Fresh from POL Viewer:

Chains of Promathia, the second FINAL FANTASY XI expansion pack, is almost here!

The following version update changes are scheduled to coincide with the commencement of services for Chains of Promathia. A great percentage of these new quests, missions, items, and other updates are related to the contents of the expansion pack.

- A new storyline will begin with the addition of Chains of Promathia to the mission menu.

- Many new areas related to the Chians of Promathia expansion pack will be opened to players. In a similar fashion to battlefields, level restrictions will be imposed in several of these areas.

- Four entirely new regions, as well as new areas in existing regions, will be added. It will be possible to perform searches within these new regions and areas.

- Many new monsters will appear in the newly added areas. For further details, please read the Chains of Promathia page found in the Compendium.

- New pieces of equipment that manifest special abilities depending on their use will be introduced.

- New escort quests will be added. It will now be possible to cancel escort quests after they have been accepted.

- Skillchain elements and magic burst effects will be added to avatar blood pact abilities. Also, the accuracy and damage of low-level blood pact abilities will be increased.

- It will be possible to check a pet's TP using the command <pettp>

- The MP cost for the white magic spell Dia II will be reduced.

- The MP cost for the black magic spells Bio and Bio II will be reduced. The effect of these spells will now be dependent on the Dark magic skill.

- The skillchain element for the dagger weapon skill Evisceration will be changed.

- The recast time for the paladin job ability Cover will be decreased from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.

- The level required for paladins to learn Raise will be reduced from 75 to 50.

- The area effect of Etude bard songs will become restricted to a single target.

- The casting time for the bard song Goddess's Hymnus will be decreased.

- The dragoon weapon skill Wheeling Thrust will be enhanced.

- Several throwing weapons will become usable by dragoons.

- The effect of the ninjutsu Utsusemi will be completely removed by area attacks.

- The range of parameters adjustable by the Merit Point system partially introduced in the previous version update will be expanded. An exclusive menu for adjusting the settings of this system will be available only when inside one's Mog House.

- Several system-related adjustments will be made to Ballista.

- A new activity called "clamming" will becoming available on the beaches of a certain area.

- Several key items have been added to the list of items available by trading guild points. These key items will make it possible to perform special type of synthesis.

- Players who have reached the craftsman level in a particular synthesis skill will be able to revoke their title, making it possible to raise another skill to this level without penalties.

- It will become possible to log into PlayOnline and go directly to the FINAL FANTASY XI main page by inserting the Chains of Promathia expansion pack disc (PlayStation 2 version), or by double-clicking the FINAL FANTASY XO shortcut (Windows version). Also, a new text command will make it possible to completely log out of FINAL FANTASY XI and PlayOnline, and exit the PlayOnline Viewer. This command will shut off the power (PlayStation 2 version), or return you to the desktop (Windows version).

Many other updates are in the final stages of testing. Further details will be announced along with the introduction of the Chains of Promathiha version update. A preliminary version update is scheduled to take place in the beginning of September, before the release of the Chains of Promathia content.

Dates for Maintenance will be announced as soon as they are decided. The preliminary version update will not contain changes that immediately affect gameplay.

In order to activate the contents of the Chains of Promathia expansion pack, it is necessary to complete the Expanded Services registration process from FINAL FANTASY XI's Content ID page using the registration code that comes with the North American expansion pack of the European All-in-One pack. Registering the expansion pack contents does not incur any additional FINAL FANTASY XI user fees.

This version update is timed to coincide with the official release of the Windows version in European territories, and the commencement of worldwide service for Japan, North America, and Europe.

It is predicted that the eight-hour time zone difference between these three areas, the influx of new players will not substantially affect the maximum number of players online simultaneously in each world.

An unexplored world awaits you in Chains of Promathia. We hope you meet new friends and enjoy the adventure, as you uncover the secret history of Vana'diel.

Best regards,

The FINAL FANTASY XI Team

Well, if they Nerf blink tanking, maybe i might play one some time.
People seem to forget all the nice enfeebles Ninja's have ... but hey, nin's HAVE to spend 500 GIL EVERY FIGHT, because that's how SE wanted it, right ?

Ya, I dont see this as such a bad thing. It will let ninjas do other things that so many people have forgotten about, but will make PLD all the more desirable.

-Ham

NOW they decide to give PLD Raise at 50!!!! /shakes his head.. oh well better late then never hehehe. I wish they gave PLD's Shell IV as well

I'm happy about Etudes becoming single target songs for Bard. I have give my mages or whoever the song that is best suited to them and not have to worry about crazy positioning^^

There may be something else to this, lowering raise1 to 50 so they can give you raise 2 at 75

~Ga spells ALREADY removed Utsusemi entirely.

Now, physical AE that Utsusemi used to absorb will remove it entirely also.'

THIS DOES NOT RUIN NIN TANKING.

Area Effect eats all of your active shadows at once. Period.
Now quickly, hit your Utsusemi: NI macro.

Keits, I am sure you have already noticed that we would welcome Nin-Tanking being nerfed. Why are you replying to this in this specific Manner ? Do you WISH to discourage us ? Do you WISH that we not try Nin ? Do you have to bring "Curent Situations" into every SPECULATIVE THOUGHT ?
Or do you have the Feeling that you have to Correct EVERYTHING that is being said ? Right now we are working under Assumptions. the Field is open to any Speculations. No Matter what impression you get.

I think Keits realizes, as I do, that the only thing a nin does well is tank. It doesn't cost much to be a nin tank either. It's costs a tad bit more than it does to be a RNG if you want to be a good blink tank. I realize that's too much gil for some people, but if you want to be a damage dealer, a NIN needs shiruken, which will be a LOT more expensive than just blink tanking and throwing 1 or 2 shiruken every other fight.

There's also the problem of getting your hands on enough shiruken to last a full night. It won't be so hard until you get to Juji shiruken though. At 17k per stack and at least 3-4 stacks per night, it's not going to be anywhere near cheap. If you were expecting your katanas to magically make you a DD, then I guess we'll be seing you sitting in Jeuno LFP for a very long time. ^^

Oh, and I think it has more to do with refuting the subject of this thread. This will NOT ruin blink tanking. It'll just make it tougher to blink tank anything with AE skills.

As any NIN knows, AOE attack already went THROUGH blink. Utsusemi has never absorbed a gobbibomb. Now it just removes remainng shadows. Not gonna ruin blink tanking by any means but maybe, just maybe, taking a little bit of the ninja's endgame away. Which is good imo, since nin has too much going for in in the endgame.

Read the sig. I love nin, and i want to take it to 75, but also, i think nin (and by some extention /nin) is TOO powerful in the endgame. WTF a 75 MNK/NIN can tank Bune (wyvern in gustav tunnel, think guivre but rougher) but it will eat a 75 pld in god-gear. I have seen this with my own 2 eyes. That makes no sense.

Also paves the way for a possible utsusemi: san which i hope never to see. Since :Ni is already too damn powerful.

I don't think it "ruins" Nin, but of the changes they've made to jobs, it looks like they decided to ease up on the other jobs they've changed, but toughen up a little on Nin.

As a low-level Nin, I'm used to partying with players who don't understand blink-tanking and have to explain it to them -- and I also explain problems of AOE attacks and would encourage the party to consider what types of mobs we pull based on what this will do to the Nin's ability to protect the party from damage.

Even mobs that can use AOE attacks, like Gobi Bombs, don't always use them. When they do use them it's usually just once in the fight -- a rare gob will do it twice.

I just wish Nin wasn't as expensive as it is. I'm still under level 20, and easily chewing through 5000g each time I join an XP party. I understand there's a trade off that we use "tools" instead of MP, but I wish it wasn't as expensive as it is. Dedication to Nin is what *forced* me to seek better ways to earn gil and try to get a little more serious about leveling some crafts.

As many pointed out, AOE spells already nullfy Utsusemi shadows. The update will just make physical AE attack act the same.

If SE does this, I wonder if it will have the same effect as aoe spells does on Utsusemi shadows. Will the damage from AE physical attack be absorb by all the shadows? Just like AOE spells damage are absorb by all the shadows, while the ninja doesn't take damage.

If so, wouldn't it mean that SE is reinforcing Ninja's role as a tank?

Just a thought. In the end, Ninja tanking is here to stay. Even with this so-called nerf.

Quick ellah, yell at everyone else who decided to inform you that this wont hurt NIN tanks much, if at all.

I realize that's too much gil for some people, but if you want to be a damage dealer, a NIN needs shiruken, which will be a LOT more expensive than just blink tanking and throwing 1 or 2 shiruken every other fight

I think that alot of the people who are against blink tanking really just want a job where all they gotta do is hit autoattack and then watch some TV.

??? what the hell just happened here?

To beat an already long dead and mutilated horse: This just makes blink tanking more desirable i think.

Poor horse....never saw it coming.....

Anyone else wanna throw in the same thing that's been said 7+ times already?
