use two yet, this will save time for when you do level.

At level 8 I got the Kepogi (sp?), tekko, hachimaki, etc.

10-17 (I think it was 17)

I used the level 8 gear until I got to 17 when I could use Bone armor +1. Got the full bone set +1 and 2 mokuto. (Additional effect: Silence).

18-27

You can get beetle gear if you want. I just skipped it. I then got a pair of Mercenaries Sitbaki (Eva+1) and an evasion headband (eva+3). I got two silver earrings+1 (eva+2 each) and two Ganko (katana). I also splurged and got two reflex rings. (DEX+2 i believe.). For by body, I got a Federation Gi (+3 Eva) and for my hands I was still using my bone mitts +1. (eva+1)

ADDITIONAL ITEMS:

I recommend camping for Haty, a Konschtat Highlands NM. It drops a Rogesturin: a very handy throwing weapon that gives +1 AGI.

Always keep toolbags of Shihei handy. You never know how many you will go through with a given party.

while you could always go the really expensive route, it wont help that much.. i went the cheap route.. emp pin, leaping boots, basic body armor.. i had no issues keeping hate without Okote of Fuma (personally i think fuma is a bad choice anyhow, only lowers your utsusemi recast by 1-2 seconds, whereas leaping boots will make your evasion trigger more).. as most any melee player will tell you.. use 1 ring slot for accuracy, and use the 2nd ring slot for a stat ring.. this holds true for ninja (being as they hold hate, usually, with melee) so i went 1x sniper 1x agi ring.. i dont think jujitsu gi helps AT ALL to be honest lol.. at lv50 i got my subligar from phom- aquaducts.. has +hate on it so it helps..

food - ive mainly always used squid sushi.. but now that im 70+ im using more sole sushi..

ninja tools - always try to blind slow and paralyze your enemy.. make sure chat filters are set so you can see when your enfeebles stick.. i like to enfeeble instead of letting the rdm do it because then i KNOW they stick and i KNOW when they wear off..

elemental ninjutsu - personally i used the elemental wheel lv40-58'ish and i held hate just perfectly fine against a galka monk with pimped out gear (we static'd).. i didnt ever try holding hate with melee till 58'ish.. only go the elemental wheel route if you understand how it works.. lol..

basically there is an expensive way and a really expensive way.. i held hate better than most ninjas who went the really expensive way.. i didnt/dont/wont ever get Okote for ninja.. nor ninjutsu gi.. of fuma sune-ate.. but maybe thats because i went the elemental wheel route?

If you are starting from level 1, there really isn't much difference between Ninja & other jobs between 1-10. Honestly, the first 10 levels go by in no time at all.. I got corsair from 1-7 in an hour. The only thing to remember is antidotes become very important, since too many low level mobs use poison, and you dont have much HP yet. I actually leveled as NIN/BRD at that time just because the HP spell was just enough to counter the poison; since then, I've had the same result with a couple stacks of Selbinan Milk (which stack, something the Au Liats dont do). And ninja get a decient /ra skill too, so worms are very squishy for you.

One NM I discovered (I'm probably the last one...but...) that I killed just cause it was kinda fun, is Chocoboleech. It drops a rare/ex katana that is fairly nice for the level, a Gassan. You just need Fresh Blood from the sheep on the mountain in Southern Gustaburg. Its a magic using slug too.

Once you start partying, you will probably find Dorado Sushi, Cache-nez, and the Dash Sash useful, since ninja doesn't get any other enmity gear until very later.

There's another thread about ninja stuff too that taught me a lot (mostly that.. I cant afford to go beyond 40 yet.. lol).

EDIT: Found it! http://www.qcdn.org/showthread.php?t=27216

Send me a /tell in game if you see me.

Stack on ATT and Str gear where you can. But no so much to where you cannot hit the monster. As nibble said 1 Acc ring at all times. I used 1 Acc ring and 1 mermaid ring, and had the emnity earrings. Used Fuma's and I reccomend using H kote until Lv. 60 or so where you're damage > then -5 evasion. Use sole sushi unless you can't keep hate, then use Dorado <as stated earlier>. I honestly never used a sniper ring for my ninja just because I didn't like the -10 defense stat on it. I used a Venrer ring. I never had any problems with accuracy. I would reccomend getting a Nikkariaoe to put in your off hand to help you with your casting.

I would reccoment getting Fuma's as well. Someone stated earlier they were useless, but that 1-2 seconds off of Uts can be the difference in you eating a huge TP attack and dieing or your shadows eating it. Stack any Haste gear possible. Get a swift belt :D

Hardest piece of gear to get will probably be swift belt, which requires some NM killing in Sacrarium. GL with that.

just a warning speedbelt is level 55

I should have mentioned where I was starting from.

I am lvl 24.

Couple of cheap katanas, Empress, Spkie Necklace, Mythril earring +1 x2, Beetle Harness +1, Kingdom gloves, Reflex Ring +1 x2, Nomads Mantle, Warriors Belt +1, Beetle Subligar +1, Bounding Boots

I have a body piece and legs that are lvl 25, I forget ehat they are at the moment. All nnjutsu through 30. Stacks of every kind of tools, lots of Shehi. I also bought those lvl 26 Katanas that have additional effect Poison.

I've heard from many people that the Jujitsu Gi has a hidden effect. Noone can tell me what it is though, and I can't seem to find anything about it. Anyone know?

I didn't read the rest of the thread..

But get Leaping/bounding boots. I leveled NIN to 24 without them and when I finally got to 24 and put on my boots it made a world of difference. Ofcourse I also put on my emp pin then but, the +3 DEX and AGI would of made a world of difference in those early levels. Since your a BLM I know you have some EVA already capped, as a WHM I capped EVA to level 46 on NIN I think it is, so AGI will get you parry skill ups like mad.

Ok I'm going to read the rest of the threads now and edit later.

After reading... I would suggest getting a Gassan. That is by far the best main hand Katana until level 28 when you can equip the Fukato<sp?> then I did dual Fukato until relic Katana, this is where I am at an inpass though because there are 2 ways you can go after relic and with just spending 500k on nin tools I can only afford one set of Katana for the next upgrade. 'Shaunessy is currently 42 NIN' Current gear

Zushio-main hand
Anju-off hand
Emp pin-head
Juji Gi-Body
Nomad-back
Spirit-Neck
Fed Tekko/custom gloves-hand/depending on mob
War belt +1/Swordbelt +1"when I hit 43"-waist
Drone/dodge/beetle +1-ears/depending on mob
Sniper/the +1 of the 36 AGI ring-fingers
Republic subligar/Kingdom Trousers-legs/depending on mob
Orphic Egg"if BRD in party/some other ranged weapon if not-ranged slot
Winged Boots +1-feet

I like that setup and WAR doing Warcry and hitting every party member with it and a BLM that just casts and casts and casts pull hate from me. The rest of the time I think I do pretty well.

forgot one thing.....I have the Dash Sash macroed into my provokes.
